Basically, early retirees are able to forgo getting the newest Lexus for a 3 year old Honda or are wi

The rich got richer in the 2008 NFL Draft as many of the teams with the highest marks in my book were also teams that went deep into the playoffs in 2007 and look to be there again in 2008 with an infusion of NFL ready young talent. Here is how I graded out the NFC:The winners:Dallas Cowboys: A The Cowboys come up a winner in the 2008 draft in part because they obtained an additional 1st round pick from Cleveland for the acquisition of Brady Quinn last year. The Cowboys made the most of their fortune by grabbing a great complimentary back in Felix Jones even though Rashard Mendenhall was still on the board. I think Dallas went into this draft targeting Jones because he would be a great second punch after Marion Barber. Questions about Mendenhall being a 1 year wonder may have crept into th

Smut and porn are degrading and those that peddle them are degrading themselves.Even those that peddle smut and porn must feel dirty, low, despicable and ashamed. If this were not true, why do they use phony names, locations and pirated email addresses and domains? Plus, the life and times of those in the porn industry is one of pain and tragedy. Those that put money above principle always lose. All the material acquisition, products or services this world has to offer will not change this rea

One more week (and one game tonight) is all that is keeping us from the final 12 in the National Football League. Yes, the playoffs are closing in, and with it we have some teams that had their own hands around their necks on Sunday, while other teams took advantage of it. With that, here are our winners and losers for week 16.
Winners

The Titans & Redskins - Easy one here, as these two teams put themselves in a great position for the final week of the regular season - win and your in. Now they could get in still with some help if they lose, but after coming up big and getting help Sunday, this is the position you want to be in. Plus, both teams will play teams (Indy and Dallas) that will be sitting plenty of starters, so there’s no reason for them to lose.
Losers

The Browns and Vikings - Both these teams played as tight as could be, and both now might as well book New Year’s plans. The Browns had the

In a year marked by more frequent (and blatant) attempts by humanity to climb into the handbasket on an express route to Hell, certain entities and personalities stood out from the pack. We thank those below who made this list possible. MTV - Once the bastion of mainstream coolness, the network that brought you just about everything you grew up on died and was replaced by a stream of infomercials for the "Rich White Kid" lifestyle. Tila Tequila gets a dating show while Radiohead puts an album out for free. WTF, MTV? Justin Timberlake was right - you do need to start showing more videos, especially if you wanna keep that "M" in front of your name. And just when Hip-Hop had forgotten how you ignored it for a good part of the 80's, you relegate Kanye West - an artist who appeals across virtually all of your carefully research demographics - in a glorified bungalow at the VMAs while setting Britney Spears up to fail in front of the world.&n

One of the thankful survivors was a successful San Diego investor who, in turn, volunteered to save Town's financial future by teaching him the ropes of investing.Blending Zen with Wall Street, Town's anyone-can-do-this advice, in his best-seller "Rule #1," amounts to: Don't lose money, find great companies, know their worth and acquire them at 50 percent off. Beyond that, he says the traditional advice -- invest in mutual funds, diversify, buy and hold -- is strictly for losers.Let's cut to the chase: What's wrong with mutual funds?First, if you intend to stay ignorant about investing, if you don'

