J. Michelle Hoffman, a sophomore paralegal science major, has received the Greater Lexington Paralegal Association Scholarship. Hoffman, from Lake Charles, La., is president of EKU's Student Paralegal Association and has a 3.74 GPA. She will be presented the scholarship at the GLPA’s December luncheon. “The ($250) scholarship will help me pay for books,” Hoffman said. “The most valuable part of the award will be a student membership in the GLPA because that will give me the opportunity to meet and network with paralegals in Lexington, as well as learning opportunities.” Hoffman plans to work as a paralegal in the Lexington area upon graduation.

Over in Lexington, Kentucky, Sarah had a chance to meet up with Una MacCarthy at the camp party there. It was a great blast from the past, from the 1980s to be exact. Una has a long history with Rockbrook, attending as a camper, working as a counselor and even filling the Program Director post for while. Now she’s the Middle School Head and Assistant Head of School at The Lexington School. Here she is with her two boys, Justin and George, and Sarah.

Since I get asked a lot of questions about condos in Arlington, as a new feature to my blog I am going to be looking at individual complexes in depth in order to help spread the word about how great some of these buildings are! For my first “Condo Focus” article, I chose a wonderful complex located in the heart of the Ballston-Virginia Square corridor, Lexington Square.  It is comprised of 4 towers located on the quiet 9th Street, which parallels Wilson Blvd and Fairfax Drive and can be found between Pollard and Oakland Streets.   The buildings were completed from 2000–2002 and boast some traditional floorplans as well as some really spectacular, light filled very different layouts, too!  Some units even have gas fireplaces.  The buildings have beautiful marble lobbies – one for each side of 9th Street.  On the North side (the photo above) is where you’ll find the 2–tiered swimming pool and on the south side y

Lexington sits on the edge of Bourbon Country in the heart of Kentucky. You would think you could get a drink almost any time, any where that you would like. That's not the case, but it will get easier come Dec. 16.The Urban County Council approved a measure this week that will allow consumers to buy bottles of wine, liters of gin and six-packs of beer on Sundays, the first time by-the-drink and packaged alcohol has been available in most locations in Fayette County on Sundays.Consumers used to have to go to a restaurant with more than 100 seats that had food sales of more than 50 percent of total revenue, a hotel, convention center or race track to get a glass of beer, wine or spirits.

More than a dozen hot air balloons converge on Lexington for an annual Independence Day Rally. WCVE Public Radio producer Steve Clark has an audio preview of the event, and of one of it’s colorful characters. Bill Whidden is a full-time professional balloonist from Kissimmee Florida. He serves as balloon-meister at various events around the country including an annual rally in Lexington. His wife Trish heads up the chase team. While waiting for the N train in the 59th & Lexington Station yesterday, I was sitting in one of the wooden seats in the center of the platform, and I could not help but overhear a conversation taking place between three teenagers sitting on another bench on the other side of a very large trash can. It was not a particularly interesting conversation and I was not trying to eavesdrop, but it was more so the way in which I was actually hearing the conversation that was so alluring.The shape of the ceiling in a segment of that station is a very narrow half-cylinder that provides for some interesting acoustics.
