I've never really been a fan of creepy crawlies like this lizard before. They give me the shivers. But they look interesting though from up close. Just not that close to me. : )

Scientists are apparently bigger klutzes than Clark Kent, but instead of burning off their eyebrows, they’re either overdosing on insanity-causing “performance enhancers,” grafting metal arms to their bodies, or turning themselves into giant lizards, like in t
Check out this explanation for McCain's interesting "tick".While we are on the topic of American politics, obviously there is a lot of interest both down here and I presume back home in the Biden vs. Palin match-up tomorrow night (interesting side note - I wonder how many Canadians are going to choose the American VP debate over the Canadian English debate?). A creature capable of walking on the ceiling as if it were walking along the floor, or even of hanging upside down by just one leg. A creature capable of running with ease along a vertical, polished or slippery surface such as glass. These unfamiliar descriptions apply to the small lizard known as the gecko.

I’m not much of a reptile person, but I really like lizards. They’re cute, they change colors, and they eat bugs (I’m not fond of bugs!). And the look on their faces always puts a smile on mine. They dart from here to there and seem to be thinking something like…

IMAGE of the legless lizard from the genus Bachia by Conservation International/Cristiano Nogueira/Handout/ReutersSeveral new species have been recorded "in and around the Serra Geral do Tocantins Ecological Station" of Brazil. Equally important are observations of several endangered species such as the Brazilian Merganser (Mergus octosetaceus) a sawbill duck that prefers riverine habitat. The duck has a very small and fragmented population. It is considered critically endangered by BirdLife International and the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. From EurekAlert (press release), DC:An expedition comprising scientists from Conservation International (CI) and Brazilian universities found 14 species believed new to science – eight fish, three reptiles, one amphibian, one mammal, and o

while walking around ueno near the national museums, i came across this petal-- one of many that was lying on a rock wall. as i leaned in to take a photo, i suddenly saw a tiny nose appear from the shadows of the wall's inner recesses. waiting patiently i stayed until his nose was slightly more visible so that i could take this shot. (i really wish that i had had a flash or reflector with me that day-- it taught me one important lesson in photography: always bring a little more equipment than you think you will need, when wandering about.)

A Los Angeles jury rejected charges Thursday that Jereme James stole Fiji Island banded iguanas -
brachylophus brevicephalus, featured above - while visiting the South Pacific in September 2002. The neon-green-striped iguana is an endangered species, prosecutors said. The jury did convict him of possessing and concealing the Iguanas. James faces a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison when sentenced July 14. During an undercover probe, James had told investigators he had sold three iguanas for $32,000, prosecutors said. Four iguanas were seized when a search warrant was served at his house in April.

When you think to adopt an uncommon pet (not a dog or a cat), first of all you must know that you have to provide custom care for him. There are many uncommon pets you can adopt, like lizards, spiders, horses, ponies, turtles, any type of reptile, exotic birds, and even a wild animal. For lizards, you must keep them a fresh, clean environment, and a constant source of light is also necessary. Lizards need proper heating environment; is vital to a lizards survival, as it allows for a healthy immune system. You must not let you lizards walk around, otherwise it can bring damage to furniture, carpet, wiring and anything else. There are custom cages for lizards, you can find them at your local pet store. It is necessary to create a friendly environment for lizards, and you can add some rocks in
The biggest monitor lizard in the world is the komodo dragon. It weighs about 135 kg (300 pounds). It’s quite a dangerous lizard. Its mouth is full of poisonous bacteria and when it bites, the bacteria poisons the blood of its prey, killing it.

