Malan Breton on Australia's Next Top Model
Darlings, our very own Malan Breton from Taiwan appeared on Australia's Next Top Model. The three finalists, Alexandra Girdwood, Samantha Downie, and Demelza Reveley went to New York and modeled for Malan's retrospective show at the Eli Fine Gallery in New York. Since once again the topic du jour in the fashion industry revolves around models, we sat the Suave One down to answer a few

Nancy T Reports from Malan Breton's Trunk Show
On November 20, Malan Breton hosted a trunk show to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity/Fight AIDS in at the Warwick Hotel in NY. Visitors got to talk with Malan while they shopped for clothing from his Spring 2008 collection. Malan was as dapper and charming as ever. We dished about the first episode of Project Runway Season 4. I would be a cad to mention his criticisms of the designers, but will share that his favorites this week included Christian and Jillian. He also talked about the options for his February 2008 fashion show – he might be in the Bryant Park tents next year!Last, but assuredly not least, we looked through his collection together, because I was not going to pass up this opportunity to own a Breton original. While I had attended his fashion show in September, it is a quite different experience to see the clothes up close, feel the fabrics, and examine the construction. The fabrics (silk organzas, mylars, chiffons and sateens) were so luxurious that you had to touch them.

He said he'll save the feathers and beads for his private clients. He'll also be showing Menswear. And Mens underwear. He said it'll be a little risque. I asked, can I have tickets? He's coming out with a fragrance. He's closing his little Atelier in September. He'll have a showroom and a new bigger place this fall. He said soon he'll be in U.S. dept store. He's Exec Producing two shows and he's trying to get Amanda Fields to be in one of them. He was a sweetheart.

A BPR Reader's Malan Breton Story
The tale of the little black dress.By Maddie (Made possible by Malan Breton and readers like you)It was a hot day in mid-May when I journeyed to the East Village in New York City. I was giddy and giggling despite the sweltering Tuesday afternoon. You see, I was coming in for a very special visit with my darling friend and fellow glamour-puss, Malan Breton. A few days before I discovered Malan auctioning off the most precious little-black-dress which would be perfect for my summer trip to Venice, Italy. I immediately called him and and politely asked (begged) for the fabulous frock. Being the darling he is, he agreed to let me have it. We arranged a time for a fitting and I came in. We greeted each other with hugs and kisses and Malan got to work. He had made a sort of rough-copy of the dress and fitted it to my body. I must say, Malan is an absolute master of his craft (“Did I prick you?” “Nope.”). He handled the dress with extreme care as well as the champagne sash and in a ve

      Advice From Malan Breton
We continue our series of "advice to the season four hopefuls" posts. Today we hear from Malan Breton. Dear Laura,My advice to the hopefuls is this: Come with a model in your clothes, I did this season one, two, and three and it is the most effective way of showing your clothes.Be organised and ready, fashion does not wait for anyone. Presentation in the industry is 60 percent of what editors etc are looking for. Also make sure your pieces are made beautifully, construction is key. Also, choose clothing items that best suit your style, be confident when the judges ask you questions regarding your design choices. Be very specific on your thoughts and do not be wishy washy about them. Listen and do not be afraid, the panel wants you to be good.Present items that the mainstream can relate too, a goose feather dress with hood detail unless done beautifully will only leave the judges to wonder if you are ready for the mainstream market that American fashion requires.I do love couture but th

Malan Breton at Birdland - A BPR Field Report
Ciao my darlings! Madeline here with the scoop on our delightful dandy-man Malan Breton’s night of music at Birdland in NYC. I had been battling a nasty cold all week but was able to to hop over to the club with my mother. We were greeted by a lush, elegant interior with art-deco influence surrounding the spacious bar and photos of jazz greats lining the walls; definitely Malan’s kind of place. I was so excited I could barely eat my dinner (which my mother attests was delicious and moderately priced) and, much to my mother’s bemusement, kept craning my neck to see if had come in or not. After a while, I heard a very distinctive and familiar giggle. I turned around and, voila, there he was!! I (not so) subtly waved him over and he waved back as he ducked backstage to get ready. When he came back out, we blew kisses as he took his place amongst the performers. We were treated to a delightfully eclectic and entertaining range of singers including Bronwen Coleman, one of Malan’s gor

      A Note From Malan Breton
Dear Laura,I just wanted to say thank you for your support and coverage of my showing at Mercedes Benz fashion week. This season the collection paid homage to structure, architecture and a young Elizabeth Taylor. It was also an ode to the many new and wonderful friends I have made since my departure from the show.Sadly, the looks list that was printed for the event was not the final copy so many of the details were not featured like the quality wools and silks etc. There were so many detailed sleeves and trousers this season, I am sorry that the lists were not accurate.Click here for an accurate list of all of Malan's looks and models as well as the rest of his note to BPR.

Haute Off the Runway: Malan Breton
So, I'm only a week late posting some fashion week reviews but better late than never, right? Anyway, on to the fashion:Reality shows aren't accurate predictors of talent. Take Jennifer Hudson. She may not have won American Idol, but that hasn't stopped her rise to superstardom. The same can be said of Malan Breton. Being eliminated early from Project Runway hasn't stopped him from designing fabulous clothes. He is the first designer from last season to show at Fashion Week, and his strong showing proves that he didn't need Project Runway after all.As Michael Kors would say, Malan 'really knows a woman's body.' His dresses a perfectly draped, and look so feminine and flowy. My favorites are the two-tone muted gray A-line (being modeled by Melrose from Top Model?), and the A-line tube dress resembling a disco ball. I especially adore the floor length kimono-style belted 'robe' dress - casual glam at its best.I think these dresses would look incredible paired up with one of th
