I believe the 35% cash back from eBay via Microsoft live search cashback is the most popular topic on the internet yesterday. I think it’s necessary to write up a post about Microsoft live search cashback program and introduce how to get 35% cash back from eBay via live search cash back.

Just opened up my www.live.com home page to receive a nice surprise: … the less than awe-inspiring blue-gray of the home page has been replaced by a background picture. This would seem to open up a number of opportunities for special occasions, personalization, and or promotions, as well as just brightening up my day a bit. Maybe all the cold gray weather here in the Pacific Nor
Readers may have noticed that, in the past few weeks, several changes are beginning to pop with Live Search. Kevin Johnson, Microsoft's president of platforms and services division, has said that the company will work to fix their search brand image, according to USA Today. Microsoft has a history of holding the third largest search market share. But with Google dominating roughly 60% of the market and Yahoo holding onto 20-ish%, third place is not exactly competitive. So far in 2008, Microsoft has tarn

Back in October 2007 Microsoft bought Jellyfish.com- an affiliate marketing cash-back comparison engine. Microsoft today announced that it has won a key distribution deal with HP, the world’s largest PC manufacturer, to install a Live Search enabled toolbar on all HP consumer PCs planned to ship in the United States and Canada, beginning in January 2009. As part of this deal, the default search engine setting in the browser on all HP consumer PCs will also be set to Microsoft Live Search.
For all the excitement about Microsoft Live Search Cashback, I think a new announcement out today is far more important to Live Search's potential growth. It will be the default search engine on Hewlett-Packard computers sold in North America beginning in January 2009, winning the deal from Yahoo. HP is currently the world's largest PC manufacturer and second largest in the United States. Below,

I just hit the MSN.com website and I saw an ad about MSN Live Search offering Cash Back for the products you buy through Live Search. I think this is a really keen idea in order for MSN to obtain a larger audience from the Product Search world. This could be a real threat to sites like Craigslist, EBay and Amazon. Google rolled out a product search feature in 2006 called Google Base. Since then, s
The major Microsoft Live Search announcement scheduled for tomorrow will be the official launch of a new product: Microsoft Live Search Cash Back. Back in January, Matt blogged about how to see Google.com results as seen from America and I’ve just discovered that a similar functionality is available on the new Live Search interface, whilst troubleshooting a geolocation issue for one of my clients:

and what about

I didn't test whether every ISO country code/language version worked, but this was a nice cross section!

There is something strangely familiar about the new live.com interface.. and a clear sign that Microsoft are starting to look at Google and see where they can emulate their success.
For me, this is definitely good news.. not enough to make me switch search engines yet.. but encouraging.
The problem with MSN / Live.com was never really with the interface. In fact, I'd say that Yahoo has a greater interface problem than any of the others. The Yahoo home page is still stuck in the late 90's search engine "portal" concept. The simplicity of Google's interface was one of its original attractions. It seems that Microsoft are finally starting to understand this.
Further improvements to the SERPs (search engine results pages) were announce Bac

Seems like every time the new-look Live Search Home Page was tested, we happened to be online and caught it, but now the new look is here to stay. If you don’t already see it at www.live.com you will soon. The new look started appearing last night, and the modules that were broken on my.live.com (the personalized home page) including at least for me the Live Clock and CBS Sportsline scores, are now working again.
Update: Looks like qna.live.com is joining the party, with a new look, too, this one in keeping with the green and blue theme (thanks, AndyD): We’re noticing some other changes, as well, although they seem to come and go. See anything new? Let us know in the comments.

Microsoft’s weak showing means they aren’t going to beat Google at the current game. MS needs to put it’s substantial muscle finding the Next Big Thing in search. It also suggests that taking over Yahoo won’t help either; they haven’t had any better luck against Google.

It has been reported for quite some time
that MSN/Live does not handle 301 redirects gracefully.
Whilst putting in a 301 redirect is picked up in Google within days and Yahoo
within a few weeks, on MSN it might never be interpreted correctly.
As search engine optimizers something we
often do is recommend 301 redirects - perhaps because a page has moved, or
search engine friendly URLs have been implemented using rewrites. It is a key
tool in the SEO armoury.
There is some additional discussion at
Sphinn from various SEOs, but if you are moving a site, or considering moving one,
here is a great guide from SEO Book How to Move a Website... Should You Fear 301 Redirects Hurting Your Rankings? This
post goes through the process in detail.