Apparently intent on stripping away the last remnants of his positive public image, Clinton opened up to a group of veterans in North Carolina, sharing his feelings on a Clinton / McCain matchup in the general election:
I think it would be great if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country.
That, presumably, is contrasted by an Obama / McCain matchup, with McCain’s representing the U.S. and Obama representing the Nation of Islam.
Naturally, the Clinton campaign told the public that Bill’s meaning was yet again misinterpreted. He was simply calling for renewed focus on the issues, not “falsely questioning any candidate’s patriotism.”
On the heels of the Jeremiah Wright incident, that

If you're looking for an exotic pet for your children you may want consider the Bearded Dragon Lizard. While most people are squeamish about having a reptile as a pet, you might change your mind once you get to know the Bearded Dragon Lizard better.Bearded Dragon Lizards are extremely gentle and docile. They make great pets for children and adults. They are very trusting and it may be possible to carry these lizards the first time and they wouldn't mind. This makes them very ideal as pets. They are loyal and easy to carry around. This is in stark comparison with other pets that may get agitated and may inadvertently hurt their owners. The Bearded Dragon Lizard is in all practicality safe from this kind of danger. So if you're looking for an exotic pet, they may want consider the bearded and

Australian Bearded Dragon LizardBearded Dragons have broad triangular heads and flattened bodies, with adults reaching approximately 18 to 24 inches head-to-tail. When threatened, the lizards will expand a spiny pouch under their jaw and turn it black, as well as inhale air and puff up to make them appear larger. The pouch resembles a beard, lending the animal their name.Bearded Dragons have a distinctive series of spines radiating horizontally from the head to the tail. Their color ranges from light tan to dark brown, depending on their native soil, often with highlights of black, brilliant red, or gold, and can change somewhat depending upon their internal condition. Bearded Dragons can occupy a large range of habitats from the desert to dry forests and scrublands. All species are from Au

This is Daddy Len's favorite picture that he took when he and mom went to Aruba recently. This blue lizard is one of the oldest inhabitants of Aruba. It looks a little scary to me, but I heard it is not poisonous or mean or anything like that. It likes to eat flies, just like I do!
Lizards are reptilian, often four-legged,with an integumentary system comprising scales, with a skull composed of quadrate bones. Lizards also possess external ears and movable eyelids. Encompassing forty families, there is tremendous variety in color, appearance and size. Due to their smooth, shiny appearance, lizards can appear slimy or slippery; their skin is actually very dry due to a lack of pores to excrete water and oils. Lizards have scales on their skin which may be tubercular or have ossified encrustations called osteoderms. Most lizards are oviparous, though a few species are viviparous. Many are also capable of regeneration of lost limbs or tails. Some lizard species, including the glass lizard and legless lizards, have some vestigial structures though no functional legs. They are distinguished from true snakes by the presence of eyelids and ears and a tail that can sometimes break off as a physical defense mechanism. Many lizards are good climbers or fast sprinters. Some ca
We always say that is so refreshing and relaxing to travel…
Every time we’ve made a trip, we have said before the trip: “This time we’ll really have a rest, just take it easy and enjoy”.
YEAH, SURE! *giggles* It never happens!
We’re enjoying the trip, but we always have to recover after coming home again. For some reason it always will be more activity than we have in mind from the beginning…
Well, we do want to explore so much when we’re out in the big wonderful world! If you on top of that add the fact that you rent a car to get around - which we almost always does - then the unthought-of will most likely happen… At least when we’re involved.
One of the first trip in the rest of the Europe that me and Mr Lifecruiser did was to the Spanish island Fuerteventura in 2004.
One of the days when we were out driving we decided to take one of the smaller roads on the map, because we were a bit curious of a small sweet water lak
When I leaned on the grass by the Gregory Lake at Nuwara Eliya to capture a photo of some yellow flowers against the sky, it turned out that I was not alone. This lizard was posing nicely, and I thought its eyes were saying "please take a photo of me as well!", and I didn't want to ruin its expectations by photographing only the flowers! From the set Nuwara Eliya 4x4 Lake Cross - April, 2007.
A boy’s pet 12-inch long lizard ate a smaller toy lizard, which had been placed in the pet lizard’s tank as its companion. The family noticed something was wrong with the shape of their pet lizard, took it to their vet, who pulled out the toy lizard. They had initially thought their pet lizard was having a baby lizard.
Moral of the story?
Don’t put toy lizards in a pet lizard’s tank
An unusual bulge does not mean something (or someone) is having a baby!

I’m about to be audited for the umpteenth time this year, and frankly I’m flat out (which I’m told is an expression that comes from the Aussie ‘Flat out like a lizard drinking’).
I’m going for a summary of some things that I’ve noted lately, so here goes.

