Lost Odyssey for the Xbox 360 looks more ambitious than most RPG’s on the market. However, looks aren’t everything. Once you discover the game’s deeply flawed combat system and bland storyline, you’ll question if it’s a journey worth taking. Lengthy fights and a simple point system mangle the significant magic powers and battle system. The [...]

Before starting this review, I should state that this is the first JRPG (Japanese role playing game) I’ve ever spent more than 30 minutes on. I was too young to get onto the Final Fantasy bandwagon, and by the time I approached my mid-teens, my gaming tastes had been locked into a [...]

Posted by:Kal Phew, it’s been a while since I last posted anything of importance because, of course, we are smack-dab in the middle of the spring semester at college. And I have about had it up to here with the amount of crap I should be doing all time. While on the drive home yesterday I was like “Hey I should post a blog entry” and there has been a lot of talk about this new game called Lost Odyssey, so I began some digging up some information (while I was procrastinating on reading my textbooks) about this new and interesting game. Sadly little has been released about the game’s story other than who the characters are and that some never die. The game is called Lost Odyssey and is based on a man named Kaim, who has lived for 1000 years. He has seen everything and done
According to GameZone Microsoft yesterday announced that “Lost Odyssey,” the exciting next-gen RPG available exclusively on Xbox 360, is now available at U.S. retailers. Created by famed game producer Hironobu Sakaguchi of Mistwalker game studio in conjunction with Microsoft Game Studios, this new xbox 360 game title is available for an ESRP of $59.99 and rated “T” for Teen. Take up arms and summon your courage to help the immortal Kaim and his friends discover secrets of the past in time to change an uncertain future. With the emotional story sequences written by award-winning Japanese novelist Kiyoshi Shigematsu, incredible cinematics inspired by renowned Japanese comic artist Takehiko Inoue and realistic graphics, “Lost Odyssey” is truly a work of next-gen RPG art. To furthe
IGN has received a preview copy of the final build of Lost Odyssey and they are not impressed.
In the six hours that I’ve played so far, Lost Odyssey has been a technical mess, with framerate problems in just about every cinema and on most maps, an animation system that looks like it was ported straight from a PS2 engine, and frequent, inconsistent load times accompanied by visual stuttering as new data loads in.
This was another title that Microsoft was really hoping would help to turn the tide in Japan but once again it looks like they will fall short.

[Thanks to ocelot for the tip]

The opening for Lost Odyssey has been revealed and boy is it beautiful! And I don’t just mean beautiful graphically, in fact that’s not what I mean at all, but musically! You’ll see when you watch the video but this is just what the Xbox 360 needs, and the music in this intro is so good it nearly brings tears to my eyes. If this is anywhere close to what the rest of the game sounds like then it looks to me that Nobuo Uematsu easily has one of his best soundtracks to date. Watch the beautiful intro to Lost Odyssey below.
Lost Odyssey has a release date of February 8th 2007 in Japan and February 2008 in the US and Europe.

Whew, talk about a long title for a post. Mistwalker’s Hironobu Sakaguchi has recently attended a convention in Paris, spilling some good news pre-E3. Firstly, Blue Dragon demo will be coming out July 20th, with a size of just over a gig, promising TWO HOURS worth of content. Good good times. Just make sure to nab it before August 3rd, as at that time it will no longer be available.
Lost Odyssey is, to quote Blimblim of Xboxyde “..about 80 % done and will be finished in about 3 months, they are now working on the game balance. It will be released at the end of the year in Japan and in the english speaking countries (USA and UK too), but the other territories will have to wait until a few weeks later in Q1 2008.” 2 months ago it was stated that Lost Odyssey was 70% done, so they sure are working quick (link). Blimblim also states he will be posting a short interview with Sakaguchi sometime this afternoon, so keep an eye out for that.
