      Jens Lehmann Tribute
It's really funny. Literally. There are 2 reasons why it's funny. 1, just a day ago I posted my opinions on Jens Lehmann rambling about his time at Arsenal, then I told him to shut up. And now, I am actually doing a tribute for him on this site. Guess I got back some of Jens Lehmann "eccentricity". Reason number 2 is that this tribute is REALLY funny. Embattled Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann could be on his way to Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, according to reports in the German press. The team's manager, Felix Magath, has been critical of its starting goalkeeper Simon Jentzsch and went as far as to pull him from this weekend's game at halftime. Management has been mulling a move for Lehmann for some time and this may be the catalyst they need, reports kicker. de. Wolfsburg--which at one point in its history employed a coach by the name of Wolfgang Wolf (you can't make this stuff up)--are currently 13th in the Bundesliga, only five points clear of the relegation zone.

      Lehmann in hot water again
Just how much more controversy can Jens Lehmann get in this season? After losing his place in the Arsenal side early on in the season after two blunders, criticising his replacement Manuel Almunia and his manager Arsene Wenger and strongly indicating that he will be leaving the club in the January transfer window, Lehmann’s behaviour is again a focus after supposedly making a rude gesture to German fans during his country’s simple 4-0 win over Cyprus on the weekend. The big goalkeeper has been accused by the German media of making a middle finger gesture whilst scratching his face to fans who were chanting for reserve keeper Robert Enke to replace him on the pitch. Unsurprisingly, Lehmann has denied the accusations, claiming them to be ‘nonsense’. Whilst the photo included might tell a different story I’m inclined to believe Lehmann at this stage. In saying that, it wouldn’t surprise me if the accusations did turn out to be true. The relevance of al

German international goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has stated his intention to stay with Arsenal through the end of this season. The 38 year-old shot-stopper has been the subject of intense transfer speculation following his dip in form, and the loss of a first team spot to Manuel Almunia. Reports also implied that the Arsenal number one had fallen out with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger after his criticism of the Frenchman's choice to play Manuel Almunia. However, Arsene Wenger recently stated that Lehmann was '200% professional' and declared that he still had plenty of time to win his place back before the January transfer window. It now seems that the German keeper will not leave the team during the window, despite having allegedly received offers from other clubs.Lehmann said: "I want to stay with Arsenal until the end of the season. We are still in November. November and December is plenty of time to win his place back," said Wenger."He is up for the challenge because he is 200% professional."I don't think too many people would agree that Lehmann is professional, but it's not too hard to understand his frustration.Germany coach Joachim Loew has told Lehmann that he needs to regain a starting spot before Chr

If Lehmann goes, how will he be replaced?
It seems like the entire Arsenal squad has had something positive to say in the aftermath of their seven-goal demolition of Slavia Prague. The man who has been in all the headlines after scoring twice in his first start of the season is 18-year-old striker Theo Walcott and he had some things to say about being compared to Thierry Henry. Walcott is blessed with the same pace as his former teammate and the second goal he scored against Slavia was typical of an Henry in full flight. Despite this, Walcott was quick to distance himself from the Frenchman and empasised that he is very much his own man. “People are going to compare the second goal to Thierry but it was my own goal. People are always going to compare me to Thierry - the way I run and everything - but as I keep saying I will be my own player.” And so he should be. The comparisons with Henry will always exist but as long as Walcott does not feel burdened by them he will continue to develop well. If he can be even

Fans are beginning to question whether Lehmann has a place at the club any more, as Wenger has completely left him out of the squad, keeping Lukasz Fabianski as the second choice goalkeeper."Jens Lehmann played very well for Germany," Wenger told Arsenal.com. "But Almunia will play against Bolton. He must be patient and fight for his place. Lehmann versus Almunia - A timeline of quotes
I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve absolutely had it with Jens Lehmann. Most Arsenal supporters will be well aware of the trouble he has caused this season firstly with his two massive mistakes against Fulham and Blackburn and secondly with his absolute inability to keep his mouth closed about his opinion of goalkeeping rival Manuel Almunia. For anyone who does not know the story I’ll run through it very quickly for you. Basically, after losing his place after the Blackburn blunder, Lehmann has sat on the bench with an apparent elbow injury (is it real or fake, we’ll probably never know…) while his Spanish understudy Almunia has started in every Premiership and Champions League match since. Despite performing quite well, Almunia has been consistently criticised as being an inferior player by Lehmann and the big German has remained adamament that once he became fit from the injury that might not even exist, he will slot back into the side. Now, aft

      Lehmann, Eduardo and Fixture Madness
International Fortnight has finally hit home, the quietness between matches would be deafening were it not for Jens Lehmann telling the German media that he expects to back in the Arsenal XI for the Bolton game. His expectations may be met; if they are, it is a certain sign for Manuel Almunia that he will never be the Number One ‘keeper at Arsenal. If the German is not included, I believe Arsene will not recall him unless Almunia has an absolute stinker in upcoming matches. The problem that Lehmann has is not his supreme confidence in his own ability nor is it his ability per se, more that he may not entirely have the confidence of his manager. Whilst that would not be difficult to understand given the mistakes made, it does overlook the fact that in the other two hundred and sixty eight minutes he has been on the pitch this season in an Arsenal shirt, he has kept a clean sheet. However, Almunia has his critics and will probably never convince some that he merits a place ahead of

