Prevent GNOME Do from Popping Up at Logon [Linux Tip] The Digi.Wander.Lust blog posts a handy tip for users of Linux application launcher GNOME Do but finds its default pop-up at logon a bit annoying. If you're rocking an Ubuntu system, head to the "Sessions" item in your "Preferences" menu, select GNOME Do and hit edit, then add —quiet (use two dashes, as shown in the pic) to the "Command" field (or edit whatever auto-launcher brings up GNOME Do in other distributions). It's a nice way to save a click and ensure a clean logon screen. Some Windows XP computers have multiple users, each with their own login name. When these systems boot, a list of users is displayed on the logon screen. The person logging in clicks their name and is then asked to enter their password. This would be more secure if they were forced to enter their username manually instead of clicking it from a list. This would reduce the potential risk of unauthorized entry because a hacker would not have easy access to a list of valid account names. This is only really important for multi-user XP machines in public places. Here are the instructions, step-by-step, for changing the logon screen to the more secure classic mode:Click 'Start'. Click 'Control Panel'. Double-click 'User Accounts'.Click 'Change the way users log on or o
By Kok Choon Kow From time to time, you will notice your Vista logon became slower and slower until it almost freezes! Because you installed too many start up programs, such as the anti virus, anti spyware, dictionary, memory optimizer, Skype, messenger and other gadgets... You know you should minimize the start up programs, but there are just too many to keep, what should you do?There are 2 ways to solve this problem:Method #1 - You do not activate them until you need it. Go to Windows menu, type "msconfig" then enter to activate System Configuration, select "Startup" tab and uncheck as many programs as possible. However, the fact is you need most of them, and they are there for some reasons!Method #2 - Lower the priority of start up programsUse the command below:C:\Windows\System32\ cmd.
Windows XP automatic logon is mainly for people who know what a network infrastructure is, however you rocket scientists out there can use this one at home also.

If you do not like the Windows Vista logon screen, but would instead like to enable the XP kind of, classic logon screen (esp if you are security conscious), where all user accounts are hidden from the Welcome screen and both a username and a password are required to log on, then do this:
It is useful when you want to share files with other computers. Others need to know your account name and password that they must put it in when they want to download files or access to your computer. You should not give your password to others anyway that will make your computer unprivate. However, this computer tip teaches you to logon to Windows XP automatically without filling in your account name and your secret password. This is also available for others who want to access to your computer to get files and documents, they do not have to fill in your password too. Therefore this tip benefits you to conceal your Windows logon password without depending upon any software. Take the easiest way by Windows Registry. I caught this via Steve Clayton (who caught it via Jeff Sandquist showing off his home) - Stardock has a really neat application called LogonStudio that allows you to change the background of your logon screen in Windows Vista. I absolutely love the space background.
LogonStudio is available as a free download and also allows you to create your own backgrounds as well as download logon backgrounds via Stardock's WinCustomize Gallery too. Folks who create their own backgrounds can submit them to the WinCustomize Gallery. Give it a try. Let me know what you think.
Windows Logon Screen is something many people doesn't like but just go with it as many don't know how to change it, for this there are two methods, I prefer the second one as it is more easy and but first one is a bit lengthy process, there is no harm in using any of the method but firstly you need to create a logonui.exe.here we go....first, get a program like regedit (Google it)look for logonui.exe in your windows/system32 folder.MAKE A COPY OF THIS FILE AND PUT IT IN YOUR ROOT FOLDER FOR EASY ACCESS!!!!open it with regedit or another registry key editor, and look around in it. if you want to spend hours painstakingly figuring out how to edit it on your own, be my guest. I haven't bothered even doing that yet... just go to http://www.themexp.org/ and you can find tons of custom themes. After you have downloaded your new logon screen, put that somewhere safe, and name it logonui.exe. DON'T try and copy it onto your real logonui while still in the windows envornment!Method I:- You c

Follwing my recent post about removing or disabling the Ease of Access Icon, located in the lower left hand corner of the Windows Vista login screen. I just found an article titled “Windows Vista - Backdoor Logon” which exlains to you a method which you can use to exploit the ‘Ease of Access’ menu at the bottom of a regular Windows Vista Logon.
Normally, if you click the Icon then you get a choice of help from Narrator, Magnifier and High Contrast. The trick is to replace the file called Magnify.exe, with a file which is really cmd.exe.
Once you make the change, then when you select Magnifier from the Ease of Access dialog box, you enter the operating system at the command prompt. The result is you can logon as the System account, without the need of a password. However one of the limitations that exsist is that your shell program is cmd.exe rather than explorer. Though a more serious limitation is that in order to enter via this backdoor, you would
Seems that its not just me that can’t logon to Sitemeter. No doubt they’ve had a system crash and have lost all their statistics which are not very accurate to start with.
And I thought they were trying to get me to upgrade to a paid version. Fat chance.
Was having problems with the XP screen saver, tied to a password. Just didn’t seem to work for several days but now does after having run SFC from the command line. Heaven knows why these things happen. Its not a control that I ever amend, its always switched on. I bet it was as a result of running a registry checker. Don’t think I’ll bother with them anymore as it is obvious that the registry is not stable.
In Vista +1, whatever that’s called, and which Microsoft is probably already writing, the registry is finally shafted to be replaced with something that looks suspiciously like .ini files. So if one application gets itself upset it doesn’t corrupt another application way over yonder.
What a