Reports are now coming in from the Values Voter Summit this weekend, and it appears that we have some winners (Romney and Huckabee) and losers (Giuliani and Thompson) in the contest to pander to the fundy crowd. It sounds like Mitt Romney excelled at telling Christian extremist voters exactly what they wanted to hear, well except for the whole Mormon thing which he still considers to be a non-issue. Romney won the straw poll, with Huckabee, often considered to be a favorite among Christian fundamentalists, placing second. This is an impressive win for Romney, as Huckabee is sounding more and more like the sort of theocrat these folks are seeking:He called for a constitutional amendment declaring marriage to be between a man and a woman and decried the "holocaust of liberalized abortion.""We do not have the right to move the standards of God to meet cultural norms. We need to move the cultural norms to meet God's standards," he said, bringing the crowd to its feet.Fred Thompson, on the
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – When it came to media from a kids-and-family perspective this year, there was good, there was bad, and there was truly ugly.
Common Sense Media, the nation’s leading nonpartisan organization dedicated to giving parents the tools and information they need to make sure that they – and not the media – remain the primary influence on their kids’ lives, today released its list of the 2007 Common Sense Media Award winners and losers.
“Our winners get an ‘ONnie’ award for bringing us great, family-friendly entertainment, and providing leadership on kids and media issues,” said Common Sense Media CEO James Steyer. “Our losers get an ‘OFFul’ award for contributing to a 24/7 media landscape filled with anti-role models and mixed messages, ultimately making it harder for parents to raise their kids the way they want.”
The complete list of award winners and losers is as follows: Common Sen

I'm not sure. But the difference is that we have ten beautiful men standing out front instead of last year's twenty sexy dudes. I take one look at these guys and I'm instantly glad I tuned in.Then we cut to a shot of New York in a Rela
There were too big Republican losers of the week, Rush Limbaugh, John McCain, and Rudy Giuliani. Limbaugh called soldiers who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq “phony soldiers.” This is consistent with the intolerance of dissent and knee jerk support for Republican policies he has displayed in the past, but following the over-reaction to the MoveOn ad it was inevitable that there would be considerable reaction to his latest comment.
Many of the conservative bloggers who participated in the distortion of comments from John Kerry, such as claiming his joke about George Bush getting us stuck in Iraq was actually a slur on the troops, are now claiming Limbaugh’s statement was taken out of context. This argument doesn’t hold up after reading the actual transcript. Limbaugh tried to strengthen this argument by releasing an edited transcript, but this was exposed by Media Matters. Many liberal bloggers, such as Army of Dude, presented examples to counter Limbaugh&rsqu

By Sayed IslamSince I like ending on a high note, (like George Costanza from Seinfeld) I will begin with the losers. The loser had to be Nintendo hands down. With the exception of Mario Galaxy, there was no original content. There were 2 new peripherals: zapper and Wii fit. That's it. No new innovative games were displayed. It was a shameless self-promotion.The entire press conference consisted of praising the Wii. That's a shame (another Seinfeld reference for you Seinfeld fanatics). Nintendo merely accentuated what they achieved; however, they did not say what they will accomplish. Microsoft was neither a winner or a loser; there were in between. They showed 2 noteworthy demos at their press conference which were Assassin's Creed and Madden 2008. I am not exactly sure why Reggie Bush was demonstrating Madden 2008 because Vince Young was the cover athlete, but that is a separate issue altogether. Furthermore, both of those games were multi-platform. The only 2 exclusive games that M
Yesterday as I suffered through the heat of the valley I stepped into Urban Outfitters with the hopes of finding very cold air conditioning. I found air, not as cold as I had hoped, and I also found a bunch of crappy merchandise, poser shoppers and a staff that had as much fashion sense as Kathy Griffin. Ive always felt that the "Urban look" was precisely manufactured and yesterday my beliefs were at an all time high. The poser store has taken it to new heights. For many of us Urban is another Forever 21 or H&M, a place to pick up copies of the hottest designers however to many others Urban Outfitters is the losers guide to being trendy. Urban tries so hard that they have teamed up with The Cobrasnake for what you may wonder? To sell losers a look. Sorry Mark but you are officially a sell out. How can you claim to be a "hipster" and support a store that creates cultural wannabes? I guess from your standpoint its all very flattering that they want to use you as an outlet to provide "a
The Eagles lost to the New Orleans Saints in the NFC divisional playoffs the night earlier, a sour ending to a season when the Eagles won their final five regular-season games and the NFC East title and topped the New York Giants in the first round of the playoffs.Head coach Andy Reid provided the usual end-of-season talk about how he's proud of the players and it was a good season. But then he added a different spin to the Eagles' leap from 6-10 in 2005 to 10-6 in 2006."You wanted to get things changed around this year, or you're dealing with two [draft] classes of players that had not had success," Reid said in January. "That becomes very difficult to change around. The guys that were here last year, that's all that they knew in the NFL."Those "guys" Reid was referring to were the Eagles' 2005 draft class, one that came following a Super Bowl appearance and finished its first season with a losing record. The Eagles have five listed starters from the Class of 2005: defensive tackl
I’m sure the title’s got your attention - probably not used to seeing Tim Horton’s or Starbucks beside the word “losers”. For those of you don’t know Tim Horton’s, you’re definitely not Canadian. Tim Horton’s, rather “Tims” (as it is affectionately known in Canada), is Canada’s largest fast food chain. Now you’re probably wondering why then I’m calling it a loser.
The coffee and doughnut chain (thus it’s comparison with Starbucks) said Friday that second-quarter profit fell 12%, despite higher revenue, because of a higher tax rate. Owned by U.S. fast food chain Wendy’s International, Tim Hortons said it earned $67.2-million ($63.4-million USD), or 36 cents a share; which is down from a profit of $76.3-million, or 39 cents, in the year-before period. The company is looking to push its stores south of the border, where it faces stiff competition and lack of brand recognition.

