Inbound links, link exchanges
and link acquisition
Link text (the text that is clicked on when clicking on a link) is singly the most important factor when Google determines the rankings for any given searchterm. This article isn't about that aspect of inbound links, although it is briefly touched on. This article discusses inbound links for their link popularity/PageRank value, and pr
Many people underestimate the power of link exchanges. A link exchange is when one website owner exchanges links with another website in order to create publicity for their website. Link exchanges are extremely important when building a website, because (a) they allow for publicity and (b) they can actually increase your page rank. Yes, you heard me- they can increase your page rank. Here's how
If you plan to haggle over PageRank with me…goodbye.
That’s right, I have kicked the habit. The size of your PageRank doesn’t impress me any more. PageRank surely is still real, but an individual page’s PR can often shrink or grow so that neither you nor I can really know its real size.
The Toolbar PageRank has [...]
Don't pay for links! Join communities like blogcatalog.com if you are a blogger and if you have a website make sure you have more links coming in. The more links you have pointing to your site the better. The more readers the better... .it takes time to get the readers you want
For those people that participate in the viral link exchange where they pass on links to people that join and further increasing link backs of the people before them. The point of getting link exchange is to get a higher PageRank, but when I did a research that when a webpage has over 50 outgoing links, it will actually lower the points calculating towards their PageRank. Make it as easy for people to link to you as possible. Here are a few tips: 1. Create a page where people can get the information about linking to you. In other words, make a "Link to Us" page. Make it easy by providing with them the HTML that they can easily pasted into their web page editor. 2. Make sure your link partner's link page is on their own domain. There are free links managers (ex. Bravenet) that create links pages for users, but they are not on the users' domains. By exchanging with these people, you are actually exchanging links with Bravenet (for example), rather than your link partner. This is not the link you are looking for! 3. When you find suitable link partners, put their link up on your site before contacting them. Write a personal email requesting an exchange. Let them know why you think your exchange is a good
Link exchanges devalue the importance of the link back. One ways link are always best. Google's algo is intelligent enough to score links as quality and it makes sense that link exchanges are not scored that high. Link Exchanges are not natural links. Natural one way links help in determining whether or not your site is an authority on it's subject. There is nothing authoritative about link exchanges. Isn't the reason why your website is ranked for a particular keyword due to it being considered an authority? With SEO and other means, most rankings are achieved through SEO tactics. This wasn't what Google had in mind when they created the algo. You will see more and more sites that have ranked well in the past start to lose steam in search because these sites only serve 1 purpose. The purpose is to line the site owner's pockets, and not provide quick access to information. Focus your content, both on page and off page items, on the "USER" not search engines and your websites sear
There are more ways to generate links to your pages than just exchanging them. Create quality links by doing the following: 1. Get your site listed on large directories like Open Directory Project (DMOZ) and Yahoo! Directory. Google uses Open Directory Project listings in these directories to formulate its own directory and listings in either or both directories can help boost your "importance" or PageRank on Google. Listings in the Open Directory Project are free. Just be sensible, honest and careful into which categories you try and get listed. Don;t choose the first one that looks 'likely'... You will have to pay to be considered for inclusion to Yahoo! It's a whopping US$299 just to be considered with absolutely no guarantee of listing. Given the Yahoo's search results are currently provided by Google, I don't believe it's necessary. If you s
Link exchanges have been somewhat maligned of late. There are those who think that anything that sends traffic away from your website is just not a good idea. It is true that link exchanges do create two-way traffic, but the idea here is to get more traffic coming than going… or at least an equal [...]
