NEW YORK (AP) — Madonna's harrowing new documentary on Malawi is clearly designed to draw attention to the poverty-stricken nation's plight and help to its people. But the superstar doesn't think much about enlisting aid from the U.S. government."I don't know what our government does period, instead of getting us in more debt and blowing up countries," she told the audience at the Tribeca Film Festival after premiering the film "I am Because We Are" on Thursday night. The packed audience included close friend Rosie O'Donnell and Natalie Portman.Madonna produced and narrated the film on Malawi after she traveled there, where she met the toddler David Banda, whom she took home and is in the process of adopting. The film shows the abject poverty that children face, how the AIDS crisis is cla

At least, that is, according to delusional Kabbalah fanatic Madonna. Like many other online casinos, Slotland.com is exhibiting at the Casino Affiliates Conference in Amsterdam this week. But Slotland isn’t like any other online casino. Like their competitors, representatives from Slotland will be discussing online and mobile business opportunities with affiliates. But unlike the others, Slotland will also be using the event to raise further funds for the school it has built in Malawi and to acknowledge the support affiliates have given to the project.Over the last two years, Slotland has donated nearly $100,000 to build a school and community center in a remote village in Malawi, one of the poorest nations on earth. Earlier this year, the company donated a fundraising website () where players and affiliates can make personal contributions.“One of our a
Madonna is joining forces with luxury goods-maker Gucci to raise funds for orphans in Malawi, the impoverished southern African nation where she has been trying to adopt a child since last year.Madonna states, "I am grateful that Gucci is joining forces with me to bring attention to a country with millions of children in desperate need of our help," Madonna said in a statement."Raising Malawi has already done tremendous work in helping these children. But we have much more to do and this event will surely bring us closer to our goal."
"From the moment I began my work on behalf of Malawi’s ONE MILLION orphans, people have asked, “Why did you choose Malawi?” I always answer, “I didn’t. Malawi chose me.” Malawi is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Unfortunately, it is also one of the poorest - suffering from famine, drought, extreme poverty, and deadly diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. All of which could be treated with proper health care and education, if it were available. Through the Raising Malawi: Orphan Care Initiative, Michel Berg and I have committed to doing all that we can to help this small country in desperate need.We have met with world experts in healthcare, economics, education, and international development - leaders like Dr. Jeffrey Sachs and Dr. Paul Farmer, who have given a voice to the most underprivileged sectors of society. Together we are working to raise the quality of life for a generation of orphaned and vulnerable children. Now I’m asking y
Chief Inspector Andy Walker has recently returned to England from Malawi, where he spent some time with the country's police service, battling crocodiles, cattle rustlers, and witches:
He said: "Witchcraft is becoming a significant problem in Malawi, with the particular focus on the young, who are manipulated by older persons.
"They are placed 'under a spell' and encouraged to commit criminal acts – normally assault, but, on occasions, even murder.
"Children tell of 'being taken away' during the night and being instructed by the witch doctors. Unless a witch doctor confesses, then a charge of 'conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace' is libelled, and this change has proved successful so far."
On occasions, villagers will take matters into their own hands and administer summary justice. However, this is being discouraged and police are now regularly informed of people practising 'the craft'.
Some children are inducted into witchcraft from an early age – as yo

