I hate when I’m working, and someone calls me and I’m on the phone for an hour. It kills my mood to work. It makes me sleepier and lazier than I already am. It grinds all of my functioning intellectual processes to a halt, leaving me a lump of something. That something on the ground you see when you’re out for a morning jog and you see a lump on the ground and you maybe glance at it or even examine it as you pass by, and you can’t figure out what it is. Yeah, that’s me right now.
I have emailed questions to answer at some point, but I’ve got to talk about Amy Winehouse in a minute I suppose because she apparently got herself arrested for having half a ton of coke in her beehive or something probably, and MSNBC just stirred a rant in me as they’re opt to do. No, it’s not Contessa Brewer’s fault this time.
Did you know that officials in Aruba have officially dropped the Natalie Holloway case? Yeah, it was breaking news this mor
If you find a breast mass or lump, you should schedule an appointment with your health care provider who will do a breast examination to check your breasts for irregularities, dimpling, tightened skin, lumps, inflamed or tender areas, and nipple discharge. The areas of each breast and underarms will be examined. * If your provider finds a lump at this time, you may have a re-examination in two to three weeks. If it is still present, then your doctor may recommend some further testing. The ideal time for the breast examination is seven to nine days after your period. * If the physical examination is normal and no mass is found, laboratory and imaging tests are not usually necessary in women younger than 35 years. Women older than 35 years should probably still have a mammogram unless they have had a mammogram in the past 12 months. o Mammography is an x-ray technique that looks for changes in the breast. These appear as changes in the shape of the breast or calcifications
Time for another freak-out visit to the vet! Topanga has developed some sort of hard lump in her right hip. It's utterly confounded the vet. "It's not like a regular tumor- those don't usually hurt." Ergh. I'm trying to not freak out too much, but that is hard. "IT IS PROBABLY NOTHING." That is what the rational part of my brain is saying, very loudly. Loudly doesn't mean authoritatively, though. Some thrilling life I lead, huh? Er, what I meant to say was: after my day job of super top secret espionage, writing, painting, and sewing, I went hunting for some elves. I caught a pixie instead, and what a headache that was! Then I ate an entire pie, and saved an entire burrow of bunnies from ravenous wolves. Well, at least the pie part is accurate. Call your health care provider as soon as you feel any suspicious lump. You should also consult your doctor if you detect a significant change while doing a monthly breast self-exam. * Breast lumps ideally should be checked about one week after your period starts. Fibrocystic changes in the breast are usually irregular and mobile, and you may find more than one lump. Cancerous tumors are usually hard and firm and do not typically move a great deal. * Call your health care provider if you experience the following: o You have any abnormal discharge from your nipples. o Breast pain is making it difficult for you to function each day. o You have prolonged, unexplained breast pain. o You have any other associated symptoms that you are worried about. You should see a doctor if you experience any changes in your breasts. + Redness + Swelling + Pain, especially pain that interferes with nursing
# Breast lump: Although alarming when you find one, most breast lumps are not cancer.# Breast pain: Most commonly associated with fibrocystic changes, pain may occur in both breasts, though one may be more painful than the other. With fibrocystic changes, the pain occurs about a week before your menstrual period. The pain usually goes away gradually with the onset of your period. * Cyclic breast pain is typically most severe before your period and gets better during your period. o It is usually described as bilateral (in both breasts), in the upper outer areas of your breast, and is often associated with lumpiness. o Women tend to describe this pain as dull, aching, heavy, or sore, and it can radiate to your armpit or even down your arm. o The intensity of pain can vary widely with the range of severity from mild to severe enough to limit clothing selections, sleep positions, or hugging. * Noncyclic breast pain is ty
Many possible causes exist for pain or tenderness in one of your breasts or in both breasts. Most often the pain can be attributed to harmless causes such as puberty or