That’s the tagline of the unusually named yokld.com, who bring social ranking and local business together in a service hoping to compete against a plethora of very similar sites, and while the site itself is pretty nice looking, just how useful the service will be remains to be seen.
From the sparse array of hand-picked businesses, there’s very little information to go on; You get a map, which has been done in MojoPages, and more recently Tupalo (review), an address, and the number of votes received, which makes it next to impossible to make an informed decision.
There are tabs for each business for positive and negative comments, but very little in the way of actual reviews, images, videos or anything that could tell you more than a quick glance at the yellow pages, and the voting system doesn’t make a bit of difference - If I want to pick a local restaraunt, choosing one based on votes alone does little to inspire confidence.

Profit rises at Wayside Net income at Shrewsbury-based Wayside Technology Group rose 67.5 percent in the first quarter as the company increased market share, it said Thursday.
The marketer of business computer software and services said profit rose to $990,000, compared with $591,000 for the same period a year ago. First-quarter sales at Wayside, formerly Programmer’s Paradise, rose to $46.9 million from $35.4 million a year earlier.

I was surprised to see that some websites had snippets with their local business addresses in the pages of result of Google. If you click on the Plus Box it will expand and show up a map of the location right of your business right below the result like shown below. Clearly it makes it easy for customers to find your business online.

How does it work? Well it is quite simple, you simply have to register to the Google Local Business Centre, entering the details of your business, the category, phone number etc. You can also specify the operating business hours. It is totally free and google verifies your info via postcard! Once you have received the postcard from google, you will get a pin number that will be used to activate your account.
