See how the Wii Lightsaber works
"LucasArts has ahem, 'unleashed' the latest web documentary for Star Wars: Force Unleashed, showing just how you swing a Lightsaber with the Wii Remote (and stylus). Expectedly, it doesn't look like the flawless 1:1 sabre thwoom-fest we imagined in our dreams, but the first proper Star Wars game of the generation definitely looks better in motion on Wii (and stunning on PS3/360)."[via computer and videogames]

      Construye tu propio lightsaber
Second-grader Seeks Lightsaber
Labor Day has come and gone, and now our eyes move onward to sweaters and sweets in Pumpkin-shaped containers. We are at the top of a hill, bracing ourselves for the slide down into the end-of-the-year holidays. Our credit cards, no doubt, will serve as our sleds and carry us from cob web to candy cane. So, before we white-knuckle our way through the merriment, consider a time when we had fewer concerns. There was a time when the decision at hand was what Star Wars costume would garner the most goodies. I chose Darth Vader. It was second grade, and Michael Dorn also chose to adorn himself as the Diva of the Darkside. “You’re a girl,” the wanna-be Storm Troopers cried. “You can’t be Darth Vader.” I only wish I had the presence of mind at that tender age to say, “Oh yeah! Well this lightsaber up your butt says I can! So, why don’t you shake your Cookie Monster ass on over to the monkey bars before I turn you into a furry blue nigh

      Chewbacca Delivers Lightsaber to NASA
Everyone’s favorite Wookie Chewbacca presented Nasa with Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber today.  The lightsaber is going on a space shuttle ride to commemorate Star Wars 30th Anniversary.  The Discovery astronauts will have a little something extra in their gear when the space shuttle blasts off in October: Luke Skywalker’s original Jedi Lightsaber. As part of the “Star Wars” 30th anniversary celebration, NASA has agreed to carry the prop weapon into orbit and jettison it in space. You can see the video here.

Lightsaber to be Sent to Outerspace: perhaps the biggest waste of money this year yet.
But then again there is the Iraq war and all, so no this fruitless endeavor would not be the biggest waste of money this year. And when I say lightsaber I mean “the” lightsaber. According to NASA, they are planning on sending the original lightsaber prop from Star Wars to outerspace aboard Discovery in October. “Chewbacca, the towering Wookiee best known from the film as Han Solo’s co-pilot on the Millennium Falcon, will officially hand the lightsaber over to officials from Space Center Houston during a ceremony at the airport. Joining “Chewie” will be other characters from the six-part sci-fi classic, including Boba and Jango Fett and together they help push back the airplane on the tarmac. When the shuttle arrives in Houston, the flight will be greeted by a troop of Stormtroopers and other Star Wars notables including the droid R2-D2, who will deliver the lightsaber to a waiting line of Hummers outside the baggage claim of the William P. Hobby Air

Luke's Lightsaber Set For Trip to a Galaxy Far Far Away
I must have died and gone to Dagobah today. So much Star Wars news! On its next voyage, the space shuttle Discovery will be carrying one of the most iconic symbols of nerd history: Luke Skywalker's lightsaber. Why do you ask? Not only 'cause it's LONG overdue, but also because it is to commemorate the 30 year anniversary of the series. They are even having a huge ceremony take place. Before departing on its travel to get to Johnson Space Center, Chewbacca will hand off the lightsaber to officials. Other characters, including Boba and Jango Fetts (yay), will join in the festivities and usher the plane off to its destination. Upon touching down in Houston, Texas, the lightsaber will be intercepted by Storm Troopers and R2-D2, making it possibly the most awkward combination ever. Just to make sure no Imperial funny tricks happen, other characters will also join it. A convoy of Hummers will then transport the saber to the space center, where it will stay on display until its October

      Show Hasbro Your Lightsaber
Hasbro is really pushing its new spring loaded lightsabers in a big way and they’re currently running a fantastic contest to try to move some of these suckers. The prize? How’s about a trip for four to Star Wars Celebration IV in Los Angeles and a one-of-a-kind chrome Force Action Lightsaber? As a Star Wars Convention veteran, the trip alone is a hell of a prize if you’re a Star Wars fan. To enter, all you have to do is make a video of yourself using said lightsaber in some creative manner. For the boring official rules go to StarWars.com. Here’s the YouTube promotion video for the contest: If you enter and win the contest, let me know. I plan on getting some Toy Bender representation at the con.