pregnancy. It can also be a recurrent problem for women with cyclical pain associated with the menstrual cycle. Although cancer is a major concern for most women, it is rarely the cause of isolated breast pain. * Some causes of breast pain are: o Fibrocystic breast disease o Premenstrual syndrome, cyclic mastalgia o Normal hormonal fluctuations o Onset of puberty or menopause o Pregnancy o Breastfeeding (nursing) o Estrogen therapy o Chest wall tenderness (costochondritis) o Injury to the breast (trauma, after breast surgery o Shingles (pain is only in 1 breast, usually accompanied by a rash) o Use of certain medications such as digoxin (Lanoxin), methyldopa (Aldomet), spironolactone (Aldactone), oxymetholone
Breast changes are common. From the time a girl begins to develop breasts and begins menstruating and throughout life, women may experience various kinds of breast pain and other breast changes. Some of these changes normally occur during the menstrual cycle, during pregnancy, and with aging. Breast lumps, tenderness, and other changes may occur. Most breast lumps and other changes are not cancer. Your breast is composed of several glands and ducts that lead to the nipple and the surrounding colored area called the areola. The milk-carrying ducts extend from the nipple into the underlying breast tissue like the spokes of a wheel. Under the areola are lactiferous ducts. These fill with milk during lactation after a woman has a baby. When a girl reaches puberty, changing levels of hormones cause the ducts to grow and cause fat deposits in the breast tissue to increase. The glands that produce milk (mammary glands) that are connected to the surface of the breast by the lactif
They are soooooooo not lovely either!! Well I got my Octreotide Scans results back today and it wasn't what I was expecting. The cancer is definately back on the left side of my neck and coming back in the right side also known as there was definate uptake on the left and mild on the right. I expected that though and knew someday it would come back. I really didn't expect it this soon though so that kinda sucks. *sigh*The part I didn't expect is that there is a questionable spot on the scan behind my right breast and also two more in my heart. Yeah, a little scary. I figured I would go in and hear that NOTHING lit up and just go on with what to do with this lymph node that is pushing on my artery. So much for thinking right? It's not time to worry yet because the spots in my chest and heart very well might be nothing. That's what getting more scans is going to find out.So I have to have three scans done- a CT Scan of my neck and chest, an Ultrasound of my chest, and an Ultrasound
Of Lumps, Bumps And Breast Cancer by: Charlene J. Nuble You feel a mild soreness in the breast so you checked for lumps. You felt a little bump. The next best step is to consult a doctor, you might have breast cancer. Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts from the cells of the breast. Breast cancer occurs mainly in women but this does not mean that men are safe from this disease.A woman's breast is made up of lobules, which are glands that make the milk; ducts, which connect lobules to the nipples; fat and connective tissues; blood vessels; and lymph vessels. Most breast cancers begin in the ducts. It may also begin in the lobules then spread to other tissues. When one feels a lump in the breast, there is really no virtual worry because most lumps are benign which means that they are not cancerous. In fact, benign breast tumors are abnormal growths but do not really pose threats because they do not spread outside of the breast. However, some benign lumps incr
Get the Jump on the Lumps....'Does this Double Quarter Pounder with cheese make me look fat?' 'How about the super size fries and the sundae?' Uhhh....do I really have to answer that? How about picking up a new habit or two BEFORE the ball drops and the confetti flies?Try this: Just make a promise to yourself to hop up on that treadmill tomorrow! Or the elliptical. Go buy yourself a Wii system and start smacking some imaginary tennis balls. Or maybe just skip that fatty lunch you usually have, and take a nice, long walk on your break, picking up a couple apples or a banana somewhere along your stroll. Top that off with a pint of milk or soy milk, with maybe some oat bran pretzels for the munchies, and I swear...you just might feel full. The thing is, you don't have to wait for the New Year to begin your resolution to knock off a few. Truth is, the sooner you start, the easier it will be to adhere to your bold, new plan. Instead of using the year's end holidays as an excuse
