Here's a new piece I call, "Silver Mermaid." That may sound like a cop out title, but it's actually a line from a song that I quite enjoy called, "Sad Stephen's Song" by Duncan Sheik. But when we grew up, things slowly changed and our believes in those kind of things slowly fade way. Some people still believe on this kind of stories and one of them is me. Last night we joined Grace's parents at the Silverton Casino for dinner. While Grace and her family were waiting for our table to be ready, I took Zane over to the Aquarium to see "the fishies." As usual, his reaction to the enormous wall of fish was pure exuberance. High pitch squeals were abundant and so was the crowd of older folks that formed to observe Zane's toddler excitement. On a slightly related note, when I was little, like 3-4, I was totally and completely convinced that little elves ran my brain.
Based on a manga by Hideshi Hino and directed by the mangaka himself, this film was originally part of the notorious underground video series GUINEA PIG (which came to the publics attention when actor Charlie Sheen mistook an episode for an actual snuff movie), GUINEA PIG: MERMAID IN A MANHOLE is the only one to have gained a cult status outside of the series’ infamy. People unfamiliar with the series need only know that it is largely made up of extremely gruesome, brutal and realistic footage. But MERMAID has aspirations beyond simply grossing its viewers out (though it doesn’t skimp on that), and goes more for a David Cronenberg-esque atmosphere of disease and decay, meant to disturb as much as repulse.