This goes here as it is an interesting Podcast that I have listened to since I read Down Under by Bill Bryson. The book was an interesting read that gave me an insight into the joys of my own country, as well as its embarrassing history - all peppered with a healthy dose of fear of the fauna (Bill’s, not mine, having grown up with it). The Podcast had interesting information about the more slithering, deadly kind that is resident in the big island down under.

While my hopes were up that Blazing Lizard's first title would include wood chipper and pirahna tank deaths, it's hard to argue with this. The developer (made up of ex-Volition members) has revealed their downloadable title, Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball, which (thank God) is exactly what it sounds like. The game (the first in a series!) allows for up to eight players to choose from five unique teams (including pirates and ninjas, of course) and compete head to head in the sport that seperates the mice from the men -- dodgeball. Unlike traditional dodgeball, teams aren't restricted to one side of the court, and are allowed to freely roam six "arenas." Characters also have combat moves and special abilities, none of which are wood chipper or pirahna related. Sigh.Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball is being developed using Blazing Lizard's proprietary next-gen engine, Infyrno, and will support up four players local, eight players online, and four players in Co-op mode. The game will be avail
Lazy Sunday - A Bearded Dragon Lizard in the SunLazy Lizard Lies in the SunRecently I was walking around a friend's property, mostly Australian semi-rural bushland, when I came across this little creature. Although he looks frightening, the Bearded Dragon lizard is practically harmless, and refused to move a muscle even when we picked him up! Before moving him, I snapped this shot at an unusual angle. The detail in this photo is amazing when viewed full-screen, especially around the lizard's head - you can see every small spike and inflection in his scaly skin. Although, as I said, these lizards are practically harmless, they can give you a nasty bite if provoked, so don't go picking them up!This shot really makes you think. Whenever anybody looks at this picture they tend to automatically tilt their head counter-clockwise 90 degrees and look up and down the lizard's body. That's because of the unusual composition and depth of field in this photo. The Bearded Dragon's head forms t

Baton Rouge - Chris Austin (lab), assistant curator of herpetology at LSU's Museum of Natural Science, or LSUMNS, and adjunct professor in biological sciences, recently discovered a new species of lizard while conducting field research in Borneo.
Austin, along with colleague Indraneil Das from the Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, will publish their findings and photos of the new species in the prestigious Journal of Herpetology. The article, which will contain the currently embargoed scientific name of the species, is slated for publication in March 2007.
'We actually found four specimens at once,' said Austin. 'One of the best methods for finding lizards in the rainforest is to look under logs. We found two individuals of the new species under one log and two more under another.' With more than 15 years of fieldwork experience behind him, Austin knew immediately that he had found a new species. After collecting the lizar
After much fretting on my part, my two-year-old daughter Corrie's vocabulary is finally beginning to blossom. But she still has plenty of gibberish to share with us, often using the same nonsensical words repeatedly. A particular favorite of hers is "GEICO!" Yes, that one. But the funny part is that every time she says it, nine-year-old Adam shouts loudly and quickly, "FIFTEEN MINUTES ON THE PHONE COULD SAVE YOU FIFTEEN PERCENT OR MORE ON CAR INSURANCE!" Corrie roars with laughter, shouts "GEICO!" again, and...well, you get where this is going.
Shouldn't I be getting some commission for this?

The farewell party would've been intolerable but for the two joints, brief flashes of the Germany-Sweden game, and, of course, the exhibitionist copywriter and her theatrical dissertation on lesbian foreplay. He arrived late as usual, tired from a protracted day of sexual tension and forced pleasantries. Arriving late was his special skill, his calling card. It was a tendency and a perception that offset any pretensions of respectability and usefulness he'd have to otherwise affect or conform to.
That same morning he'd been half an hour late for the screening of an Italian neo-realist epic. As he clambered languidly up the steps outside the theatre, tickets tucked - crumpled and sweaty - into the back-pocket of his jeans, he tried to make some sense of relativity, global warming and the gently wind-rippled breasts of the model in the lingerie-ad hoarding that was casting a cool shadow over the parking lot, and whether these three phenomena were in some magical my
