I feel rather stupid for not putting this up earlier. I recently opted to get a free issue of F & SF magazine to review. I'm about half-way through right now and expect to get it done this weekend to help promote the magazine. It's actually pretty decent and I'm enjoying it thus. However, F & SF contacted me the other day to tell me there is a special offer to bloggers for subscriptions

We’ve been posting to this blog for many months on different thoughts concerning the different magazine subscription services we offer. What we’ve found through trial and error is that there are 2 huge limitations to getting found on the search engines by more readers who can benefit from our tidbits of wisdom. The first is that Yahoo, MSN and Google which are responsible for most traffic via search engines treat our blog differently. The second problem is coming up with content as fast as possible in the most cost effective way.
I was reading a blog I’ve been following for over a year and he posed a challenge this weekend and asked his readers if they could come up with a compelling question about ranking on the 3 top engines. So based on our personal challenges with getting the word out, my question is:
“James, Since the engines have different algorithms for rankings would you with your blog, create different postings for each engine and in a sense run 3 separ

If you want a sophisticated wedding, but you don't necessarily have the Martha Stewart instincts to sew your own ring-bearer pillows, Modern Bride will help you plan an elegant day nonetheless. The many style tips for the bride (from gowns to lingerie to makeup and hair), ideas on flowers and favors, accounts of real weddings, registry information, and honeymoon suggestions are bound to stir your imagination. Also included is postceremony advice on topics such as finance and sex. This is not the magazine to help you with the nitty-gritty--there are no monthly planning calendars or details on how to find the perfect reception hall or photographer--but it will give you great ideas for making your wedding day your dream day. As with any bridal magazine, much of what is useful is the abundance of ads, especially if you're still scouting for the perfect gown. --Jenny Brown

I had an opportunity to check out a copy of the new AFTERCAPTURE magazine today. I read it cover to cover while I was waiting for a client to arrive at the studio. The publishers are offering some sort of free subscription, available for a limited time. I was extremely impressed by the printing, visuals and content. I would have to say that it might well be the most useful magazine ever published for Digital Photographers. No kidding!Check them out on their WEBZINE to get a feel for the content.
If architecture is only your hobby, Architectural Record Magazine might be too much for you. At least we as a magazine subscription service are not making our entire living with it and do not have to know everything about it. Chances are that only a small part of the content in each issue might interest you. Nevertheless, Architectural Record Magazine is a good and serious architecture journal. So the key question is not whether to read it or not, but how to read it wisely or read which issue(s).
We have a lot of corporate magazine subscribers and we even sell subscriptions to a bunch of school and public libraries so we don’t really have a handle on who subscribes or who reads it but we do have a good cross section of readers.
Architectural Record Magazine displays great photography including very exotic and intriguing designs. Reading this magazine is very enjoyable because of its easy layout, and of course because of what it contains. Architectural Record Magazine is truly wo

