Still extensively suffering from my man flu (but you won’t hear me complain) it was a slow start to the weekend on Saturday.  I did eventually summon the energy to get out of my jim jams and head into town with Paul for lunch.  We decided to return to the Indian Lounge on Swinegate (read [...]

      Layton promises urban gun control
It’s an orgy of political opportunism! And it will accomplish absolutely nothing, other than to disarm the very few law-abiding citizens who might actually dare to own a sidarm or target pistol in the city, in contravention of the mindless cultural taboo that sees people go into fits when guns are even mentioned. But Layton’s [...]

Jack Layton and ATM Fees Whoops
Jack Layton of the NDP has launched a campaign against ATM fees by hoping to change some details in the Bank Act. Jack, it's a good idea, to bad it isn't yours. I've noticed that this morning on Global News you were saying that Toronto Domain Bank doesn't charge for the same service that they do in Canada when you use it in the USofA, nor do banks charge for taking out your own money at an ATM in Europe. You forgot one Jack, Credit Unions here. The NDP claims to have taken up the cause 'fairness for all' but have ignore things which actually help create a fairness for all in a real way. Unions no longer support the NDP by automatic member donations, and the real reason for this is that the unions, the backbone of fair wages in Canada, don't feel their interests are represented by the NDP anymore, otherwise the changes that took place in regards to supporting the NDP via a union paycheck never would have happened. Jack, if your really wanting to help people that are on a fix

      Parliamentary comedy with Jack Layton

Layton's Clean Air Act "amendments": taking it too far?
First of all he wants to re-name it the "Healthy Air and Climate Act", probably so he can take that into the next election as a piece of "successful NDP legislation" and woo environmental voters who seem to prefer the Greens right now. What I personally think is a little unrealistic is this:To set targets that Canada must meet, such as the Kyoto Protocol 2008 to 2012 targets, an 80 per cent reduction in emissions below 1990 levels, by 2050;First of all, I would like to see the NDP present a plan (including the cost, if possible) that would meet those targets in less than six years. Preferably one that keeps our economy intact. Second of all, the 80% long-term emissions cut is way more drastic than anything the Liberals have presented. We should wait until 2012 to see what other countries are planning to do before committing to something of that nature.

      Jack Layton and the republic
Among the members of the Liberal Party of Canada (LPC), John Manley, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, has once said publicly that the Canadian parliamentary monarchy was useless. Thus, Manley is labelled as a republican who advocates the abolition of the parliamentary monarchy. Even though the abolition of the parliamentary monarchy is a very popular idea among the French-speaking people in Canada, it's not a very popular idea for most of the English Canadians. Now, Jack Layton, the leader of the weak socialist-leaning New Democratic Party (NDP), wants to bring the idea about the creation of a Canadian republic to conquer the hearts of voters from Quebec. At this very moment, I'm sure that Jack Layton is firmly believing that his new ideas will help him to win seats in Quebec. However, is that idea of creating a republic really enough for Layton? Even though most Quebeckers viscerally desire the abolition of the parliamentary monarchy, it definitely takes more than this idea t
