eBook | The Adobe Photoshop Layers
This is a great book for Photoshop. I own several Photoshop books and this one is by far the best I have read so far. From the title you might think it is just for advanced users, since it seems to be rather specialized. Even the author seems to think only experienced users will read the book. That is all wrong.By the time you have finished a third of this 250 page book, you will not only know the layers palette (there is a great diagram on page 6), and the layers menu. He sets out his idea of the thirty essential tools, commands, palettes, and menus that you will use most often (with shortcuts) all in easy to refer to tables on pages 35-41. There are some more tables for easy reference back in chapter 1.If you do the exercises, in that same first third of the book you will have experiment

      What are Adjustment Layers?
Adjustment layers are special layers in Photoshop that will apply an "adjustment" onto its own layer. There are many adjustments you can make to a layer, such as: color balance, levels, hue/saturation, etc. You create an adjustment when you feel an image needs a deliberate change or modification to your choosing. Adjustments can quickly and easily enhance your digital or scanned-in photographs and are used all of the time in creating great, layer-based graphic design. There are basically two ways to do things. Adjustments and adjustment layers.1. You can create an adjustment on an actual layer itself (by going under Image: Adjustments: and then choosing an adjustment). Note: adjustments will not work on shape layers (vectors). In this case you'll want to make duplicate the original layer be

Beauty and accessory gadgets I've done, but fashion gadgets? When I heard about My Hip-T, a new fashion gadget designed to both create layers without bulk and eliminate peekaboo panties when pairing tees with low-rise pants, I was intrigued. This could be interesting. A brand new category of apparel designed to solve a real problem, but with style. There really was only one thing to do. I turned to the Stiletto Jungle Girl Talk panel to get their opinion of this hot new fashion gadget. Michelle, Pearl, and Jennifer each gave My Hip-T the full day test. Peeling Off the Layers of Our Multi-Dimensional Reality
By: Jason and Skye MangrumMainstream science is thought to be complete, only giving credence to data that can be physically measured with the available five senses: by this way of thinking, anything that cannot be tasted, smelled, touched, heard or seen through physical means is not scientific, and can only be speculated through philosophy. Complex machines measure elements which cannot be seen or experienced by the human eye, such as microscopic particles like atoms, electrons, neutrons, protons and vibrations. However, therein lies a huge problem.According to mainstream science, our bodies are made up of physical elements, tissue and organs that operate via electrical impulses sent to and from the brain. The brain can be thought of as the "CPU" of the physical body. This concept is widely accepted, however if it were 100% accurate, then why doesn't your personal computer have consciousness? We cannot dismiss this simple but powerful fact of life and existence. It simply seemed appropriate considering my frame of mind. Ideas stacked like layers, pressing down and squeezing out. I wanted something a little um…different. Something with little or no obvious reference to reality.I cannot emphasize the importance of experimentation in painting. Sometimes you simply ‘go with the flow’ and allow your creative outpour to react to the unexpected. Chance directs and it’s often so much fun to follow and see what happens!Like being a child again. Not afraid to dabble or play or make something that to older eyes might seem foolish. There’s something so very liberating about that.Catch you laterShirley

Anatomy of a Corporate Blog: Layers and Building Blocks
When creating a successful corporate blog, there are a number of elements which come together to make it what it is. The content itself is key to this, but the words just form the final part of the blog and one which is supported by a number of other layers or building blocks. Together, they help to determine the blog’s focus and its effectiveness. The more that I work with companies (large and small) on their business blogs, the more I see how these different layers must work together to give the right results. This is the case whatever the size of the organisation, though the timescales can vary enormously. A large corporate blog may take several months to come to fruition, not because there are additional elements but due to the number of “interested parties” involved. With a small business blog, the decisions are often made instantly and so the timeframe is shorter; however, the business challenges are similar. In both business and corporate blogs, the structure a

Foot Prints and Hand Prints on Layout. (using mixture of masking and stenciling in layers technique)
I've tried to incorporate foot prints and hand prints in my latest layout titled "One Size Bigger" in my family gallery. I guess most of us had taken photographs about foot and hand and are would liked to use our foot or hand prints in that layout but are lost in ideas. I hope that this technique that I've shared here would be of any help.My technique of incorporating foot and hand prints is as follows:1. First get your hand and foot prints onto some cardstocks or papers. 2. Trim your cardstocks or papers in any design you want and placed them onto the background of your layout. 3. Create a freestyle mask and cut it out. Don't throw away the negatives (of the mask). 4. Create a design using your mask and also your negatives as stencil. This is a technique called "mixture of masking and stenciling in layers". Do as many layers as you want and let your creativity flow. 5. In my layout, I even attached the masks as part of the design. Don't you think this technique creates an intere

      Inking in Layers with Masks
This is a technique which I've used in my latest layout titled "Determination" in my family gallery. The title of the layout actually gave me the inspirations to use this technique on the layout. You need a lot of patience and determination in this technique. To create a background using this "inking in layers with masks" technique, simply follow the steps below:1. Placed your masks in any design you want on a cardstock. Stick it down using some temporary adhesives or just use a normal sticky tape and fold it in a circle. 2. Using triangle shaped cosmetic sponge, inked on all the edges of the masks. You can use whatever colours you wish.3. Remove the masks and you will have your first layer. Don't worry about its' first look as it will gets better as you add more layers to it.4. Place the masks for your second layer and inked on it again. (repeat step 2)5. Remove the masks and you will have your second layer. The different tones and shades of areas are beginning to form. The places

The Brazilian has looked slightly faster in pre-season testing but the Finn is expected to provide the more credible challenge over the course of a season. The confusion means that Massa is available at 9/4, Raikkonen at 5/2 and McLaren driver Fernando Alonso at 7/2, with Ladbrokes happy to lay best prices on all three.Indeed the Magic Sign clearly believe the first day of term is an open affair, quoting the other leading contenders far shorter than the other firms. www.followkimi.blogspot.com

“Layers Of Gold” - Using Reversed Nikkor 50mm 1.4 Lens.
This image has been posted before, … about a year ago. It did not transfer during the mass move from Blogger. Thought I would post it again. This miniature rose was photographed using the Canon 100mm macro and the Nikkor 50mm 1.4 lens attached in reverse. The petals already gave a nice layered look about them that is very appealing when viewed normally. Looking at them with the setup used, it helped to capture that layered look and keeping them at a depth that was pleasing. This particular rose is actually more of a gold color, but with the lighting used, it turned out a bit more orange. Still, … “Layers Of Gold” is how it looked to me when first viewed. 2007 - Michael Brown * Copying/downloading of images is prohibited. “Layers Of Gold”   Thanks for looking gang!

February is one of my favorite times of the year in Laredo--just starting to warm up (before we have our really hot days) and finally over the cold season (well, what passes for cold here). I've finally had to shelf one of my favorite sweaters, the big brown one, that I only get to wear a month or two out of the year. It feels odd to not have my arms covered up.Noah and I have been doing lots of outdoorsy stuff. He likes to feed the birds, especially the grackles. He can do a good imitation of a grackle call. In fact, he is really into doing imitations of all kinds of sounds--the sound the car makes when I open the door but leave the keys in the ignition, the sound the refrigerator makes because it is old, the sound of unraked leaves crunching in the front yard. I like to think that his ability to notice and replicate even the tiniest, most mundane sounds is a product of all the active (read:intentional) listening we do in music class. And, that
