Mainstream Media Diverting Terrorism Reporters Into Political Investigations
I see one after another of the mainstream media outlets which have made important contributions to the factual underpinnings of the counter-terrorism effort dropping off that beat. More Bad News From Afghanistan: For the Mainstream Media
More bad news from Afghanistan--for Old Media.[hat tip: Awa Puhi & Pat]No matter how the mainstream media tries to dress it up, the news coming out of Iraq these days is mostly of the good variety. Deaths down, more territory secured and more Iraqis lining up behind what they can increasingly see is the strong horse: the United States military. So what's the big mainstream story? Deaths in Afghanistan are up. Newsroom inhabitants at CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC, the NY Times and other outposts in the once-monolithic liberal news empire can come out from under their beds. It's not that bad. The reason is simple for anyone who studies both the Afghan situation and Congress: ineptitude.A look behind the statistics from Christian Lowe at the Weekly Standard:IT'S TRUE THAT INSURGENT violence is on the rise in Afghanistan, with a surging Taliban taking up tactics first used against U.S. forces in Iraq, including suicide bombs, improvised explosive devices, and vehicle-borne IEDs. The benefits of blogging and its acceptance as a form of mainstream media
There has been growing acceptance and awareness of the terms blogs and blogging. An article on Tech.Blorge.com  revealed that 80% of Americans are aware of blogs and visit blogs on a regular basis. Many people have been accustom to blogs and its ability to provide information on specialised and niche topics that may not be covered in mainstream medias. Others also find blogs as a useful source of entertainment news and gossip, however a large percentage of blog readers still refer to traditional forms of media for news, sharing their time spent with blogs on medias such as newspaper, television and radio. Therefore as people become increasingly aware of blogs, they develop an understanding of the business opportunities blogs. Following is a description of is a list of the opportunities: Targeted advertising: because of the specific nature of blogs which concentrate on particular interest and topics. Major Political Progress in Iraq Goes Unnoticed by Mainstream Media
Recently we have heard unofficial reports that General Petraeus’ report would show military gain in Iraq and very little political progress. With Democrats having to concede that the surge is working they are hanging their fortunes on the fact that little has been accomplished politically. They will use this as their new excuse for reason to surrender in Iraq. They need little or no political progress in order to keep up their we must surrender rhetoric. Perhaps that is why the recent political breakthrough in Iraq is getting so little coverage by the oh-so-willing-to-go-along-with-the-Democrats main stream media. “These leaders … recognize the true and meaningful reconciliation that needs to take place,” Bush said in a brief statement upon his arrival at Albuquerque. “They recognize this is a process. Yesterday’s agreement reflects their commitment to work together for the benefit of all Iraqis to further the process.” He said their action

Sometimes the Mainstream Media Ticks Me Off
I was going to write this post about how David Beckham opened his Galaxy account with a trademark free kick goal in the 27th minute against DC United in the Superliga semi-final. I intended to note how the crowd at the Home Depot Center was buzzing with anticipation the moment DC was whistled for a handball in the spot, and Beckham delivered even though he hasn’t taken a free kick in eight weeks. I also was going to mention how DC goalkeeper Troy Perkins has obviously never come up against a free kick like that as Perkins looked totally lost. Finally, I wanted to note how the Galaxy seem to play better as a team with Beckham on the field. Then I made the mistake of watching national news outlets “cover” the game. I’m normally not one to complain about soccer coverage in the United States, and for the most part, I’m pleased with what we have. However, I have to comment on the coverage of this game. The pattern of nearly every sports highlight show wa

Homeschooling Receives Long Overdue Credit From Mainstream Media
By Mimi Rothschild Michael Alison Chandler of The Washington Post wrote a compelling and positive article on homeschooling yesterday. Often times the mainstream media has been critical of homeschooling. Media outlets have overlooked homeschooling’s success and instead focused on a number of unimportant related issues during the debate over homeschooling. Chandler gives credit where credit is due and praises the quality education homeschooling delivers to students. Chandler notes that homeschooling “is gaining ground in a crucial arena: college admissions.” Most colleges and universities have a formal policy in place for evaluating homeschooling students. This policy will prove to be monumental as the number of homeschooling students have increased to almost two million students in America. I’m so happy that homeschoolers are finally being lauded for their accomplishments and their first-class educations. Chandler describes my excitement when thinking about how far homesch

Mainstream Media to Bloggers: Bug Off
Today we have the latest essay from Peace Tree contributing author, Dr. Ernest Partridge. Mainstream Media to Bloggers: Bug Off Ernest Partridge, Co-Editor The Crisis Papers January 16, 2007 The internet has the mainstream journalists worried, and for good reason. As the establishment sees it, millions of pajama clad amateurs are sitting at home pounding their keyboards and then uploading their uninformed, unedited and unrefined streams of consciousness, while print media circulation and TV News ratings continue to fall. Accordingly, NBC's Brian Williams laments that as the public abandons the mainstream media, the nation will "miss the next great book or the next great idea, or that we will fail to meet the next great challenge... because we are too busy celebrating ourselves." Despite the internet's manifest shortcomings, the Pew Research Center reports that in November, 2004, 29% of the adult population was getting its news from the internet.

The problem with the mainstream media's focus on Superman
Well how about that! I managed to find a copy of that Time article on Superman from two years ago (May 17, 2004) that told the readers what to think/believe is the problem with the Man of Steel these days. And I can't say I'm happy with what they did here. First, the subtitling:The Man of Steel is looking a little rusty. He's not tragic. He's not cool. Can America's original superhero find a way to reconnect with us?A better question might be - can the MSM find a way to reconnect with the consumer? Because this dud certainly doesn't. Man of Steel is uncool? Please. And who needs more tragic than what we've already got? Gimme a break.Superman is still the company's flagship icon, but Batman outsells him...Superman may not sell as well as he could, but I'm not sure if Batman sells that well either. In fact, last time I looked, Supergirl was the one selling really high on the charts, showing that a lot of people uphold the return of Kara Zor-El these days. For America's multimill