Don't look now, but the Chicago Cubs are making a push at the playoffs. They lost tonight, and Milwaukee jumped back into first place, but for a brief two-day window, the Cubs were in first place. The city of Chicago was in pandemonium. Callers lit up the phone lines on The Score, and fans starting making plans for playoff tickets. Lou Piniella, the level-headed guy that he is, found this type of behavior foolish. Yes, Lou Piniella acted as the voice of reason. After all, he told us, its only the beginning of August, there's a long way to go, this is no big deal. But when the Chicago Cubs are in first place this late in the season, it IS a big deal. Sweet Lou doesn't get it, because he doesn't understand the culture of losing, he doesn't buy into it. In his world, first place on the first day of August really isn't anything to get excited about. And thats the reason the Cubs are winning. Piniella doesn't buy into that lovable loser crap. In the past, when the Cubs were bad (much
My words of wisdom tonight after a ridiculously long afternoon in court with the boys was "If your going to act like losers than society is going to treat you like losers with a capital L . This was followed by a "Matthewism" of , "If you want to get technical it's a capital K." I stood there staring at him for a few minutes unsure of what he was trying to get at. Suddenly he just says , never mind I was thinking of something else. Of course my inquiring mind stayed tuned to that all the while I prepared dinner. Just what word was he thinking of that's similar to loser that begins with a K ? The results of today's preliminary hearing was that both boys remain on house arrest until the next hearing on August 15th. A court officer will be making unannounced visits. What's killing them more is our taking away their phone and computer privileges. Like they really thought I'd be letting them sit in the house and have fun ?
WINNERSPortland TrailblazersSo obviously they are huge winners in getting Oden but they really took it a step further. I absolutely love the deal they swung with the Knicks sending Zack Randolph out East for Steve Francis (once dubbed "Franchise") and Channing Frye. Francis will start at PG while Frye adds depth to the front court. Even though Randolph is a great player he was going to get logjammed with Aldridge and Oden so that was a great move. Portland's starting 5 will be young and tremendous next year and for years to come. This is what I'm looking at for their starting 5: Francis, Roy, Aldridge, Oden, and maybe Frye or Jack. Plus they'll have great youth on the bench with (like I said either Frye or Jack) plus Rudy Fernandez (like him), Taurian Green, and McRoberts. Basically I want to know if it is too late to be a Trailblazers fan? Seattle Super SonicsOnce again they would be winners for the sole fact of just getting Durant. However, they got much much more. How they were a

The Knicks have announced they will open next year’s preseason at Madison Square Garden against Israeli powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv. This is a great move for Isiah and the Knicks. They can’t possibly set the bar any lower than losing the opening game of their season to a Euroleague team.

