Magna Carta: did she die in vain?
Days like these 42 days in clink without a charge. What rotters would pursue such a vile infringement of our ancient liberties? The answer is: Ann Widdecombe, the DUP, our old friend Bob Spink and most of the Parliamentary Labour Party. Bloggers now regularly make waves, but rarely do they get quoted by the Prime Minster. During firey exchanges at this week’s PMQs, ahead of the crucial 42 [...]

      A copy of Magna Carta...
We put the copy, in its rather splendid black and gold-coloured case, on the table here with other odds and ends after reading it and talking about it for a bit...then it got moved about when I cleaned and dusted...and somehow it has ...

Steve Stevens Memory Crash (Magna Carta)
Steve Stevens is best known as the raven-haired foil to platinum-blond pop-punk icon Billy Idol; he’s the leather-clad Les Paul–lover whose incendiary solos lit up Idol hits like “Rebel Yell” and “White Wedding”. But Stevens also moonlights as an instrumental rock-guitar virtuoso, and on Memory Crash he proves to be a startling picker in the same league as Joe Satriani. After the majes

      MAGNA CARTA - Seasons (1970)
Prog Related-United Kingdom "It was a very good year Magna Carta present something of a quandary when attempting to pin them down to a sub-genre. Their roots are very much in the same folk rock territory as bands such as FAIRPORT CONVENTION and THE STRAWBS, perhaps even extending as far west as SIMON AND GARFUNKEL at times (Glen Stuart's voice is similar to Art's). In their early days however,

MAGNA CARTA - Songs from Wasties Orchard (1971)
Prog Related-United Kingdom "MAGNA CARTA is an English ‘folk’ band, formed in 1969 in London by Chris Simpson, Lyell Tranter, and Glen Stuart. They were part of the early progressive wave, but without really fully stepping into the progressive realm. Magna Carta’s music is largely inspired and influenced by the folk of Simon & Garfunkel, focussing on soft and gentle acoustic music, often with a

Breakfast Links: Lego Millennium Falcon, Magna Carta FS & Manifold
Lego has just released their biggest set ever and happily it is the Ultimate Collectors Millenium Falcon! The price tag on this bad boy? $499.99. That some serious scratch - the Lego shop optimistically has set a limit of 5 of these per customer. I wonder if people really were like,”I got 5 g’s burning a hole in my pants… Man, I need 10 of those!” Gizmodo shows pictures of the unboxing - it’s got 5,000 pieces and a 4 pound manual. Someone I know ought to get one and put that bad boy together. Blindfolded. So, who knew this? First of all there’s 17 original versions of the Magna Carta? Somehow they’re all original despite the fact that they come from the reigns of 3 different kings? At any rate, the most important one about to go up for sale at Sotheby’s! Ross Perot, the owner, is expecting a sale of $20-$30 million on is $1.5 million original purchase price 2 decades ago. Not bad! I guess that’s why he’s a billionaire. That a

From the Magna Carta to the Human Right Act
Gordon Brown has begun to detail his plans for government, reports The Observer: A Brown-led government would:· Build 100,000 new eco-homes in specially designed 'green towns' so the public can buy affordable homes that have a low impact on the environment.· Have doctors' surgeries open at the weekend and GPs on call in the evenings so that patients to not have to wait for appointments during working hours. Doctors were given the right of opting out of out-of-hours care two years ago, under a controversial pay deal, signed by the then Health Secretary, John Reid, that awarded them a 22 per cent pay rise last year.· Strip Number 10 of some of the powers conferred on it by 'royal prerogative' - particularly the ability to declare war should only be done with the approval of Parliament. William Hague, the shadow Foreign Secretary, will push the issue in a debate in the Commons on Tuesday.Of this trio of policies, the last is the most interesting to politicos across Britain. It

Magna Carta - In Concert(1971)320kbpsOne of the six Magna Carta albums that went gold in Europe, In Concert was recorded live in Amsterdam in 1971, and remains one of the most atmospheric concert recordings of its age. A wonderful venue (the Concertgebouw), an appreciative audience, and a genuinely intimate selection of songs result in performances that cannot even be compared to their studio counterparts. They're not better, they're not worse, they're just delightfully different, spun with a spontaneity and warmth that truly place the listener stage center. "Airport Song" opens the proceedings, of course, but the band was preaching to the converted that night -- every song is received as a conquering hero, and the band responds with equal generosity. A playful "Banjo Man," a haunting "Seven O'Clock Hymn," an eerie "Ring of Stones" -- every track is a highlight, while the newly arrived Davey Johnstone, making his recorded debut with the band, shines so brightly that it's hard to b