A government funds crunch is delaying a home visit to pop star Madonna and her husband, which is part of the procedure to allow them to adopt a one-year-old boy from Malawi, a welfare officer said Saturday."There are no adequate financial resources for the inspection, but as soon as the government has money, we will do it," Penston Kilembe, director of Malawi's Ministry of Women and Child Development, told AFP.Kilembe has been mandated by the country's high court to carry out the inspection.Malawi is being run on piecemeal funds as a national budget is yet to be debated and passed following a rift between the minority government of President Bingu wa Mutharika and the country's powerful opposition.Under an 18-month interim order granted to Madonna to adopt the Malawian toddler David Banda, the pop star should be visited at her home twice, Kilembe said.He said the first inspection was due last month, and the last one should be done in April.Kilembe said he was the only officer able t
Catholics are continuing to spread their evil in Africa, this time in Malawi:
A Catholic organisation has commended a government drive to boost voluntary counseling and testing for HIV/AIDS, but questioned the promotion of condom use.
Reports say about 14 percent of Malawi's 12 million people are HIV-positive, making AIDS one of the biggest challenges to the nation.
The director of Human Life International Malawi, Brother Harris Kachaso MJ, noted that for the second year, the ministry of health had dedicated a week (July 16 to 22) to urge Malawians to be aware of their HIV status.
...
"The idea is good, but HIV/AIDS can not decrease if the authorities concerned and other groups continue to promote condoms," Br. Kachaso told CISA. "The concerned authorities should stop promoting condoms because this is no different from promoting genocide in a country."
He said not even discordant couples should be advised to use condoms. They instead "should learn to live a sacrificial love where the
It's no wonder that pop star Madonna lost her heart to the little boy she adopted from a Malawi orphanage last year. There are rumours she is planning to return to adopt a black brother or sister for David. But you don't need to go that far to help this former British colony of Nyasaland. Tourists can boost the country's economy simply by coming here and spending their money. Admittedly a visit to Malawi is more of an adventure than a holiday.
Since adopting a kid from Malawi is a very complicated procedure, Madonna has to prepare for a live in welfare service worker who will stay with the family to make sure David is in proper care. Their primary concern is to make sure he is happy and healthy, and that the media attention is not having a negative affect on his development.
As the child services explained: “The child is on a probationary period so we are going to check that he is bonding with his new family, I will meet the social services agency in their area. I want to watch what family life is like. I just want to make sure the child is happy and with a good family. I have met both Madonna and Guy Ritchie and they seem like nice people.”
After this visit it will help determine if Madonna can take full custody of the child.
Here’s a pic of Madonna with all her children including baby David. Yeah, I think the baby David is happy and healthy because he can have whatever he wants in life. Baby Nikes, you got i
With all the sobering news lately about global warming and war, it’s important to remember all the positive things that are ALSO going on in the world at any given time. Case in point: the story of intrepid Malawi youth William Kamkwamba who, despite having no formal education or training, recently engineered and built a windmill to power his house. It’s certainly the most inspiring story we’ve read this month, and we think you’ll agree… (more)From inhabitat.

I was so fascinated by the story of the Niggers Clothing store in Malawi, that I had to find out more.
I had to talk to people who actually saw this store. I tried to reach David Sylvester but I believe he is on a another leg of his bike trek. Good luck David!!
I am with you. We are with you!
Since David was unavailable, I searched on Google for the words "blogger" and Malawi, to see if I could
A lot of people are skeptical about this story on the clothing store in Malawi called "Niggers" so I dug up another photo.
I'm going to look into this further, and hopefully soon I'll speak to some folks in Malawi who can break down the whole racial situation there and what they make of us American Blacks. Many Africans, from what I understand, refer to us as Niggers on a regular basis.
Filed Under: nigger, niggas, race, racial slurs, malawi, hip hop
And tell 'em I said "Wattup, my niggas!" LOL.
I hate how that word has become inseparable from Hip Hop. Nigger, nigga, nigguh, and all it's different forms - I think it's all the same.
And while I may listen to the occasional song that contains the word, the unintelligent usage of it in the gen pop is really outta control right now. Casual usage of it by Whites is especially skull

AN OPEN LETTER FROM MADONNA
Posted: 17 October 2006
My husband and I began the adoption process many months prior to our trip to
Malawi. I did not wish to disclose my intentions to the world prior to the adoption
happening as this is a private family matter. After learning that there were
over one million orphans in Malawi, it was my wish to open up our home and help
one child escape an extreme life of hardship, poverty and in many cases death,
as well as expand out family.
With all the media hype around the Madonna option issue, I can't help thinking
it is just the press searching for a story that isn't really there.
You'd have to ask yourself what would you do in that situation. I think that Madonna
would probably have adopted the whole orphanage if it wasn't such an outrageous
idea. She already sponsors 6 of the orphanages and provides valuable funding
for them.
The father of the boy involved has already expressed his back
