March Golf Tip by Rick Maclean AAA Golf Professional
So many golfers have trouble aligning to the target. Most right hand, right eye dominant golfers will tend to aim to the right of the line they believe they are set up to. (Opposite for lefties) When you get some time to practise try setting up to different targets then placing your golf club along the line of your toes and then stand behind and see where you are really aligned. If you aim consistently to one side or the other you must have to make some sort of compensation in your golf swing to try to hit the ball towards the target. Most swing faults can be attributed to grip, alignment and posture. Next column I will explain some good solid alignment basics to not only help you aim down the target line but also feel like you are as well. Rick Maclean

      Fitzroy Maclean – Eastern Approaches
I suspect that few boys have read the novels of Rider Haggard through the years and not dreamed that they would one day cross deserts, fight in battles and explore strange countries. The reality of escapist adventure though, is that it is the stuff of dreams, not reality and the closest most people get to adventure is running for the bus in the morning. Fitzroy Maclean was a real life

Feburary Golf Tip By Rick Maclean AAA Golf Proffesional
In general most golfers use golf balls that are too hard for the swing speed that they can consistantly generate. Golf ball tecnology has advanced greatly over the years and it has become obvious that most golf balls marketed up until recent times were 90 compression. Today manufacturers are producing golf balls with as low as 50 compression which would be more suitable to the lady golfer or senior player who does not generate the same swing speeds of yesteryear. While manufacturers will have their recommendations of what swing speed suits what compression ball the only true indication of which golf ball you should be using is to compare for your self. Ask your Golf Professional for more information and possible suggestions and then do your own comparisons. Tip.... Put the ego away and t

Akaash Maharaj - Maclean's 50: NATO Hanging in the Balance
In Afghanistan, the vast majority of NATO states have revealed an abject hypocrisy: they are all too happy to cower under an umbrella of security held over their heads by the sacrifice of others, including the wholly disproportionate casualties being borne by Canadian soldiers. If our NATO partners are not prepared to live up to their obligations today, they should not expect Canada or others to recognise any obligation to them tomorrow.

CBC Hockey Night in Canada: Coach’s Corner with Don Cherry and Ron MacLean
Hockey Night in Canada’s Coach’s Corner, aka the Don Cherry/Ron MacLean freak show, went beyond its usual bizarre level of awfulness on Saturday. The desperate for attention Cherry, whose ostentatious camp outfits make the most over-the-top transvestites look withdrawn and tame in comparison, threw a petulant hissy fit on-air as MacLean interrupted his defense of eight-time loser Chris Simon. Incoherence collides with regression into sulking infancy, alternately coddled and prodded by a professional sycophant. Add in the insulation provided by a few decades’ worth of high ratings and you’ve got a pair of embarrassing clowns erroneously confident in the belief that they attract viewers based on something honourable, worthy of respect or representative of quality in any way. Someone who yells, berates and becomes apoplectic at anyone who dares to hold an alternate viewpoint. Completely and totally bereft of skill in defending his opinion except for increasing the

Akaash Maharaj - Maclean's 50: Harper is But Mad North North-west
Stephen Harper's penchant for manufactured outrage is, perhaps, more comprehensible in light of the inexorable ooze of revelations seeping out of the AECL fiasco. Though Maclean's Magazine jocularly hints at a more organic source for his antics, Harper is but mad north north-west... The reason he does not sustain his tantrums is that his outbursts are nothing more than the oldest of political ploys: when caught in an indefensible position, attack instead, and hope that the collective mind of the media wanders before the truth emerges.

Akaash Maharaj - Maclean's 50: A Sordid Campaign of Character Assassination
How is it possible for the NDP, a party of such zealous political self-righteousness, to engage so fervently in so sordid a campaign of character assassination? One of the many ironies of politics is that there is little more ethically corrosive than the ideological certainty of virtue. It was because Robespierre The Incorruptible was utterly convinced of the morality of his position that he was able to sanction the immorality of the Reign of Terror. It is because the NDP believes that it holds a monopoly on the interests of The People that it is able to casually sanction the destruction of innocent people.