Microsoft today unveiled 2 new online ad and search utilities to help advertisers and search engine experts do their jobs better.
The first, Live Search Webmaster Center is Designed for webmasters and search engine optimizers . . .
These services are just way too cool, work well, and will save you money, so I have to tell you about them! If you are on the road with cell in hand or anywhere that you have phone service, you can dial Google 411 to have it lookup business numbers for you (sorry not residential yet!). Rather than pay your cell companies outragageous 411 charge when looking for a business or certain types of information -try Google 411. Dial 1-800-GOOG-411.
I find stuff like this amazing and ultimately better for all us, maybe it will help make up for the increase in gas prices (save $.99 on a 411 call go 10 miles further down the road with the money you saved)! Microsoft also has a competing product, Live Search 411, and can be reached by dialing 1-800-CALL-411.
From Google:
Search for businesses by name or category. Can’t stand typing? GOOG-411 will understand your voice and find the business you’re looking for. Search by name ("Giovanni’s pizza") or category ("Pizza").

Microsoft first pulled back the link command in March of this year, due to trouble with automated queries. But as Karen reported, it seems to be back with a new prefix.Just add a plus sign before the operators and it works. For example, a linkdomain command is now +linkdomain:www.searchengineland.com, and a standard link command is now +link:www.searchengineland.com.Source : -083840.php

When you're driving down the Strip in Las Vegas and you get crunched between a Mad Momma in her green station wagon and a Golden Oldie who laments he "doesn't have any insurance," then adds "there's nothing like the feel of some new support socks and the open road," don't worry. It's all part of Microsoft's latest effort to introduce users to its Live Search Maps Web site. Microsoft, with its agency EVB, has created Live Derby 2007 as a "Pac-Man" style game where players can drive their car along city streets and pick up points while avoiding other drivers like Mad Momma, Golden Oldie and others. What makes the game different from other maze style games is that the mazes use actual Microsoft Live Search Maps of San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Las Vegas and London, complete with satellite imagery. The "power-boost" locations players can drive through to charge up their cars are actual locations in those cities, and players can click on those destinations to access the real listi
While most of the time, you want to narrow your search down and view only a few results for a particular search query. However, sometimes it becomes necessary to view quite a few results, especially if the topic matter is new to you and you aren't sure how to narrow your search. By default, Microsoft's Live Search displays 10 results per page. To increase the number of results displayed per page, follow these steps (after the jump).1. Go to Live Search.2. Go to the upper right corner of the page and select Options.3. Click Change your search settings.4. In the Results section, use the dropdown to select the desired number of results on each page. Choices are 10, 15, 30,and 50.5. Click the Save button.
Changing the game so everybody wins!
A game site that is actually worth playing on: LiveSearchClub. Here’s the deal: You pick from 6 games to earn tickets from completing. Microsoft will then give you rewards based on how many tickets you have.
The games are all word games of some type, from crosswords, to anagrams to wordplay trivia. Each game gives a set amount of tickets based on completion, from 3 to 25.
The prizes range from 1 music download to a complete XBox 360 system. Don’t expect to get the 360 quickly, though. It is time consuming, and costs 35000 tickets to get.
One downfall to this site is that there are only a set number of puzzles for each game. If you happen to complete all of the puzzles, expect to wait a while before new ones are added. My suggestion would be to go through and play all of the games evenly, so you don’t get bored.

Google recently updated its site links Google Webmaster tools{Sitemaps} which it does monthly. Not surprisingly my back links were some 1043. For all the power of Google and Yahoo!'s search engines the amount of results that they return is surprisingly small compared to what is actually out there on the web. Essentially, search engines as we know them operate on a pretty simple premise – spiders are sent out to crawl through billions of pages, building an index in the process. It is this index that the search engine then refers to when a query is submitted.
There are two problems with this. Firstly, as has already been mentioned, it is by no means a complete representation of the actual content on the web – the spiders, as powerful as they are, cannot hope to reach all of the pages outside of the mainstream. There have been some estimates of Google having only indexed as little as 20% of the Internet. Secondly, the index will never be completely up to date – cases of sites that took months to be included, even though they were actively promoting themselves, are not unheard of.
