The range of entertainment available in and around Crewe really does seem to be on the up. We featured Limelight Comedy a couple of months back and there's more of the sell-out same on Thursday 17th April at the High Town club. There's a double headline show featuring Caimh McDonnel (pictured) & Andy White who can regularly be seen at the Comedy Store & Jongleurs along with all the other big clubs across the UK. The other day, I mentioned that BBC Arena programme that, depending upon your outlook, showed Crewe in a good/bad light. During the impromptu pub crawl on Tuesday night I couldn't help getting the little snapper out to grab a few images, similar to those shown on the programme. The other week I asked if Crewe blog readers had seen the BBC Arena programme Into The Limelight. I missed it, but heard from a few people that it didn't show Crewe in a particularly good, er, light. Well, thanks to a mate who taped it (ta Caroline) I watched it on Sunday morning. First, the programme was well edited and made the Limey look a superb venue. All of the acts talked warmly about the nationally recognised tribute club, Ray Bispham (former owner, now hoping to establish a music scene at the Jolly Tar pub at Wardle - see Chronicle online article) spoke well about the town, its roots etc, and even some of the filming gave the Hightown area of Crewe an interesting look and feel. It was, first and foremost, about music and some of the characters featured were great value. They lived for the music and the Limelight was one of their favourite places to play. Limelight Networks Inc., a content delivery network for digital media, said Thursday it expects earnings in the third quarter and year to fall short of Wall Street estimates, after reporting a decline in its second-quarter net income.The company expects a loss of 4 cents to 6 cents per share in the September quarter and break-even to 2 cents per share in profit for the year, excluding items. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial forecast, on average, a third-quarter profit of 1 cent per share and a full-year profit of 5 cents per share. Analysts estimates typically exclude one-time items.Limelight Networks said that on a GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) basis, it expects a third-quarter loss of 8 cents to 10 cents per share, with a full-year loss of 51 cents to 54 cents per share.
Seems there’s some hate flying around when it comes to the new Rilo Kiley and I admit to not being a huge fan of their first single off of this month’s Under the Blacklight, but I applaud them for trying something different. The Moneymaker was definitely a departure from their previous work and maybe I have yet to give it a shot (I only listened to it two or three times) and I’m hoping it grows on me. The video is impressive though. Their second single is much closer to what they usually do and it’s called Silver Lining. But from some posts I’ve seen about the song people seem to not be warming up to it either. To me, Rilo Kiley is not “over” nor are they “so yesterday”. I’m sure the negative backlash has something to do with them signing on with Warner Brothers Records and maybe some fans think they might Plans this new album. Yesterday, in San Francisco, Facebook held a press event to officially announce the launch of Facebook Platform. As Michael Arrington notes on TechCrunch, giving this amount of access to developers is the polar opposite of what MySpace has done, which many have accused of sitting within its own walled garden.