      Lehmann Registers Impressive Germany Performance
Under-fire Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann made some fine stops to register a clean-sheet, making Germany the first team to qualify for the 2008 European Championships after a 0-0 draw with Ireland. The German keeper needed to play well this week to even be considered for Arsenal's clash with Bolton on the 20th, and his performance will certainly make Arsene Wenger do some thinking. Unfortunately, the yellow card he picked up for time wasting means that he will miss Wednesday's game against the Czech Republic - and a second chance to prove himself. However, Lehmann and the German national team coaching staff are both confident that his performance against Ireland was enough to ensure that he will start for the club next week."Why would Arsene Wenger not have reason to play me?," Lehmann said. "I played well and on that fact I am ready to play for Arsenal again."German manager, Joachim Löw was full of praise for the veteran shot-stopper."Jens was flawless and he was a solid backbone" L

Dein, Lehmann, Cesc, Adebayor And An International Cast
An ’insider’ - probably meaning the fifth bottle of Pinot Grigio in his stomach - has told a Sun hack, So much has been written about the supposed strained relationship David has with the board and most of it is well wide of the mark. Of course he feels he was unfairly squeezed out of Arsenal. But in his chat with Usmanov he said he would never do anything that would harm Arsenal  There are those who would contend that by his reported actions that he has done just that, the introduction of Usmanov has been unsettling to events off of the pitch. That he has felt the need to allow someone to leak such comments to the press could be construed as showing the damage that may have been done to his relationship with the Uzbek and in turn his ‘dream’ of returning to Arsenal. The same paper ‘reveals’ that Jens Lehmann’s comments about Manuel Almunia are fuelled by the lack of respect that he feels the Spaniard has shown him with his apparent clai

      Almunia vs. Lehmann: Round Two
In a previous article I argued that Jens Lehmann should be Arsenal's first choice goalkeeper. Other than his early blunders this season Lehmann has always been a sound 'keeper for Arsenal, and two errors are not enough to forget about a man who has spent four years with our club. When I polled the readers of this blog, however, the results differed from my beliefs - 58% of readers claimed that Manuel Almunia was the better keeper.Nonetheless, with Lehmann on the verge of a return from injury, I maintain that the German hothead should be Arsene Wenger's number one. Almunia is a great backup, and he has produced some good performances in Lehmanns absence, even holding clean sheets for 5 consecutive games prior to last Sunday's clash with newly promoted Sunderland. However, a clean sheet does not verify the skills of a goalkeeper. Our defending has been very solid this season, and many of the teams we played against were admittedly wasteful with their chances. The truth of the matter i

Almunia does a Lehmann as Arsenal win again
Arsenal scored their second win from two Champions League matches and continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 win away to Romanian champions Steaua Bucharest overnight. Arsene Wenger’s side survived some scares, most notably a miscued effort by Steaua Bucharest substitute Victoras Iacob, before Robin van Persie won the match in the 76th minute, finishing confidently from Emmanuel Adebayor’s low cross. The Romanians put in a good effort at home but on the balance of play Arsenal were deserved winners. You can see all the highlights from the match here. Despite the low scoreline both teams made plenty of good opportunities, including a disallowed goal in the opening minutes from Valentin Badea and an unbelievable miss from Cesc Fabregas from no more than six yards out only moments later. Arsenal may have been unfortunate to be denied an opening goal on 40 minutes when Gael Clichy’s deflected cross was carried over the line by Bucharest goalkeeper Ro

Blackburn Rovers 1 - Arsenal 1. Lehmann shocker
Two games, Two mistakes, Two goals conceded. This time around Jens Lehmann won't be the happiest man in the dressing room after the game. In a very physical affair at Ewood Park, Jens Lehmann's mistake meant that we have dropped points for the first time this season after Robin Van Persie put us ahead.Arsene Wenger reverted to a 4-4-2 after injuries to Rosicky and Eboue. Hleb moved to the left and Walcott on the right. New signing Eduardo teamed up with Robin Van Persie upfront. Blackburn put out a very attacking lineup, but it was soon clear what their intentions were. Right from the kick-off, the Blackburn players tried to rough up our players. And no prizes for guessing who was at his bloody best doing that. Robbie Savage. Mark Hughes may speak on and on about how his team is misunderstood and harshly treated by the referees, but these sort of showing by his team proves nothing but the fact the he loves kicking teams around. And thats exactly why Robbie Savage is in the team. That

      Lehmann Lingering too long?
So kicking off this first player review of the season, we jump in at the deep end with possibly our most controversial squad member. Is he mad? Quite possibly. Is he a very good goalkeeper? No doubt. Do the two always complement each other to productive effect? Certainly not. Coming off his performances for us last year and in the World Cup for Germany Jens' standing had never been higher. Apart from that unfortunate blip in the Champions League final he had been one of our players of the season, while being a penalty hero in the Quarter finals of the WC against Argentina. Starting the new season it seemed like he'd never been away with his idiosynchrasies failing to hide his obvious qualities. The game against Man Utd up at Old Trafford illustrated that perfectly with an early booking for handling outside the area (although probably incorrect) being dovetailed with one of the saves of the season from Ole Solksjaer late on. However as the season progressed so too

Zen Lehmann and an Emotional Hoyte
Due to a very slow Arsenal news day and a lack of time, it’s going to be a ‘Micro’ Daily Diary today. In other words, I’m using business jargon to cover my laziness. I also thought of using phrases like ‘Interim’, ‘Key notes’ etc. Anyway, The Daily Telegraph reports that Arsenal may make a move for Liverpool’s Scott Carson who is currently on loan at Charlton Athletic. Apparently he has put in some good performances during his spell at the Valley. I haven’t seen too much of the guy in action myself but I often do wonder about goalkeepers putting in good performances at relegation battling clubs. Saving 22 out of 25 shots is a completely different skill than goalkeeping at a bigger club where you may only have to deal with two or three shots at goal. I’ve always believed that maintaining concentration to pull of world-class saves for so few shots in 90 minutes requires Zen-like abilities. Something Richard Wright –
