This weekend we are enjoying a last summer family fling, spending time together. Today we are going to the Statue of Liberty. And tomorrow is my 17th wedding anniversary.
Looking back over the summer and the last 17 years, and thinking about what I am most grateful for it is the little moments that were so [...]
When I was a teenager, I wrote poems every day. There was something very cathartic about using words to describe my feelings, but in a very visual way. I think it helped me make sense out of the insanity of my home life. Besides, poetry was the one thing no one could take away from me. It's actually a very healing tool for the emotionally wounded.
One of my favorite poems was called "Littl
With gasoline breaking price records, public employees from cops to bureaucrats are trying to reduce fuel consumption and save money by doing little things in greater Orlando — like properly inflating tires and cutting back on how long cars idle.
Big initiatives are out of the question, in part because the vast majority of government fleets in Central Florida are made up of large, gas-guzzli

I know from working experience that there are elements that can make your career a failure or a success. Among the potentially bad things that can ruin your career are:
1. A blunder or gaffe about a manager’s name who you have met before and are presumed to know by now. Continuously getting his or her [...]

We all agree that the iPhone is a great device. We see its potential and feel that it represents an emerging class of “Internet communication” devices that are always connected and integrated to data services on the Internet. Other requirements would be a physically small form factor (ie. smaller than a laptop) and being a [...]

Faithful readers will know how much I adore the song "Little Things" from Sesame Street. While I have always appreciated the little things in my life, the more Mama-years I have under my belt, the more deeply I realize it. This song has always touched me.
Go listen to the song (and watch the video) here.
"Lingerie Drawer"oThe theme this week for Illustration Friday is: "Little Things" and I think this fits perfectly! Nothing better than the cat getting to lounge around in that lingerie drawer - it's the little things!
Well today is Blog Action Day and a lot of bloggers are blogging about our environment today. Being a personal finance blogger, I am going to make this one related to money…again. Well, a lot of people think that being Green is expensive — e.g., you have to buy Energy Star compliance products, fancy hybrid car, expensive solar panels, etc. Well here are 40 little things you can do to both save money and be green:
Buy only what you need
Buy products with less packaging, larger size usually mean more product and less packaging
Buy products with packaging that can be reused or recycled
Buy used products
Use each product until it is completely worn out
Avoid disposable products
Register for DMA’s Mail Preference Service to stop junk mails
Use electronic statements and go paperless
Turn off lights and appliances when not in use
Set refrigerators to 40 degrees (F) and freezers at 0 degrees (F)
Take advantage of natural light
Unplug chargers and certain appliances

