      Lunar eclipse!
About a month ago we were watching a bit of the lunar eclipse. It was pretty cool. A really clear night and we could see it from our living room window. It was nice to stay inside and see it since it was about 10 degrees outside. Mum took a quick pic from our little digital camera - here's what we saw...We see that Astromart.com, a site for amateur and advanced star-gazers and one of the leading portals for astronomy news, classified ads and telescope reviews, has some awesome telescopes for sale. It sure would have been cool if we could have seen it from a telescope - see it more close up!

      Lunar Eclipse Photos
One great thing about living on a small island with little ambient light is that when something like an eclipse occurs you can really see it! I took these photos with my new Blackberry Curve 8320 and emailed them to my computer.First, the moon was full and bright enough to form shadows and require no flashlight for my walk home from the spa. This was taken at 9:02pm.By 9:30pm we could already see the eclipse beginning. At 10pm only a bit of the moon is still lit (but isn't it cool how it is so clear that you can still see the outline of the entire orb?).By 10:02pm, just before I went to bed, only the tiniest sliver of the light remains. Too cool!Tags: Photographs, Turks and Caicos, Parrot Cay, Caribbean, lunar eclipse 2008, lynda lippin

At the full eclipse point, I managed to capture the colors changing from red to violet to blue and finally to a neutral. These photos are completely unadulterated. Next full eclipse is in 2010.

The moon is seen passing through the shadow of the earth as it is photographed in Foxboro Wednesday Feb. 20, 2008. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the full moon passes intoEarth's shadow and is blocked from the sun's rays that normally illuminate it. During an eclipse, the sun, Earth and moon line up, leaving a darkened moon visible to observers onthe night side of the planet. This is the last total lunar eclipse until Dec. 20, 2010. This eclipse occurred on a crystal clear night and was made extra special by appearances by the planet Saturn and Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation Leo.Click here to visit this galleryClick here to visit www.GillisPhotos.com

      Lunar Eclipse
Most everyone probably knows about the lunar eclipse last night. Tony let me borrow his camera to take a picture last night. His lens isn't exactly top choice for taking pictures of things that far away (if you want better star type stuff, go to Blackholes and Astrostuff). But I tried my luck and was pleasantly surprised. The picture is really small, but it doesn't look too bad for a little bitty lens not intended for taking pictures of the moon.

      Google Lunar X Prize
So, Google are running a competition and offering a large sum of money as the prize (currently $30m) - the website is here. Great, that could keep the Abbey going for some time. I quite like the idea of this competition as it's somewhat more engaging than trying to launch a rocket into space - not that I'm saying that was easy or dull - it's just that there are a much wider array of skills required to not only get a rocket into space but land it on the moon, engage a rover, move it around, and gather telemetry. The official competition guidelines state: COMPETITION GUIDELINES: To win the Google Lunar X PRIZE, a team must successfully land a privately funded craft on the lunar surface and survive long enough to complete the mission goals of roaming about the lunar surface for at least 500 meters and sending a defined data package, called a “Mooncast”, back to Earth. Dark Lunar Eclipse - NASA’s APOD
Explanation: The Moon passed close to the center of Earth’s shadow on August 28th. Seen best by skywatchers in western North America, and the Pacific region, the resulting total lunar eclipse was a dark one, lasting about 90 minutes. In this telescopic image taken near mid totality from Yass, NSW Australia, the 85 kilometer wide ray crater Tycho lies near the top right of the shadowed lunar surface. Of course, even during a total lunar eclipse, the Moon is not completely dark. Instead the Moon remains visible during totality, reflecting reddened light filtering into the Earth’s shadow. The light comes from all the sunsets and sunrises, as seen from the lunar perspective, around the edges of a silhouetted Earth. originally at NASA.