–The auction house that offered $1 million for Barry Bonds 756th home run ball has rescinded the offer. The reason given was that it doesn’t want to create a dangerous situation at AT&T Park, but that looks like it might just be a phony excuse. According to this report, it’s likely that the auction house just wanted free publicity and never

So far, the Presidential debates have been a HUGE waste of time. Watching a group of Old White Men trying to go further to the Right than one another is flat out ridiculous and I’d rather watch a dog go to the bathroom in public. I mean, Rep. Tancredo stating, live on TV, that the day Roe v Wade is made null and void would be the “greatest day in American History” made me want to kick my cat. Sure, the signing of the Declaration of Independence was swell and all, but Abortion trumps that in his mind. What an idiot.
On the other side, watching the multi-cultural elite of the Democratic Party compare resumes and reflect where they were the day the recount started while offering no real solutions to the current quagmire makes me long for the days when the East Germans won all those gold medals. Tell me there’s another way? Oh wait…what about this!
I recently read that Current NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg (R, formerly D) is willing to spend $1 BILLION dollars of his OWN money on an
While trolling Google to find if anything has said anything about me recently (hey, I’m a writer, it’s something we do), I found an interesting blog post that directly referenced Toy Bender. The post was titled “Why I Hate Toy Collectors and Toy Traffickers” so I had to bear down before I read it, because a name like that makes me think I might be going through the wringer like in high school gym class. Yep, believe it or not I wasn’t a big jock back in the old high school days! I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it wasn’t an all out attack on me or toy collectors in general. Instead, it was a well put together reason for why this person doesn’t like us. By the way, I have no idea who wrote this as there aren’t any bylines associated with any of the posts on the site.
From the site:
He recently posted an article called “Toy Collecting is for Losers: Defending Toy Collecting.” The article is about how toy collectors are not a
Three Biggest Draft Losers in the NFC2007-nfl-draftBy James Polifroni3. SeahawksThe Seahawks did not select until the second round, 55th overall. With that, they took speedy cornerback Josh Wilson out of Maryland. Wilson did run a great 40 at the combine, but besides being a potential help to their return game, the former Terp will not give enough help in the defensive backfield to warrant a team’s first overall selection. For personal reasons, I followed Maryland football for the past two seasons. Besides one impressive kick return this past year against Clemson, Wilson rarely demonstrated the speed that his sub 4.4 40-time would suggest. Seattle is in need of playmakers on the defensive side of the ball, and with only two interceptions his senior year and four in total, I don’t know if Wilson will provide them with the big plays they need. I think Marcus McCauley, who is a local kid from Fresno State, would have been a more logical selection at this point.Another possible disappoi
As a way to follow tradition (and earn the show a bit more money, since its struggling heavily in that department), American Idol is launching its annual Idols Live tour this summer. It will include the remaining final four contestants as well as Sanjaya Malakar, Haley Scarnato, Gina Glocksen, Chris Sligh, and just-booted boys Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson
As a toy collector, I’ll admit there are a lot of my fellow collectors out there that drive me nuts. They really don’t anything to give the rest of us, or “the normals”, a good name. A friend of mine named Jacob shared this video with me, which is an example of toy collectors gone wrong:
When defending toy collectors recently, I tried to get across the point that a lot of us are normal types that have lives and aren’t ultra troll like. Sadly, there are collectors out that that like to enforce the socially abnormal stereotypes by being… well, socially abnormal. With that being said I’m going to do my best not to knock the guy in this video. I don’t know him, maybe he’s a really nice person. Hell, I’m a fairly sensitive guy myself so I wouldn’t want any random jackhole with a blog tearing me to pieces. However, this video really doesn’t do him or toy collectors any justice. When fighting stereotypes of toy collec
