From the Vancouver Sun: "I've had a couple of opportunities to speak in detail with Roberto and I feel great about the conversations and his mindset about moving forward with this team," Mike Gillis said. "He is completely devoted to the team, wants to be competitive, wants to be in the playoffs, wants to win, and he made absolutely clear to me that's his focus. The idea that he doesn't want to be here is the furthest thing from being accurate." Sure, he's devoted now, while he is still under contract. But that could change when his contract expires in a couple of years.Ah, the free agency buzz is already a flutter. The Sun also reports in the same article that unrestricted fee agent Pavol Demitra has been spotted around Vancouver, checking out the sights. Mike Gillis was Demitra's agent a
Some interesting pieces from the Province lately, the first being about Kevin Bieksa explaining how and why it's taking time for him to adjust after returning from injury. "I remember talking to Alain [coach Vigneault] and he said: 'It's not the same kind of game when you left.' It's a playoff atmosphere now and guys are intense and are playing for a playoff spot. Maybe that's why it's taking me a little bit longer than usual to kind of get back. It took between five to 10 games where I started feeling a little bit more comfortable and my reads now are where it's second nature to make a bank pass or pick a puck off the boards. I feel pretty good way that way.” Well I hope he adjusts quicker, because the playoffs are coming. I see greatness in him one minute and then buffoonery the next.

That is what TSN is reporting today. Morrison will have wrist surgery today and will be in a cast for 6 weeks.Morrison had 20 points in 30 games before the injury, and is in the final year of his contract, making $3.2 million per season. He should be back about a month before the playoffs start at best. This is where I hope Raymond or Jaffray can contribute at a consistent level so that Morrison's absence doesn't sting too badly.According to TSN, Roberto Luongo WILL play against New Jersey tomorrow. Alright! It appears that Naslund has caught the Keslerian flu. Maybe they should stop sharing water bottles. He missed practice today. And just to give you an unnecessary visual:T Tags: Brendan+Morrison+out+3+months wrist+injury luongo+returns Naslund+flu
From TSN: Luongo captured First Star honors after posting a 2-1-0 record with a 0.67 GAA, .976 save percentage and two shutouts. Luongo also had a franchise-record shutout streak of 210:34. Pretty hard to argue this one. Luongod has been brilliant lately, even in a loss to the Wild last night. Good on him for getting the recognition that he so rightfully deserves. Long live the King!T Tags: Luongo Player+of+the+Week
Luongo's love of the Johnny Canuck theme is still apparent in his new mask. He thought up the concept with his brother-in-law who lives in Florida.Looks pretty good to me. It would have looked even better with an angry Johnny on the Canucks' jersey, but I digress. The story at Canucks.com can be found here.Click here to see the video of Luongo unveiling the new mask to the media.T Tags: Roberto Luongo's new mask
What a hilarious clip. Known as a mystery man by his teammates, Luongo confides in James Duthie. Check it out here.It was an absolute treat to see (one of my heroes) Borje Salming on Off The Record last night. Even Rick Vaive for that matter. But I can't say I like that arrogant little puke Adam Bennett though. The topics covered were intriguing. I found it interesting that Salming thinks thatNiklas Lidstrom is not only the best Swedish player in the NHL today, but the best European. Not sure I agree there. He also said that Mats Sundin has nothing left to prove at the NHL level. That was met with backlash by the panel and myself included. Sundin needs to lead the Leafs to Glory, regardless of the team he is surrounded by. That is no excuse. The Leafs have had some good teams during Sundin's tenure in Toronto.Anyway, a great show. Check it out here.T Tags: Luongo TSN interview Borje+Salming+on+Off+The+Record
Rest in peace, Bill Wirtz. Here's hoping better days are ahead for the fans you alienated and the team you owned. Ray Slover from the Sporting news wrote a great piece on the death of Hawks' owner Bill Wirtz and how it comes with mixed reactions.Bieksa was back at practice today, but according to Rotoworld he is still ailing in his guts a bit. "I felt good out there, not great, but good," Bieksa said. "I'm fine with my skating, and battling in the corners isn't the big issue. It's more the passing and shooting. I'm told rest will do it, but I can't just sit around doing nothing for the next few months."Trevor Linden may play against the Sharks tonight as well after having a sore groin.Ryan Kesler's groin is better as well after visiting the Swedish Touch Massage Parlour. He may center Markus Naslund tonight. Anyone else think Kess is going to have a good year barring injury? I say he gets 50-60 points if he plays 80 games.Expect a different effort from Vancouver tonight, as Ala
