We’ve been getting so many questions about it, we thought we’d send along a quick update about the Lakeview Lodge renovation going on. Rockbrook has three cool old stone lodges, one for each age group (Juniors, Middlers and Seniors). They were built back in the 1920s and have wooden floors, huge fireplaces, and windows all around. The two largest ones have wooden framed (using Locust log posts!) porches wrapping around three sides. This fall we’re replacing the porches on one of these, the one that overlooks the Rockbrook Camp lake. It really is turning out great. The oak decking looks fabulous. Once we have the railings put up, it’ll really be awesome. We’ll keep you posted as things move ahead.

The Brookdale LodgeNestled deep in the Santa Cruz Mountains lies the historic Brookdale lodge. Surrounded by giant redwoods, Brookdale Lodge was originally opened in 1870 as the headquarters of the Grover Lumber Mill. The mill was purchased by H.J. Logan of Loganberry fame in 1900 and was converted into campgrounds and a hotel. Since then the lodge has passed through numerous hands.Between 1922 and 1945 the lodge was operated by Dr. F. K. Camp, a Seventh-day Adventist physician and a strict prohibitionist. It was Camp that built the magnificent Brookroom, a dining room that encloses a natural stream flowing down its center. The lodge is 1960s — original. If you’re not into retro, you will still like this place. It was clean, right on the beach, quiet at night, had an outstanding pool, wonderful beach view from our balcony/porch, a bird sanctuary below our window — we woke to the sounds of gabillions of birds each morning.
Nice place. Nice rest. Go there. No wait… do not go there. You might be the last room available on the weekend we get a chance to get away again. Stay home.
