Port Elizabeth - Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Mayor Nondumiso Maphazi has condemned the incident in which municipal workers' houses were torched apparently because they had not participated in the strike over the municipality's recruitment policies.
Ms Maphazi who visited the houses in Zwide and Motherwell on Thursday described the incidents as barbaric.
"Just the ruins of these homes paint a picture of a total and criminal disregard for the property and lives of others," said Mayor Maphazi.

I just found this article interesting. It was published in the Pretoria News, the main newspaper of the executive capitol of South Africa. It’s entitled, “Moves to modify Madiba magic ‘myth’” by Melanie Peters. (BTW: Madiba is an honorary elder statesman title associated with Mandela.)

Madonna and David continued their tour of Malawi this week by visiting a day care center in Masekese.She seems to be enjoying herself but evidently her whole trip isn't going exactly as planned.She had been planning to meet with Nelson Mandela but he refused her invitation and she's said to be "devastated." After seeing her here that's obviously a bit of an exaggeration. Her rep denies the whole thing saying Madonna "never planned to meet him.She'd be honored, I'm sure. But she's focusing on Malawi. South Africa is Oprah's territory." We're sure Madonna is just happy enough helping out where she can.
