Where's the Cloverfield monster when you really need him?I know they've been up for a while, but I just took a close look at some of these All-Star Game statues and threw up in my mouth a little. In theory, I can appreciate the marketing strategy. Forty-two Statue of Liberty replicas put up throughout NYC, painted in the colors of a Major League team. It's a good way to publicize the All-Star gam
Our former Big League heroes don’t always leave this mortal coil with the dignity they deserve. Cory Lidle crashed his plane into a high rise building in Manhattan, Bo Diaz fell off his roof while installing a satellite dish, and poor Ray Chapman faded to black after being hit by a pitch. As bad as [...]
USA A family screening of Field of Dreams will turn everyone into baseball believers, as even those who eschew the mythic power of the game will be won over by Kevin Costner's magical performance. The film, which hearkens back to a simpler time without being corny, portrays one dreamer's persistence -- a message that translates to every generation. When farmer Ray Kinsella (Costner) hears a gentl

I was thinking a little about the craziness of Major League Baseball.Last night, the New York Mets played the Los Angeles Dodgers at Shea Stadium. The game began after 8 p.m. and ended after 11 p.m. Eastern Time.Tonight, the Mets play the San Francisco Giants at 10 p.m. Eastern Time — all of this after a cross-country flight that probably didn't take off until well after midnight early this morn

Major League Baseball continues an annual tradition this weekend as it celebrates Mother's Day. Once again, the league will use the day to promote breast cancer awareness and raise money to combat the disease. Special game programs will be sold wherever there is a home game on Sunday, and players from each team will use pink bats when they head to the plate. As in past years, the league will auction off the game-used bats, as well as team-autographed bats, on its website. Proceeds from the sales will go to support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help fight breast cancer. Fans will also be able to buy personalized pink Louisville Sluggers online with 10-dollars from each sale going to Komen for the Cure. Players will also wear pink items such as wristbands and necklaces for the day

It looks like business is about to pick up -- real soon. According to the New York Daily News, Major League Baseball has the Mitchell Report...Major League Baseball officials are reviewing George Mitchell's long-anticipated steroid report at the former Senate majority leader's law offices, 21 months after commissioner Bud Selig asked Mitchell to investigate the use of performance-enhancing drugs in baseball.Officials arrived at Mitchell's Manhattan office Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the investigation who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the topic, and began what is believed to be a 48-hour review period before Mitchell releases the report on Thursday. The report is believed to contain the names of 60-80 former and current players, according to sources, and is based in large part on information provided to Mitchell by former clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski."We cannot comment on anything," MLB spokesman Rich Levin said.MLB officials were revie
As the Boston Red Sox look set to win the World Series, if not sweep the Colorado Rockies in four straight, it’s time for a look at the roles played by major league pitchers in comparison to NHL goaltenders.
Success at both positions relies on controlling a small hard missile that the opposing team is trying to drive forward with sticks or bats.
While pitchers are hurling 100 mile per-hour plus fastballs past, and sometimes towards, hitters, goalies are the ones facing the onslaught of rockets in hockey. Yet both represent the defensive linchpins in their respective sports.
Individual pitchers play a far bigger role in terms of their impact on specific games. This is a fact demonstrated by the odds offered by book-makers on a team, which will vary a great deal depending on the starting pitcher. No doubt a goaltender can be the difference in many a game and outstanding performance at that position is often the key to a team winning the top prize. At the very least, solid play i

Lets take a brief time-out from my football domination to take a look at this year's MLB playoffs. There's some fresh faces in the NL, and the same old teams in the AL. Here's how I see things going down.NLDSDIAMONDBACKS vs. CUBS:This is the toughest series to call. As a die-hard White Sox fan, I need the Cubs to lose, and lose quickly. But except for a hiccup in Florida, the Cubs have looked pretty good down the stretch. Of course, that was against cellar-dwellers, not the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Cubs see a steep drop-off in their pitching after Zambrano and Lilly, but the Diamondbacks don't even go that deep. Brandon Wedd is as dominant a pitcher as their is in the National League, but after him its Doug Davis and Livan Hernandez. The D-backs are a young, scrappy, grind-it-out sort of team, featuring the likes of Chris Young and Eric Byrnes. Still, I think the pitching carries the Cubs in this one. CUBS in 5.PHILLIES vs. ROCKIES:You probably didn't know this, but the

“If you can’t beat them, join them” seems to be the new motto for Major League Baseball.
Ticket scalping or brokering (depending on how softly you want to put it) has been a huge underground business for years. With the internet, it became even easier to buy/sell tickets on the secondary market.
Major League Baseball is now getting in on the act with StubHub.

