Review from Norman Rec' - That Steve Fanagan has been a busy chap again. Proprietor of Slow Loris records, a charmingly packaged Irish imprint who's limited releases have calmed many a furrowed brow. He's back under his Moose Eats Leaf guise for a brand new LP of home recorded introspection, exploratory guitar meanderings infused with some subtle psychedelic shades. Hello everyone!Sorry for the lateness of this post, but we just got home! Moose, a British group formed in 1990, released several gauzy records through the decade. While often tagged as a shoegazer band, and certainly their earliest singles were, they evolved into something distinctly their own- a woozy, lush and orchestral brand of pop. They started with three eps on Hut Records, later released together as Sonny and Sam (the shoegaziest of their records, if you will). Jason irritation at the grasshopper's cautionary driving is tested when Spinelli has to slam on the brakes as a moose gets in front of the SUV. As he does this, he flings Maxie out of her hiding spot in the back seat. She decided to stoaway for the night's adventure. To say the least, Jason is not pleased. He drops her off at a bus stop. He said he "felt good," but that he's "not in pitching shape," and "wasn't able to get the ball where [he] wanted it with two strikes." Which is something you would expect in the first week or two of spring training, when a pitcher's command isn't quite there yet. He also complained that he doesn't have an out pitch at the moment, which worries me a bit, as that seemed to be his problem for much of last year -- he was unable to put hitters away. weird factsAP) Alaska State Troopers see plenty of hazards, but Trooper Howard Peterson was nearly felled by a new one: falling moose. Peterson was driving Feb. 2 on the Seward Highway south of Anchorage when something big and black fell out of the sky about 20 feet in front of his patrol car. "Falling rock!" he thought, ready to steer clear if it bounced onto the highway. The thing didn't roll or shatter. It turned out to be a moose that fell from cliffs next to the highway.Drivers often see Dall sheep on the cliffs but rarely moose. Peterson estimates the animal fell 150 feet or more.It was windy that night, Peterson said, and a gust may have startled the moose into a fatal fall."They occasionally have bad days like the rest of us," said wildlife biologist Rick Sinnott. Couldn't resist. Someone sent me this today. Damage Report below, We need to tell you that there was some damage to the statue of the American Bison in front of the house in Big Sky. We did attempt to prevent the damage, throwing stones at, and hitting, the attacker. The attacker could not be dissuaded, and kept up his assault for eight hours. The incident even caused a traffic situation in front of the house. The damage consisted of: 1) The loss of about two inches from the left horn. The broken piece is on the work bench in the garage. 2) Hoof scratches on the side of the Bison. 3) Some chips in the right rear hoof. 4) Blood stains behind the Bison. So, on to the game tonight between the Kings and Canucks. An interesting scenario here is that the Kings have lost 3 straight road games. The Canucks are 1-3-0 at home this season. The highest scoring Canuck so far is Daniel Sedin with 8 points. Anze Kopitar leads the Kings with 11 points. Both teams are coming off losses tonight, so it

So Nonis keeps on adding defencemen to the Canucks' system. Today he claimed Mike Weaver off waivers from the Kings. Weaver had 3 goals and 9 points in 39 games with the Kings last year. He has 3 goals and 24 points in 149 career NHL games. The 29 year-old was signed as free agent by Atlanta in 2000 and was never drafted it seems. I believe his salary with Los Angeles was $500,000. Weaver Pro's (from Sportsnet)Moves the puck well out of the defensive zone and owns decent offensive instincts. Doesn't shy away from the rough going. Weaver ConsNeeds to work on taking the body consistently and must add more strength in order to compete against bigger NHL forwards. Here is something I never, ever, in my wildest dreams, thought of. Milking moose.
The first time I went to Alaska, I stayed at the downtown Anchorage Holiday Inn. That first morning, I was delayed by hotel staff, who wouldn't let us into the parking lot -- a moose was walking around outside. Downtown Anchorage!
The next time I went to Anchorage, I stayed in a friends bed & breakfast. That first morning, I found a note outside my door: "Dan, look in the back yard. There's a moose!" So, I open the back door, and THERE's the moose -- 3 feet from the back door! Very scary. I quickly closed the door, and looked through the window. The moose just kept on trimming the hedges.
Moose are very dangerous, I'm surprised that people are domesticating them.

