Wanna be a lobbyist? Too late!
You’ll have to wait 5 years perhaps. Fortunately, Sandra, Ian, and Rick got away from the Conservatives just..in..time. Imagine the odds of them quitting in the nick of time for something they probably don’t even want to end up doing. Funny. == I watched “Shine” [7/10] and it was a little disturbing, and kind of touching. Last [...]

Obama's lead strategist has lobbyist ties....Media Buries it.
Now this is quite interesting... Why wasn’t Michael Isikoff’s investigative piece outlining the lobbying connections of Barack Obama’s lead strategist, David Axelrod, promoted in Newsweek’s Sunday e-mail to subscribers? I’ve cropped the article descriptions from this list for purposes of formatting this post, but I have not removed any of the articles. Althou

ACTION: Tell McCain To Ditch His Lobbyist Friends
Tomorrow, 43 of John McCain’s closest friends will be holding a high-dollar fundraiser at the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC - just steps from the White House. Of those 43 organizers, 35 are well-connected DC lobbyists. John McCain’s lobbyists connections are well documented and people should be concerned. It is doubtful these Washington insiders are raising money for McCain for their health. After they help put McCain into the White House with their millions of dollars, they will come calling for executive favors. The Public Campaign Action Fund is going to deliver a petition to John McCain tomorrow night at his lobbyist fundraiser asking him to make good on his public financing pledge: Amid the news reports regarding the lobbyists associated with your campaign and the U.S. F

Dick Morris: Fred Thompson first lobbyist for president?
I have tried to keep myself from getting caught up in the Fred O’Mania that’s been going on since he started hinting that he was considering a run for the presidency. The American electorate, so desperate for a real conservative after eight years of a president who ran as a conservative yet governs as a liberal. To many Fred Thompson fits that bill. Dick Morris seems to think otherwise. I will be posting a couple of other pieces by Morris on Thompson. It is not meant as any sort of slap at Thompson of course. It is just being *ahemm* Fair and Balanced. ~RJH  Dick Morris article link FRED THOMPSON: FIRST LOBBYIST FOR PRESIDENTThere’s a new first in the 2008 presidential campaign. We’ve already seen the first woman candidate, Hillary Clinton and the first African American with widespread support and a serious chance at winning the presidency. But now there’s another groundbreaker: the first lobbyist candidate — Fred Thompson.Thompson was a lobbyist for 20 years before he was elected

Youtube launches semi-transparent ad service; IPI reports piracy costs US 12.5 bln; RIAA pays 100,000 to lobbyist Alpine Group
Youtube will launch a video ad service today. The service focuses on not being annoying to users while offering unique opportunity to advertisers. Instead of launching 15 to 30 second pre-roll ads, which research has shown only holds 30% viewer attention, Youtube will include a 10 second semi-transparent ad at the bottom of the video clip. At this point the user will generate a choice, either ignoring the ad, which will disappear after 10 seconds, or clicking to peruse further, whereby the video clip will pause and a full version of the ad will launch. By contrast, %90 of viewers will stick with an ad overly. Additionally, advertisers have the freedom to run launch ads much longer since the user has decided to research.(Link)A report issued by the Institute for Policy Innovation has found global music piracy responsible for slashing both 12.5 billion in US economic output and 71,060 jobs annually. Additionally, the report suggests that the US governments loses $422 million in tax dolla

      Pick Him- He's A Lobbyist!
Ed Gillespie was named as the new White House counselor today to replace Dan Bartlett. Gillespie is a partner in Quinn Gillespie & Associates LLC, a lobbying firm, whose clients have many issues currently before the government. I'm sure that good ol' Ed is going to simply forget about his former associates and clients and tend to the needs of the average citizen now. Let's take a look at some of Ed's clients to see if there could be any conflicts of interest.Qualcomm Inc., which last week said it would seek help from a federal court and President Bush to overturn a ban on U.S. imports of new cell phones made with company's semiconductors. The U.S. International Trade Commission imposed the ban because the Qualcomm chips violated a patent held by Broadcom Corp. The ban is also a blow to service providers, including AT&T Inc. -- another Quinn Gillespie client -- which relies on Qualcomm's technology for the phones it sells.Amgen Inc. and Genentech, biotechnology drug makers tha

The Hill: Sen. Obama finesses his lobbyist tiesExcerpt:"Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has pledged to create a new brand of politics in the Democratic presidential primary by rejecting contributions from lobbyists and political action committees (PAC), but his fundraising records show that he relies on donors with special interests.Three of Obama’s top fundraisers, who each have raised more than $50,000 for his campaign since January, were registered as lobbyists last year, according to reports filed with the Senate Office of Public Records. In 2006, Alan Solomont of Solomont Bailis Ventures earned $90,000 in lobbying income; Tom Reed, of Kirkland & Ellis, lobbied for the Seismological Society of America, the Nanobusiness Alliance, and the Airport Minority Advisory Council; and Scott Harris, of Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis, represented Cisco Systems, Microsoft, Dell and Sprint-Nextel.All three Obama fundraisers have said they are no longer lobbyists, although the public records office has

Congress Finds Ways to Avoid Lobbyist Limits
This is so perfectly typical. The Democrats make campaign reform one of the planks of their reform platform and all they have really done is to invent a new industry to circumvent the new laws. But then again they always say how they will create new jobs. We just didn't know that they meant new jobs to get around their own campaign reform laws. The examples in the story below are very typical from what I have heard and the matter of fact way that all politicians accept them should reveal what corrupt bastards they all are. The Democrats used the "Culture of Corruption" talking points perfectly during the last election. Granted that Abramoff didn't help but the Democrats gloss over how many of their own were such pals of Abramoffs. The simple fact is that no matter how many new laws we put into place on campaign donations loopholes will always be found. Here's a revolutionary thought: How about if we demand that our representatives live up to the spirit and not just the letter of the

Conservatives Threaten to Quit if DeLay Hired as Lobbyist
“At least two” board members from the American Conservative Union threatened to quit if the former House Majority Leader, Tom DeLay (R-Texas), was hired as a lobbyist. In a Christmas Eve column for the Chicago Sun-Times, conservative columnist Robert Novak claims he has heard of potential resignations of board members at the American Conservative Union, should former Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX) be hired as a lobbyist for the organization. DeLay told the The New York Times just last week that he would be announcing some new “career moves” soon, but said that the “one career that he was not considering” would be lobbying. Whatever “career” DeLay decides to take up, he must hope it is more successful than “his” blog. As Raw Story noted, DeLay’s site enjoyed a spike in traffic from liberal sites and has since died off.