The Major League Lacrosse (MLL) database is the newest addition to Stadium Hunt. Founded by Jake Steinfeld (yes, that Jake Steinfeld), Dave Morrow and Tim Robertson in 1999, the league’s first season began in June 2001. The MLL is made up of ten teams divided in to two conferences (Eastern and Western).
Notable fields include:
Harvard Stadium (Boston Cannons)
INVESCO Field (Denver Outlaws)
Harbin Field (Washington Bayhawks)
The MLL plans to add two more teams in 2008 to two of the following cites: Columbus, Cincinnati, Dallas, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Diego, Seattle, and St. Louis. In recent years, lacrosse has rapidly grown so it will be interesting to see how successful the MLL turns out to be.

Major League Baseball is finally pressing forward with an all out attack on the one thing that threatens to destroy the very core of the game—the Slingbox. The league is now publicly saying that the Slingbox is in violation of MLB’s broadcast contract because it illegally allows people to view out of market games on their computers. MLB.com is supposed to have exclusive online rights for out of market baseball games, but if somebody with a slingbox goes on vacation or leaves it with somebody in a different city, they will be able to watch out of market games over the internet.
Sling Media, the owner of the Slingbox, believe they are doing nothing wrong. The company’s view is that the Slingbox is just an extension of one’s home television service. Since that service has already been paid for, customers shouldn’t also have to pay another fee at MLB.com to watch the games.
At its core, the dispute is about money. Major League Baseball feels it’s l
StadiumHunt is proud to announce the addition of Major League Soccer to its database of professional sport stadiums. After beginning with 10 clubs in 1996, MLS has grown to include 13 teams including one in Canada. MLS added Toronto FC for the 2007 season with the plan to have three more expansion clubs by 2010. Other current possibilities include the planned 2008 return to San Jose, or expansion to Las Vegas, San Diego, Cleveland, St. Louis, New Orleans, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Detroit, Portland, Seattle or another team in New York or Chicago.
My favorite MLS stadium, you ask? That would have to be the Home Depot Center, home of the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Update: seating charts are not yet available for MLS.

Chelsea and Ukrainian soccerstar Andriy Shevchenko show his interest to move to US Major League Soccer. “I’d like to play there, actually”, Shevchenko said “Soccer is growing in the US and I’d like to be a part of that. I played there last summer against the MLS All-Stars and I saw myself that it’s definitely improving.” Shevchenko revealed he would be interested in a move to Major League Soccer before hanging up his boots.
If Shevchenko decided to move to US MLS he will join other European soccerstar such as English soccerstar David Beckham who will move to US Major League club LA Galaxy.

So, I came downstairs and flipped on the TV just in time to catch second-base umpire Gerry Davis call Willie Bloomquist safe while stealing 2nd base on Monday night. Replays (along with the naked eye) confirmed that he was tagged right on the ass while his hands were still almost 3 feet away from the bag. It was honestly one of the worst missed calls/bad calls you will see in the majors."With all we've been through, it was a well-deserved break, and it came at a good time. I'll take it. On the play itself, I thought it was actually pretty close. But when I got a chance to see the replay ... well, he called me safe, so I was safe. It's a good thing there's no instant replay in baseball." -Willie Bloomsquist-But is it really? Something as little as that, just a bad angle that lead to a bad call by the 2nd base ump can change the outcome of a game. So I was thinking, Maybe Willie's wrong. Maybe instant replay is something that baseball needs to seriously think about.I'm buying insta
