Rumors that Gamespot’s sacked Jeff Gerstmann for his poor review of a game that spent a lot of money for advertising on Gamespot slams a large question-mark on the said Game greview giant’s integrity. One who visited gamespot recently would notice how Eidos purchased ad placements on some of Gamespot’s busiest pages and one could only guess how much Eidos actually spent on those but it’s definitely big, given the high demand for those ad placements because of the Christmas Season and other million dollar games that were released recently that is in dire need of advertising from media giants. Though it’s still a rumor, evidences of Jeff Gerstmann’s untimely termination from Gamespot is due to his poor review (6.0) on Eidos’ Kane and Lynch has been floating around the net and it’s difficult to ignore or brand as “coincidental”. Overheard at Kotaku - We’ve heard an unsettling rumor today from an anonymous tipster that longtime game reviewer Jeff Gerstmann from Gamespot has been let go. That wouldn’t necessarily be newsworthy, but the conditions under which he was allegedly dismissed were. According to the source, Gerstmann was fired “on the spot” due to advertiser pressure for his review of Eidos’ Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. A visit to Gamespot shows that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game has taken over the site very prominently, with backgrounds and multiple banner ads all pitching Kane & Lynch. Allegedly, publisher Eidos “took issue with the review and threatened to pull its ad campaign.” Jeff’s review was certainly less than glowing. He assigned the game a 6.0, otherwise known as “Fair” on the Gamespot scale. The game is currently enjoying a Metacritic score in the 65 to 69 range, which the site describes as “mixed or average reviews.&

So this is disturbing isn’t it… If you haven’t heard yet it is rumoured that Gamespot reviewer, Jeff Gerstmann, has been fired because he gave Kane & Lynch a bad review which was then published amongst a huge amount of Kane & Lynch advertising… Penny-Arcade have been quick to describe the situation in their own special way and Kotaku, who appeared to have broken the story, has a Digg count of 1512 (and quickly climbing) at the time of writing. I have always been a fan of Gamespot but unless this turns out to be a complete hoax I know that I won’t be believing any of their future reviews. However if these publishers want to send some of that huge advertising budget this way I can still be bought…. My personal review:This is a very awaited game and it was indeed worth it! The final result of this new game is simply superb in what relates to gameplay and the graphics themselves. You take the role of a rubber who has to kill everyone who sees him in service and with a simple but interesting story, I am sure that this game will captivate your attention for some days.