The amazing sight from behind the Harbour Bridge Australia IT shone a beautiful deep red in the sky last night as the sun, moon and earth aligned for a total lunar eclipse. While lunar eclipses occur at least twice a year somewhere in the world, the last time a total eclipse was visible from Australia’s eastern states was in July 2000. If you missed out the next blood moon will be visible about 11.45pm on December 10, 2011. (more…)

Eclipse Lunar... pra quem perdeu tá aí a foto
Eis a foto do nosso satélite a caminho do eclipse total. Full Lunar Eclipse (August 28, 2007)
Yours truly stayed up all night to watch and make pictures of the Lunar eclipse. It was gorgeous! I took my 15×60 binoculars, Canon 20D camera with tripod and 300mm zoom image-stabilizing lens, and went out to the warm summer night. The eclipse began a little later then predicted. At 12:52am there was nothing but a dark blur over the upper-left side. So I went indoors for another 30 minutes. Good idea since sprinklers came on. I came back out with all the gear at around 1:30am and began to shoot pictures. You can see the entire album here: http://public.fotki.com/MaxiMovieBlog/lunar-eclipse/ including bad ones. I thought I’d include them too in case you want to learn from my mistakes. Feel free to leave your comments, but be nice! I was playing with the camera trying different settings and trying with or without ND filter and circular polarizer. In the beginning of the eclipse the moon was still very bright, and all pictures were not coming out well: the moon was a bright

Web: Lunar EmbassyIdioma: Ingles

A Spectacular Lunar Eclipse Awaits Us This Evening
Photo: Charles PfeilTonight's the night when I must stay up late because I don't want to miss the TOTAL lunar eclipse beginning around midnight on Maui. The Moon is supposed to turn a reddish-coppery color when it passes between the Earth's umbral shadow during this eclipse, and from beginning to end, the eclipse will last about an hour and a half.Stargazing, observing eclipses, and watching planes take-off are three things I absolutely love! How about you?

Total Lunar Eclipse to Occur on Tuesday
Path of the Moon through Earth's umbral and penumbral shadowsduring the Total Lunar Eclipse of Aug. 28, 2007.(Pacific Daylight Time)A total eclipse of the Moon occurs during the early morning of Tuesday, August 28, 2007. The event is widely visible from the United States and Canada as well as South America, the Pacific Ocean, western Asia and Australia. During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon's disk can take on a dramatically colorful appearance from bright orange to blood red to dark brown and (rarely) very dark gray. An eclipse of the Moon can only take place at Full Moon, and only if the Moon passes through some portion of Earth's shadow. The shadow is actually composed of two cone-shaped parts, one nested inside the other. The outer shadow or penumbra is a zone where Earth blocks some (but not all) of the Sun's rays. In contrast, the inner shadow or umbra is a region where Earth blocks all direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.READ THE REST OF THE STORY

Keep your eyes to the sky for a lunar eclipse extraordinaire
Now, I’m not as certified space mad as our resident space cadet (you know who you are), but I do find space entirely fascinating, mysterious and enthralling. It’s the whole ‘unexplored expanse’ thing that gets me. I still remember my dad (ever the adventurer) standing on the lawn with us in 1986 - I’d heaved my gumboots on to gaze skyward, neck aching, hoping to catch a glimpse of Haley’s Comet. To this day, I’m not sure I did actually see the comet (it might have been a smudgy star and it was a cloudy night), but it’s a great memory for what it’s worth. For those of you who share a curiosity about the universe, you’ll be rapt to hear that… A lunar eclipse will be visible from New Zealand on August 28th! A lunar eclipse is when the Earth passes between the sun and the moon. When this happens, the sun’s light can’t reach the moon’s surface and the moon enters the Earth’s shadow. Cool, eh? Keep you

Moonlight can provide a significant amount of illumination, depending on the particular phase. The Civil Twilight Design Collective proposes this Bright IdeaSpark: streetlights that detect the amount of moonlight present, and then dim themselves accordingly. This concept, along with using LEDs, will be 90% more energy efficient than regular streetlights. The CTDC website here; via SciFiTech. *

