"Apples"Completed: 10.2.07oil om canvas board7" x 5" This painting was a bit of a struggle for me. Since I have not painted still lifes in awhile, I am having trouble just finishing a painting in the 1-3 hours that it usually takes for other daily artists. For me, this is part of my studying process again. At times, it my take me too long to post a finished painting. If that is the case, I will start posting my progress through a painting I"m having trouble on. During the process of the painting I will take photos of different points through my exploration of that particular art piece. This artwork was supposed to have a flower between the two apples. However, as I started painting it, I could see it was not going to go the way I wanted it to in the time frame I had. I took the flower out of the still life and painted a study of the two apples instead. The main part that gave me trouble was the indentation of the red and green apple where the stem comes out. It took me way longer than I expected! Oh well, the good thing is I solved my problems and finished it. Again, I am extremely dissapointed over the photo quality, because the painting looks sharper than the photo. "Pumpkin 1"Completed: 9.30.07oil on canvas board7" x 5" I am so excited about this painting. My inspiration from the pumpkin took off from yesterday and I bought all sorts of autumn objects. I have not painted still lifes since about 3 years ago, so I was a little anxious when I started. As I started to lay down the paint, I hated how it was coming out, so I switched to another board and tried a different approach. Instead of diving right in, I did a light sketch with thinned out reddish-orange and that helped me map out my composition. The only thing I am disappointed about is the picture quality. I am still waiting for my new digital camera, and it is very difficult to get a crisp picture from the camera I'm using now. (I won't be getting my new camera for about another week and half.)
