This is the movie that makes me want to believe again that the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is a legitimate film/artistic event. In all the talk about Dubai real estate investments, there is an alienation of the investor of average means being noticed. While it may obvious that to buy properties in Dubai allusions to a luxurious lifestyle followed by the investor may be the norm, it is no way an established fact.

America's social and economic infrastructure is hinged on its response to the new mainstream. In The New Mainstream, Guy Garcia discusses the changing cultural and demographic composition of the country and how it is affecting various aspects of modern existence in America, such as commerce, entertainment, politics, and religion.

Making an ultrathin laptop requires a careful selection of components, as well as a willingness to push the limits of technology.Laptop makers strive to build their ultraportables ever lighter and thinner without skimping on features or power. Last year's Toshiba Portégé R500 and Sony VAIO VGN-TZ150N were trailblazers in the thinness quest. Both fit optical drives in sub-3-pound frames less than an inch thick. (The R500's DVD drive is just 7mm thick.) They both have motherboards the size of your hand, and other miniaturized components. Yet trade-offs were made. The R500 and TX150N have a meager 1GB of RAM apiece (we recommend 2GB to run Vista), and their CPUs are weak. The latest thinness champ is the Apple MacBook Air. Its thickest part (at the back, lid closed) is 0.76 inch, about the s

It's human nature to look for the easy way out. Why should reporters be any different? The media has gotten used to well-worn, comfortable ways of "reporting" on presidential elections. They accept, and repeat, over and over, the Republican meme that Democrats are elite latte drinkers, out of touch with ordinary Americans, while Republican candidates, no matter how privileged and wealthy, are presented as men (they've always been men) of the people. It's a lot easier than thinking critically and maybe it's more fun to talk about Obama's bowling score than it is to discuss the war in Iraq, health care, or the economy.
A Bloomberg piece yesterday, entitled "Obama's Record Has Republicans Dusting off "Liberal" Attacks", is a case in point. This isn't reporting, it's a hackneyed piec
This ditty from This Week in Education: Hard as it may be to believe, all this education blogging that's going on is still so far part-time and/or amateur (unpaid), and little of it part of mainstream news sites. But that won't last for much longer, I don't think. Someone will soon get hired to blog about education full-time on a mainstream site. Things have already gone far beyond the first fulltime mainstream hire in other areas. For example, many of the best bloggers who cover economics have already been hired, writes Megan McArdle on the Atlantic blog (Blogging goes professional). Ditto for politics. It could be ether someone new we've never heard about or someone already on the scene.McArdle says, I was at lunch with some blog people today, one of whom wants to recruit an economics bl

Fudzilla: "We've learned that Intel is going to change its policy on overclocking once it moves away from the LGA775 platform onto the desktop Nehalem platform, which is currently known as Bloomfield, which uses the LGA1366 socket. This will be the only platform from Intel which will overclock in the future, as the company is not going to support overclocking on other platforms.Below the Bloomfield is the Lynnfield and Havendale processors, both using the LGA1160 socket. Neither of these are likely to get any overclocking abilities, although we're not sure how Intel can prevent third-party motherboard manufacturers from adding overclocking features to their boards. However, with most of the Northbridge being located inside the CPU of these models, it might be possible for Intel to make some