China to Launch Lunar Satellite in September
The Chinese space program plans on launching a lunar satellite later this yearThe ambitious Chinese space program plans to launch the Chang'e 1 orbiter in September -- the first of three steps towards having moon samples brought back to Earth. Assuming the Chang'e 1 is able to successfully orbit the moon, it will then be sent on a mission to land on one of several designated zones of the lunar surface. Officials hope Chang'e will send 3D images of the moon's surface back to Earth, along with studying lunar microwaves and estimating the thickness of soil on the moon's surface.Phase one of the mission is to launch the probe to orbit the moon, which will take place later this year; phase two is to land on the lunar surface to take samples of the lunar surface; in phase three, another orbiter will land and take lunar and soil samples before heading back to Earth. The moon rover mission would be launched in 2012, assuming everything else goes according to plan."The moon probe project is

      best brands - Lunar
Another great Spring 2007 collection was from South African designer Karen Ter Morshuizen for Lunar. You won't find clothes much dreamier or floaty than these. They look really pure. This brand has been around since the mid-90s, and is really quite natural-looking, with plenty of texture yet the colours are very simple and not at all busy. This makes it look luxurious and contemporary, without appearing too trendy (a good thing).

My First Lunar New Year Dinner
After being deprived of a decent Lunar New Year dinner for my first two years here in Singapore (I had to do the graveyard shift at the animal hospital, FOR TWO YEARS IN A ROW!!!), I finally had the chance to toss the yusheng when I joined my girlfriend's family's New Year's eve dinner. (",)No Chinese New Year feast is complete without the colorful yusheng. Literally means "raw fish," yusheng is a Chinese-style salad usually taken to usher the Lunar New Year as it symbolises abundance, prosperity and vigor. It usually consists of strips of raw fish (most commonly salmon), mixed with shredded vegetables and a variety of sauces and condiments, among other ingredients. It is a custom for families and friends to gather around the table and, on cue, proceeding to toss the shredded ingredients into the air, as high as they can, with chopsticks while saying auspicious words and phrases out loud to mark the start of a prosperous new year. What followed doesn't need much elaboration. Total Lunar Eclipse From 03/03/07
On March 3rd of this year 2007, there was a full lunar eclipse visible from the UK, and Northern Europe. This video shows the process of the moon being first covered and then revealed into full sunlight again. It was pretty spectacular and this guy has done a very good job of taking the video footage and editing it down to a short 3 minute YouTube clip. The whole thing started at about 10:30pm and went on until about 3am the next morning. Sometimes I think we forget how spectacular and beautiful nature can be, and this is proff of it once again. Even the fact or coincedence that the moon is exactly the right amount smaller than the sun relative to our position so that they fit perfectly is mindblowing. There have been alot of people asking about the music used, so to save you the trouble, it’s Samuel Barber’s ‘Adagio For Strings’ which has also been remixed by various DJs and used in ‘The Matrix’ films. Thorpe Park, London Chinese Food, and Lunar Eclipses
flangracneig pgoramian When we arrived at London, I had a scary moment whereby I dropped my mobile phone and it skidded nearly onto the underground track. However, it didn’t. Han was a little later than me (the first time I’ve beaten Han anywhere, a point that amused me for about 10 minutes) so I spent my time finding out where the hotel was, and sure enough we found it. The hotel was lovely, with hard floors, huge marble bathroom (which, we found that it was not designed for practicality, as the sink was a bugger to get clean) and Andy Warhol esque paintings on the wall. The view from the window was over an industrial estate, but it didn’t matter, as we saw a giant Mobli. After watching some TV, we went down to get some food, me to get a beer (they had Boddies on tap!), and Han to get her internet fix. The food was nice (well, I liked my dish, Han wasn’t to keen on hers), and we had a few drinks and ordered room service (which I had to get), before going t
