This treatment is said to able to heal the sinus problem and almost never to re-occur again. Can anyone explain this? Malay kingdom of Srivijaya Palembang 3
The maritime influence. Special circumstances affecting Shrivijaya-Palembang toward the end of the 7th century are consistent with this conclusion. In the centuries before the Chinese undertook long voyages overseas, they relied on foreign shipping for their imports, and foreign merchants, trading with China, required a safe base in Indonesia before sailing on to China. This seaborne trade, regarded in China as "tributary" trade with the "emperors' barbarian vassals," had developed during the 5th and 6th centuries but languished in the second half of the 6th century as a result of the civil war in China that preceded the rise of the Sui and T'ang dynasties. Chinese records for the first half of the 7th century mention

Buddhism in Palembang. Shrivijaya-Palembang's importance has been established by Arab and Chinese historical sources spanning a long period of time. Its own records, in the form of Old Malay inscriptions, are limited almost entirely to the second half of the 7th century (682-686). The inscriptions reveal that the ruler was served by a hierarchy of officials and that he possessed wealth. The period when the inscriptions were written was an agitated one. Battles are mentioned, and the ruler had to reckon with disaffection and intrigues at his capital. Indeed, the main theme of the inscriptions is a curse on those who broke a loyalty oath administered by drinking holy water. The penalty for disloyalty was death, but those

      Malay kingdom of Srivijaya Palembang
The kingdom of Shrivijaya is first mentioned in the writings of the Chinese Buddhist pilgrim I-ching, who visited it in 671 after a voyage of less than 20 days from Canton. He was on the first stage of his journey to the great teaching centre of Nalanda in northeastern India. The ruler of Shrivijaya assisted I-ching on his journey. Archaeological surveys undertaken since the late 1970s immediately to the west of Palembang city--an area now being overtaken by suburban development--have revealed such a quantity of materials as to make it practically certain that this was Shrivijaya's heartland in the 7th and subsequent three centuries. Surface remains of more than a thousand shards of Chinese ceramics, two-thirds of which

      Differing concepts of “Malay”-ness
26 October 2007 (Jakarta Post) - I mentioned in the previous post about the Negara Kertagama about how Malaysia and Indonesia are embroiled in a dispute over the a traditional song, and I just wanted to highlight this editorial in the Jakarta Post which might shed light on our non-Southeast Asian readers who might not be familiar with the politics of the region. The term “Malay” does not mean the same thing in Malaysia and Indonesia! This difference in the definition of Malay, while essentially a political one, has profound consequences in exploring the archaeology of the different Malay peoples in the region. I hope this editorial might add a little nuanced understanding in how current politics affects archaeology. Malaysia, Indonesia out of tune Ong Hock Chuan Neighboring and serumpun (from the same root) countries Malaysia and Indonesia have been out of step with each other lately over the traditional song Rasa Sayang. Look for one particular ad with that ‘Video Gadis Melayu’ headline. Yes, that’s the one.I have no way of confirming this but it does look as if the ad is advertised by YouTube Dot Com. Yeah, that well known video sharing & hosting website that most Malaysians are well familiar with. Now, take a closer look at the advertisement one more time. Tell me what you see written in the text just below the headline. I’m sure that you would see that it is written with “semua video melayu , tangkap curi video gadis melayu, perempua

Friday Special – Malaysian Malay Muslims and their obligation towards performing their daily prayers!
Well well well… Today is Friday and it is time for me dish out my Friday Special weekly segment again. :-)All right, let’s talk about ‘solat’ or prayer today. Every Muslims knew that ‘solat’ or prayer is the Second Pillar of Islam but how obligated are we in performing them in daily basis? Be honest with yourself, how obligated are you?“Ignorant Malaysian Malays (Melayu) hate to miss a single minute of any reality TV shows such as Akademi Fantasia (fully packed with Sins!) but yet they have the tendency to purposely miss their obligatory daily prayers for no apparent reasons!”“Ignorant Malaysian Malays would do their best to be on time to meet their beloved sweethearts on dates (simply Sinful!) but yet they have the tendency to delay their obligatory daily prayers to their very last minutes!”“Ignorant Malaysian Malays hate to miss their buses, Putra LRT and KTM commuter trains in their morning rush hours. Malaysian Malay women… Be careful of China-made Toys!
Fellow readers, if you have been keeping tabs with the news lately, you would know that Mattel Inc has recalled some of their China-made products worldwide. The worldwide recall is due to the discovery that their contract manufacturer in China was found using a non-approved paint pigment containing lead which violates numerous applicable consumer standards. The truth is Mattel Inc is not the first toy company to recall China-made toys from the market. This year alone, many other toy companies have done the same! You can check this from the internet. The number is staggering! The whole recall mess is not entirely caused by paint pigments, some were caused by fire hazardous plastics and fabrics used on China-made toys. You know, this whole thing disturbs me a little bit. Have you all wondered about those cheap China-made toys that we have in our Malaysian market today? How safe are they for our children? I have a few friends in the US and UK and they told me that such cheap China-made toy

Malaysian Malay teenagers… Do we really understand them?
Yes, that’s right… Let’s talk about our Malaysian Malay (Melayu) teenagers today, the infamous brats of Malaysia. They have driven everybody nuts; parents especially! They have done everything! They have done every sort of wrongdoings that they can think of; we have seen and heard all about them in the newspapers and in our national TV channels. Yeah, you’re right… They are the living epitome of that ‘Malaysia Boleh’ (Malaysia Can) spirit all right. The government realized that our young Malaysians especially Malaysian Malay teenagers are getting wilder and wilder, controlling and disciplining them is becoming harder and harder. They hit the panic button last few years and introduced ‘Khidmat Negara’ (National Service), a compulsory national service program for all Malaysian teenagers. Frankly, I don’t think a short 3 months of training and isolation would do much good for our Malaysian teenagers. The government is only wasting the public’s fund on that silly progr

Malaysian Malay women, what is your stand on pornography?
Do you want to know why I’m asking this today? All right, have anyone noticed something really funny about our Malaysian Malay women’s (wanita Melayu) community? When was the last time you saw or heard them complaining or protesting about pornography?Probably never, right? As for me, I knew of two particular events where a few Malaysian Malay women and some from other Malaysian ethnic groups got together and took their protests to our Malaysian streets in the late 90s. Both were initiated by political parties and the best thing is that all of them are Malaysian opposition parties! Both events happened years ago. What I find odd is that nobody seems to be concern about pornography nowadays. Do they realize that pornography especially online pornography has reached epidemic proportions here in Malaysia today? Are we all blind or something?I just could not fathom the level of ignorance that our Malaysian Malay women have on this matter. Do you ladies realize that all of the victims of M