Yes they do. And they are things that should not. Here is the example that you know is coming.
We listen to the Radio at work everyday. I hate the radio, it slowly drives me crazy. I put it on classic rock stations, because they are a better option. If you are at work for 8 hours a day and you are listening to the top 40 you hear the same songs two or three times. The classic rock stations have a large enough library that you only hear the same songs the next day.
Anyway, we use to have it on the top 40 station, and I hated it. 1) Because most new music, on the radio, sucks, and 2) You hear the sucky music more than once.
This story comes out of that.
For a while there was a crappy song on the Top 40 station, it was called “Cupid’s Chokehold” by Gym Class Heroes.
Careful if you watch the YouTube it will be stuck in your head.
Anyway, so I heard the same type of noise that resembled that song after I switched the radio to Classic Rock, it took a month to figure it
Little things are responsible for our happiness. We call them little things because they happen to us every day and we tent to let them pass unnoticed. But there´s where the happy thoughts responsible for out happiness are coming from. When we smile or when someone smiles to us fills our hearts with happiness. It´s so easy to smile... and because of that we think it´s not so important. We came to think that only the things we strugle for are important. That´s soooo wrong. We are happy holding the loved one in our arms, we are happy when we feel the smell of rain or the smell of the forest, first snow makes us happy, chocolate, dinnner with family... Here´s where the happiness is. A new house takes time to become a home, a new house is new only untill it becomes a home... And the real happiness is not in the new house but in the home it becomes. A new house is a big step in our lives... but it´s an empty accomplishment as long as it doesn´t become a home, part from out legacy. Go
1. A solar powered telephone so I could order from REI and have stuff delivered. 2. One of those radios like the Professor had in Gilligan’s Island that can be cannabilized to make an iPod or a Hitachi Magic Wand. Are there coconuts there I can turn into batteries? 3. A fully loaded, multi-purpose tool belt. Person: Sela Ward. Reason: I think we have some chapters to finish. Visit Lori at Hahn at Home
In Clearwater Florida this is our rainy season. This time of year we experience thunderstorms most afternoons. With two young boys at my house there's nothing like a rain puddle to call their name. As I watched the rain drops fall this afternoon I watched how each small rain drop caused a ripple in the puddles. Later today I was reading a post by Indy Real Estate Agent, Paula Henry, where she shared her successes and wrote how other real estate bloggers had helped her. I was flattered that I made her list. It made me realize how like rain drops the little things we do can have long lasting and even long reaching effects on others. By the same token a Huntsville Alabama Real Estate Agent, Kimberly Grant inspired me this week with her informative Neighborhood of the Week posts and when I complimented her on these she graciously said I could feel free to incorporate some of her new ideas in
Most men really, really like women. That may seem a bit like telling you that water is wet, but it's true. If there is a God, men should bow down and thank him for blessing us with such beautiful creatures in the opposite sex. Of course, we usually aren't shy about showing our gratitude: We tend to turn into slobbering piles of putty when a woman does just about anything. It's not always the scandalously mini miniskirt or the cleavage-baring V-neck that does it (and this is by no means a call to outlaw these wonderful things). Instead, it's often the little, innocuous actions and displays that have the biggest effect on men. Read on for the top 10 little things a woman does that drives us crazy.Number 10She goes for the heart through the stomachAll that fluffy talk about the sensuality of food contains morsels of truth, especially when the sweaty, apron-clad woman making it is doing so purely for your benefit. And it won't just be the kitchen that'll heat
Briefly a big star in Britain in the mid-'60s, Dave Berry faced the same dilemma as several other British teen idols of the era: R&B was obviously nearest and dearest to his heart, but he needed to record blatantly pop material to make the hit parade. It was also obvious that Berry was in fact much more suited toward pop ballads than rough-and-tumble R&B, regardless of his personal preferences. At his peak, his output was divided between hard R&B/rockers and straight pop. Help from ace session players like Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones notwithstanding, his smooth voice was frankly ill-equipped to deliver the goods with anything close to the same panache as Mick Jagger or Eric Burdon on the bluesier items. He made a rather good go of it, on the other hand, with romantic pop/rock ballads, hitting the British Top Ten with "The Crying Game" (1964), Bobby Goldsboro's "Little Things" (1965), and the excruciatingly sentimental "Mama" (1966). "This Strange Effect," written by Ray Davies (th
Many things in life which we think are insignificant can make a huge difference. Finishing an uncompleted task, having a spring clean or a tidy up, writing a letter to someone you care about, reading an inspirational book, helping others, a trip to the cinema and so on, are all the ways to improve the [...]
It's an odd thing, a cigarette. Sometimes it's vile, the first puff inspiring the urge to stub it out instantly and making me wonder why I had lit up in the first place. Other times it's a nothingness, but it seems like a part of me - a natural extension of my hand. At those times I might hardly take a draw on it at all, I just need the feel of it. And being the world's worst smoker I'm never sure why I bother. After all, while I kind of inhale the smoke rarely descends to my lungs. Very Clintonesque, no doubt. Plus I don't imagine it makes much of a difference as far as the chemical content goes. But then there are those times when I do take it in and that's what is an oddity. I was reclining on the futon this evening, watching Rome with a cigarette in hand. This evening's taste was vile but I persisted. It wasn't until I got up to throw away the contents of my impromptu ashtray that I felt the effects. Headrush. And as I'm typing my skin is tingling. It's such a
Sometimes the little things mean a lot.Ever notice the little things with your children? How they change ever so slightly, but you KNOW, if you stopped and thought about it, you'd realize how HUGE it was?I watched my son walk up the stairs to his classroom today, as I usually do. For a long time he would take the steps one by one - one foot, then the other on the same step, and repeated all the way up. I've watched other kids take each step from left foot to right foot, with no 2 feet on the same step. You know what I mean. Now my son is one of the oldest in his class, is VERY smart and all that good stuff, but he isn't ultra-coordinated. In fact, he is more than ready for a team sport come the fall. He runs FAST, and he is getting more and more bold on our playscape (one of the reasons we got it was to help the kids with their coordination). I watched him take each step, left, right, left right this morning. To me, that was HUGE.Ever do something nice for someone, and you di
Yesterday I read a great post called The Top 5 Least-Considered Reasons To Homeschool. We all know about the big reasons for homeschooling, but there many little reasons that are added bonuses. For me, its knowing that we don’t have to get up early in the morning to get the boys ready for school. No fighting, no rushing, no trying to get clothes on their bodies and food in their bellies before the sun has even come up. If its raining, snowing, or just plain cold we don’t have to get out of the house, or even our jammies.
Every family has their own list of added perks that come from homeschooling. What are you secretly glad to be homeschooling about?

I once read that the best way to have a happy life was not to do the big things that everyone dreams about - going on a cruise, winning the lottery, living in a fancy house…
The secret lies in the little things. Singing your favourite song on your bike, making a cake from scratch, bathing with deliciously scented soap. Fortunately for us Amsterdammers there’s a gorgeous selection of soaps just waiting to be purchased at La Savonnerie on the Johnny Jordaanplein.
Made from olive oil. All natural, none of it tested on animals, with a multitude of colours and scents.