      Akaash Maharaj - Maclean's 50: My Enemy's Enemy
With General Musharraf declaring martial law in Pakistan, I argue in my commentary for the Maclean's 50 that by joining hands with the dictator - even in an obvious alliance of convenience against the Taliban - we sent a message to the people of Pakistan that we were prepared to try to purchase security for ourselves at the price of oppression for others. If history has taught us anything, it is that such a Faustian bargain is a fool's bargain, which leaves everyone but the devil worse off... My enemy's enemy is not always my friend; all too frequently, he is just as odious as my enemy himself.

      Doug MacLean...The Owner...Part 2!
I can always count on Michael Arace at the Dispatch to have the information I was looking for. Today when I wrote my earlier post I was looking for a quote about Marc Denis but I couldn't find it...luckily for me on Arace's blog today he had the quote I needed. When MacLean was asked what he regrets the most about his time as General Manager he said said:“In hindsight the one thing that jumps out is the goaltending. It bothers me to this day. I thought Marc Denis was the guy. But he gave us five pretty good years, not five great years.”So for Denis he is having an owner who has publicly bashed him. Also, Arace brings up some points about Clark that kind of make sense. He says:There’s little doubt that Campbell will soon be on his way. He’s beholden to the soon-to-be-previous owners and, besides, it’s easy to shove aside a guy who was arrested for suspicion of DUI – as Campbell was last January.A conspiracy theorist can put some other pieces together: Was not Jim Clark

      Doug MacLean...The Owner.
Seriously?! This is crazy don't they know MacLean's history? I suppose he will be better as an owner than a General Manager. I mean he couldn't get much worse...could he? Truth Serum has his feelings on the subject. I really have nothing to say...

Columbus GM Doug Maclean gets the Axe
From TSN: The Blue Jackets were 172-258-62 all-time under Doug MacLean, and are the only NHL franchise to have never reached the post-season. MacLean was named general manager of the Blue Jackets on February 11, 1998 and was named president a month later. He also coached the team from January 7, 2003 through January 1, 2004. He is the only president and general manager in the history of the franchise. Patience finally ran out on Maclean as the Jackets have never finished higher than 11th in the West since they entered the NHL. That just won't cut it when you compare the success of the Wild, Thrashers, the rebuilding of the Penguins, all during Maclean's tenure as the Jackets' GM.He meant well-Maclean drafted Nicolai Zherdev 4th overall in the 2003 draft and Rick Nash 1st overall in the 2002 draft. Too bad that those 2 guys, especially Zherdev, have turned in to injury-prone culls.-Take a look at the other picks he's made on draft day. Not many materialized into NHL-ers.-Chalk up

Akaash Maharaj - Maclean's 50: Not Always Getting Their Man
With the RCMP disgorging scandals week after week, I argue in my commentary for the Maclean's 50 that the government's response, or lack thereof, is a cautionary tale for all of us involved in the political process: it is far too easy for those who sincerely wish to change politics to instead be changed by politics.

Akaash Maharaj - Maclean's 50: Revolution less than Tranquille
In the wake of the tectonic changes wrought by last night's election in Quebec, my commentary for the Maclean's 50 argues that the greatest rebuff to the separatists is not that the PQ was humbled, but that it was supplanted by the ADQ, whose position on sovereignty is at best opaque and at worst intentionally obfuscatory. Quebeckers did not simply reject the PQ's answer to the question of separatism; they rejected the question itself. Nevertheless, there is much in the rise of the ADQ that should disquiet us all.

Akaash Maharaj - Maclean's 50: Return of the Prodigal Sons
My commentary for the Maclean's 50 attempts to put the budget into a historical context: in essence, the most conservative party ever to govern our country has brought in the most etatiste budget in our history. Politics have always been Canada's national theatre, but surrealism and farce have apparently never been more in vogue.

      Don't H8 - Dana Maclean
Chuck E. Cheese. Where a kid can be a kid....and see a weiner.Dana McLean (above) decided that it would be ok for him to pull his pants down inside of a Chuck E. Cheese and let the trouser snake loose. Maybe this was some sort of sick way to pay his parents back for naming him Dana? What dad would do that to their little boy?Regardless, he thought he would try and run away and ends up getting caught in some nearby woods. After being placed under arrest, he was placed in the back of a patrol car where he thought it would be a good idea to smash out the police cruser window. It appears that he might have used his face to do so.Mclean is charged with indecent exposure, assault, escape and criminal mischief. He's being held on $5,000 cash bail.