Mylanta?? worth a try ;)Source: News.com.au Burping moose add to global warming From correspondents in Oslo August 23, 2007 08:52am A GROWN moose belches out methane gas equivalent to 2100kg of carbon dioxide a year, contributing to global warming, Norwegian researchers say. That is more than twice the amount of CO2 emitted on a round-trip flight across the Atlantic Ocean from Oslo to the Chilean capital Santiago, according to Scandinavian Airlines. "An adult moose emits about 100 kilograms of methane gas a year. But methane gas is much stronger than carbon dioxide, so to get the equivalent you have to multiply by 21,'' professor Odd Harstad at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences said. With an estimated 140,000 moose roaming Norway's forests, that is a total of of 294,000,000kg of CO2 per year. But Prof Harstad said that was no reason to begin killing off the
Global warming is impacting more than the water levels in the Great Lakes. It could be the beginning of the end for the moose and wolves of Isle Royale. And if it is, a Michigan Technological University scientist places the blame squarely on the human race.
“Humans have made summers increasingly hot, which likely exacerbates moose ticks,” says John Vucetich, a population biologist in Michigan Tech’s School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science. “Both the heat and the ticks are detrimental to moose. If wolves go extinct for a lack of moose, humans will be to blame.”
Isle Royale is an isolated wilderness island near the northwestern shores of Lake Superior, close to the Canadian border. A U.S. National Park, it is home to a variety of rarely seen wildlife, including moose and wolves.
But the moose and wolf populations on Isle Royale are shrinking, and Michigan Tech researchers, who have been them for nearly 50 years, blame it on climate change. Five of the last six summ
So everybody’ been talking how about how lucky Coco Crisp is to have not been injured when he was “viciously assaulted” by the Mariner Moose. Over the last 24 hours there’s been a lot of outrage directed towards The Moose, and he has been painted as an evil villain whose complete disregard for all that is good in the world nearly caused Coco Crisp to get hurt.
But here’s the thing. The Moose didn’t just pop out of nowhere—he had been riding around the whole stadium. This version of the video proves it. He started in the right field corner and was riding around to the left field corner. Everybody in the stadium knew where he was going—well, everybody except Coco Crisp. Crisp was too absentminded to look both ways before crossing the street. He needs to learn that in between innings the field belongs to the mascot just as much as it belongs to the players. The Red Sox coach who was shown yelling at the Moose should have been scre

Yea, you're seeing a moose on that telephone pole. Now don't get the wrong idea, I didn't take this photograph, my brother sent it to me and left me to track down the site it came from. The story is the telephone wires were loose on the ground for maintenance when a moose got his antlers tangled in the wires. The workers then raised the wires, pulling the moose into the air. Supposedly an actual police photo but I'm not sure if I believe it. It makes for a good story though.Technorati tags: moose, Wordless Wednesday, Fairbanks, Alaska, photographs
Moose, reindeer to take taste testsSTOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) Moose and reindeer at a Stockholm wildlife park have been invited to an unusual taste panel that will help decide which type of salt should be used to de-ice the country's roads in wintertime. The less they like it, the better. The National Road Administration plans to introduce a new, sweeter blend of road salt, but wants to make sure it doesn't attract wildlife to Sweden's highways, project organizer Frida Hedin said Tuesday. She said the 14 hoofed jury members at Stockholm's Skansen open-air museum will be presented with two salt blocks - one with the new sugary flavor and another tasting like the road salt being used today. The project is expected to start in about a week and last for around two months, Hedin said. As a small child, I loved Easter. My family wasn’t particularly religious so my only obligation for this holiday was to create an Easter basket pretty enough and big enough to house my chocolate bunny and assorted treats the bunny would leave behind. Usually socks and a set of jacks. Sprinkled liberally with those foil-wrapped chocolate eggs that now remind me of the moose shit I have to clean off my lawn every damn week in the summer.
Yummy. You haven’t lived until you step into a pile of moose turds.
Things changed as I became an adult and a parent. Not only did the little foil-wrapped chocolates lose their appeal, but suddenly I was responsible for filling the Easter baskets, not just gnawing on the chocolate bunny. There was also the matter of me becoming a Christian and suddenly this holiday actually has a meaning beyond a little rabbit shitting out chocolate eggs for kids to eat.
Now Easter means dipping hardboiled eggs into the vinegary dye, after an Easter egg s

This is a clip of a guy I know and work with named Darren Pearson. He gathered up the nerve to approach a moose in his yard and it turns out that the moose was pretty friendly. Offering 'her' an apple didn't hurt either. As much as I would love to do something this, as I love animals, it is definitely not recommended to feed wildlife. This moose could be friendly to Darren and then unpredictably hurt the next person she comes across. It's a cool clip, anyway. Here is the second (longer) video he posted on Youtube. Here is what happens when the moose just doesn't like you.Unfortunately, we too often see moose at the last minute while driving at night. I've hit 2 moose while driving in the past 5 years. The first one I 'knicked'. That was a calf that only scraped the mud off the side of my car because I skimmed the back of his leg. No harm done. Item:This is a moose mug replica as seen on "Christmas Vacation"(1989). It's not a screen used prop but is made by A&R Collectibles. My in-laws have a tradition of watching this movie every year at Christmas. Other people watch, "It's a Wonderful Life" or "Christmas Story". We watch "Christmas Vacation". I don't mind, though, because I still laugh at it every year.Auction ends:Nov-29-06 14:26:18 PST See auction Christmas Moose Mugs
