Rockstar Games will be making another push next week to get Manhunt 2 (Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation Portable, and Nintendo Wii) onto store shelves in the UK. According to MCV, the publisher will be taking its case to the Video Appeals Committee on November 26.
The meeting between Rockstar and the Video Appeals Committee will take place in London’s The De Vere Hotel, where Rockstar will appeal against the British Board of Film Classification’s (BBFC) decision to ban Manhunt 2 in the UK. This was reportedly confirmed by the BBFC.
The publisher will be appealing to get the revised version of Manhunt 2 - which is the same as the one currently being sold in the U.S. - onto UK store shelves. The game starts off as the player in the jail cell try to scape with a prison friend of “Daniel Lamb” you can pass this mission very easily due to it being just another training level. If you choose to follow the rules you have to hide in shadows and wait until each prisoner is distracted and move one by one you can skip this waste of time of the part of the training level by running you’ll see small cut scenes every time a prisoner sees you either pissing on you or screaming etc… (But their pretty funny). When you ass the prisoner you pick up a needle just do as the rest of the mission tells you and you’ll be fine. The rest of the game plays just like the first mission, but as you know the executions are fuzzied out with white color burns (unless you UMDGenedit it as a ISO). Bueno, Manhunt 2 es la segunda entrega de ésta saga, a cargo de la polémica desarrolladora Rockstar (la que nos trajo grandes obras maestras como Grand theft auto).
El juego, al igual que su predecesor, tiene una temática extremadamente violenta, lo que causó su prohibición en varios paises europeos, al igual que su censura por le ESRB (organismo encargado de poner "rating" a los videojuegos, como E for all, M for mature etc) para su venta en territorio norteamericano y nipón. El juego iba a ser lanzado originalmente en septiempre del presente año, pero debido al alto grado de violencia, tuvo que ser censurado, lo cual causó una gran controversia, pues la compañia alegaba que no es posible que la industria cinematográfica tenga total libertad, (refiriendose a recientes producciones como SAW y Hostal) y en la industria de los videojuegos sucedan cosas como ésta.

But the unedited version wasn’t really scrapped in oblivion like what the authorities expected. I love almost all of the Rockstar Games. They are definately for adults with all of the violence and language (with a few exceptions). Manhunt was probably the most violent game that they put out. The basic story was that a convicted felon was released from prison and was being filmed for a “reality show”. If he escaped, he would walk free. If not, he was dead. The story was similar to The Running Man, but it’s an old story that has been told several times in different ways (The Most Dangerous Game Short Story was one of my favorites as a kid).
Anyway, they are releasing a version of Manhunt 2 for the Wii. This is surprising because the Wii, in my opinion, is targeted towards kids. There are some “horror” titles in it (played one of the Resident Evil games at a friend’s house). But if Manhunt 2 is like Manhunt 1, which I’m sure it is and then some, it will be pretty hardcore on the Wii.

Manhunt 2, saddled with an Adults Only ESRB rating in June, announced today that an edited version has received an M (17+). Aunque tengamos que subir al Kilimanjaro o comprar un título nobiliario en Redonda, en Akihabara Blues no nos vamos a quedar sin nuestra copia de Manhunt 2. Y lo decimos muy en serio. Nos parece totalmente retrógrado lo que está pasando en torno a un producto que está destinado al público adulto y no a los niñatos maleducados a los que el Gobierno quiere alejar del juego de Rockstar.
Por eso hemos decidido llevar un recuento de todos los que quieran pagar con la misma moneda a los Inquisidores de Sony, Nintendo, EEUU, Irlanda e Italia y apoyar hasta el final a este juego, buscando la forma, tienda online o mecanismo para hacernos con una copia retail del título sin pasar por la mula. Porque queremos que Rockstar haga Manhunt 3 y sea el triple de violento.
Porque si tenemos más de 18 años, debemos pagar impuestos y votar a nuestros representantes, exigimos la libertad para utilizar un producto mucho menos ofensivo que el 90% de la basura que aparece en Televisión, Cine, Radi
Take Two ha suspendido temporalmente los planes de distribución de Manhunt 2 tras la censura del polémico juego en Reino Unido e Irlanda y la negación de Sony y Nintendo a que Manhunt 2 formara parte de su catálogo en EEUU, tras ser etiquetado como juego “Solo para adultos”.
Una posible solución podría pasar por modificar el juego rebajando su nivel de violencia y volver a pedir una calificación por edades al ESRB, según puede leerse en GamesIndustry. Manhunt 2, destinado al público aficionado al género del horror, es un claro ejemplo del doble rasero con que se miden los productos de entretenimiento, siendo los videojuegos los que salen contínuamente en el ojo del huracán mientras multitud de películas y series muestran altísimos niveles de violencia sin apenas voces críticas al respecto.