one of the first strategies is to contact other sites requesting a link to our site but we would have to be kidding ourselves to think that a magazine subscription site would link to us. It would make no sense. So what we need to do is find relevant sites which are not competitive and we need to contact them directly to link back to us. And this gives us a wealth of choices because of the fact that we sell magazines to libraries, corporate and business subscriptions customers, students, teachers and individual subscribers. Besides this, we also sell gift and renewal subscriptions, not just new ones.
Timetable: You can expect to spend each day or once a week depending on your interest contacting other sites.
There are a variety of ways to find these “linking partners”. The rule of thumb has two rules of thumb. The more personal your relationship with the linking “prospect” the more likely the prospect will become a linking “partner”. The 2nd rule is that the more prospe
If you don’t have great credibility one of the first steps to take is to build up a customer base — a group of people who trust you and will most likely buy a product that you offer to them. This will ensure that you have a recurring and consistent source of income. So as we have been involved in building out a magazine subscription service to individual subscribers as well as students, schools, libraries and businesses, the essential challenge has and continues to be to establish a core group of subscribers who will evangelize our services, our cheap discount prices and our selection of magazines.
When you release a product or make an endorsement, you have a group of people always ready to hear what you have to say. Plus, if you work in some viral marketing, you can even incentivize your customers to forward your offers to their friends. This is when the real magic happens.
There are several sources that you can tap into to start building a customer base. For example, you c
Here’s a starting question: do you think it is easier to sell a product or service like a magazine subscription to a complete stranger or to a person you have had contact before? The mechanism for delivering the sale approach could be an email conversation, a forum participation or even an existing customer relationship (i.e. He has bought something from you). In all cases, the question remains the same, which approach is easier to close the subscription sale? I suppose part of this question could take a diversion by asking in a parallel way whether it depends on the type of person or business being targeted with the offer. I mean would your answer vary if you were selling a discount subscription to a student who is mostly price conscious or you were selling a magazine subscription service to a business or corporate customer. Or what if you were selling to company library or a school library for a public high school. And this question really applies to any industry, product or se
Let’s imagine a situation where we have two Internet ecommerce oriented companies who know of each other. One has a great product that will sell very well but he has no mailing list, no affiliates, nothing. Let’s call this the magazine subscription service with killer prices and cheap disounts. This company knows it can sell magazines to corporate customers, students looking for educator discounts, businesses with reception areas and waiting rooms or even individual consumers who want gift subscriptions or just a way to renew subscriptions each year. But this company has a big problem.
The other company is more of a great marketer with tens of thousands of subscribers in his mailing list, but the problem is he has nothing to sell to them. The most obvious solution here is to make bridge between the first and second company like a Reese’ Pieces snack bar and give the product to the great marketer with lots of contacts, so that he can market the magazines to his list and s
There are just a few more areas to cover with on-page optimization specifically related to the content on a web page. So while we’ve reviewed the primary steps we took to optimize MagMall for magazine subscription services related keywords like cheap magazines or discount subscriptions, there are a couple items to take note of when you start expanding your efforts towards secondary keywords like library subscription services or corporate magazine services.
The first item relates to insert keywords into comments tags.
Comment Tags:
It is debatable whether to put keyword rich content inside comment tags. If you do, the rules are just like everywhere else. Don’t stuff keywords and don’t go overboard. Just do it as naturally as you can.
The structure of a comment tag is <! — keyword rich text here –>
As an example, a keyword oriented comment could look like:
<! Magazine subscription service –>
Keyword Stemming:
This refers to the pro
Now that we’ve finished covering some basic search engine optimization (SEO) techniques for using optimal “linking” to increase our rankings for cheap or discount magazine subscription related search phrases, there is still more ground to cover on some other fundamental concepts like proper image validation.
This is a great method for showcasing different services because for every image you display on a web page you can use the alt tag to describe the image. PLUS, and this is a big one, you can also use the image name (ie. the filename) as another way to insert your targeted keywords onto your page. So if you have 5 services for example, you could use an icon for each service and then name each image for each service plus use the alt tag inside the img src of the html to describe the service.
In the case of MagMall this means I could have an image for our “Library Subscription services” and the image would be named “library-subscription-services.jpg” for example and the
As this magazine blog covers some interesting search engine optimization (SEO) techniques we’ve been applying to increase our rankings for our primary search phrases related to cheap or discount magazine subscriptions, we’ve spent a lot of time covering a lot of ground on mostly basic yet fundamental concepts.
I’m trying to take a linear approach to describing the methods we’ve used to let the search engines uncover in a natural way what our site is about. I’m not trying to fool the engines at all. The problem is that with so many dozens or even hundreds of sites offering magazine subscriptions and then thousands of sites offering other magazine related services, I’ve got to make sure that the content on our site contains the keywords the engines need to know about in order to enable our site to be found when people are searching for magazine subscription services for their own use, for their public or school library or for their business reception room or waiting area. The
So far, in the body content area, we’ve covered the way in which you write your text, the way in which you wrap your keyword rich text and to a point we’ve talked about where you put your keywords. What I have not covered are some alternative areas in which you can display more things that relate to what your site is about. For example, one of the most overlooked sections where we are able to display that we sell cheap magazine subscriptions at discount prices is on our Copyright section.
Here I have a few options because on each page besides my home page it depends who I am targeting with the content for that page. So if that particular page is devoted to public, private and school libraries then my copyright would for sure mention the words library subscription services. If I was targeting students looking for discounts, I would include words like “Student Discounts on Magazine Subscriptions”/