When asked about how he felt about playing a lot less as a backup to Roberto Luongo, Curtis Sanford replied: “That’s going to be a question I’m going to have to get used to, obviously. I had to look at where I was right now and, coming off a season where I had a torn groin, I probably didn’t play as much as I wanted to but I still managed to get in 30 games. But St. Louis decided to go in a

I am a little torn on the matter. Right NOW, Luongo may very well be better. At least now we can guage even more how good Luongo's numbers can be, as he plays on a more defensive team, a luxury t
"It's probably one of the games I felt my best in my career," Luongo said. "I felt [I deserved better], but what are you going to do? Obviously I made a mistake there and it cost us the game. Right now, everything is surreal. Obviously, I'm disappointed because our season is over. I didn't feel like I deserved the season to be over. I wanted to keep going. I think it's going to hit harder when I wake up in the next day or two and I have nothing to do."The mistake he is referring to is his theatrics towards the referee at the beginning of the 2nd OT, raising his arm to call a penalty like a ref would because he thought the hit on Hansen by Rob Niedermayer should have been a penalty. While he was airing out his armpit, Scott Niedermayer took a shot from the point and it went in. What a terrible way for a series to end. It really is surreal. But I like how he says that he himself did not deserve for the season to be over. He didn't say 'our'. And that really was the bottom line in
InterferenceIt appears that the Canucks have made an official complaint to the NHL office about the Stars' rough treatment of Roberto Luongo. At one point in game 3 Luongo was laying on the ice in 'pain' because he was clipped in the head by I believe Ladislav Nagy."There were a couple of incidents in Vancouver where it was tough for the referees to see Louie getting bumped," Vigneault said. "But obviously, all teams tell their players to go hard to the net, to get foot traffic in front of the goaltender and to drive hard. Louie got hit twice there and once almost got hurt. The league is aware of it. It's something we hope the referees are going to be able to see."Vigneault may as well bring it to the League's attention because for one, he wants it to stop. Secondly, if it isn't going to stop, at least the referees will, or may be looking for it to happen and make the call. It's a tough scenario for the refs I'm sure. You want to make the interference call sometimes, but Luongo
Due to the Canucks' lack of desire to win last night, poor Roberto Luongo didn't even tie Bernie Parent's 33-year-old record for single-season wins (47) last night. Instead, Martin Brodeur backstopped the Devils to a 3-2 win over Philly last night and surpassed Parent's feat. Brodeur had good things to say about Luongo in his post-game interview: "If goalies are able to play a lot, they'll get close to it every single year," Brodeur said. "Luongo's in his prime right now and if he doesn't do it this year, it's going to happen. ... I think it's the bulk of the games. If somebody's able to stay healthy and stay successful on a top team, they'll probably be able to challenge that record."That is little consolation to Luongo right now I'm sure. Brodeur would need to lose his last game against the Islanders on Sunday, and Luongo and the Canucks would have to win their last 2 against San Jose and Phoenix in order for Luongo to tie Brodeur and not feel like second best. And in my o
Ian Clark had to work with Luongo to improve his mobility earlier in the season. From the Vancouver Sun today: "The problem with his stance was he was too wide and locking in too early," Clark said. "He was using all his width in his stance so he had nowhere to extend. We actually narrowed him a little bit and heightened him."By "locking in low and wide," Luongo was actually reducing his mobility, one of his most important assets."We worked a lot on being more upright, especially when the play isn't as threatening as it is when the puck is in tight," Luongo said. "For me, there are two areas it really helped me out -- my mobility and reading the play better."If you're more wide and crouched down, you lock in more on the shooter and sometimes you can't react to the pass."Hey, I don't mean to brag...ok, yeah I do... but we were all over that in mid-October, thanks to a family member of mine who works with Clark in the summer.
He capped off his 39th win with last nights victory over San Jose meaning that Kirk McLean no longer holds the franchise record for single season wins. There are 14 games to go still, and I can't see the Canucks slowing down. I think at the top of Luongo's thank you list is Florida, and even if it isn't, it's at the top of mine!
Who can flash the glove out?Pick off a laser beam?Kick a lanky leg outand make Tommy Larscheid scream?Luongo can!!! (that's Roberto)A bingo bango bongo man! This is a pretty funny song about Luongo that you don't want to miss. I found it on the Canucks message board. I believe it's from Team 1040 radio.
