Consumer Privacy Lawmaker’s Data Breached In NIH Fiasco: Where’s The Full Disk Encryption?
Here’s one for your uh‑oh files.   According to the Associated Press and other sources, the recent loss of a laptop that contained patient records for a National Institutes of Health cardiac study contained information on Representative Joe Barton, a Texas Democrat and co‑chairman of the Congressional Caucus on consumer privacy protection.   Barton suffered from a heart attack in 2005, and decided to participate in an NIH study.  He says that he wasn’t aware, until he received a notice via FedEx, that he was part of the 2500 people affected by the data breach.  Oh, I’m sorry.  Did I say 2500?  Because I meant 3000.  According to the NIH, a clerical snafu affected the tally of patients affected by the laptop theft.  I don’t doubt that

Car dealers’ bust prompts bill - Lawmaker would deny plates to illegal immigrants
HAMILTON - After three Butler County car dealerships were accused of selling fake IDs to help illegal immigrants buy cars, a state lawmaker is planning legislation that would add another step to block them from getting temporary license tags or registrations. “I can’t stop you from buying a car. I think that would be unconstitutional. You have a right to buy anything you want, as long as you have the money. But what I can do is stop you from obtaining a tag or license to put on that car,” said state Rep. Courtney Combs, R-Fairfield. Combs said Friday that his office has asked the Ohio Legislative Services Commission to research and draft a proposal that would require vehicle purchasers to prove U.S. citizenship or legal immigration status before obtaining a temporary tag

New Hampshire Lawmaker Wants to Ban DWT
I know what you are thinking, “what the hell is DWT?” Is it anything like DWI or DUI? The answer is yes and no. Yes because the “D” stands for driving, but that is where the similarities end. DWT stands for driving while texting, and it appears to be the next big issue that New Hampshire legislators have to deal with. Going after mandatory seatbelts, and cell phone bans while driving weren’t enough so they are back for more. It’s all part of the new Nanny State mentality that the influx of political refugees from surrounding states has brought with them. Screw the Mexican border, we could use a fence on the New Hampshire borders. Sometimes called “DWT” — driving while texting — the issue is beginning to gain attention after several fatal crashes in other states involving drivers who were text messaging or typing on laptop computers. State Rep. David Campbell, D-Nashua proposed measure would include laptops and game systems

OK Lawmaker Refuses Koran Push From Governor's Council
It appears that every where you turn today, that people are allowing the push of Islam for the sake of "tolerance". However one OK lawmaker has took a stand against this latest example of political correctness gone a muck. The Chairwoman of the Oklahoma Governor's Ethnic American Advisory Council is Muslim and when state Representative Rex Duncan and other lawmakers received the gift of the Koran from the council, he took action."I object to the use of the state Centennial Seal and the state Seal all in an effort to further their religion," he said. In a letter to colleges he also wrote that he rejected the gift because "most Oklahomans do not endorse the idea of killing innocent women and children in the name of ideology."Kudos to you Mr. Duncan for refusing to be pushed to a religion that teaches "intolerance" in the name of "tolerance".ref:http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,304245,00.html

Guns, TNT Found in Sunni lawmaker's Home
BAGHDAD - U.S. and Iraqi troops found a huge stash of weapons in a raid on the home of a Sunni lawmaker and detained at least a dozen men for questioning, officials said Sunday. Brig. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, spokesman for the Baghdad security plan, said the raid targeted a house of legislator Khalaf al-Ilyan — one of the three leaders of the Iraqi Accordance Front, which holds 44 seats in parliament. "During the search, we discovered many weapons and explosive materials," al-Moussawi said at a news conference. He did not say when the raid took place, but a U.S. military statement said it occurred Tuesday. Among the weapons found in the house were 33 Kalashnikov rifles, three pistols, one hand grenade, 4.4 pounds of TNT and 13 82-mm mortar rounds, al-Moussawi said. The U.S. military said eight 57-mm rockets and 5,000 rounds of ammunition were also seized, along with photos of burning British soldiers and American flag-draped coffins. U.S. military: Iraqi lawmaker is U.S. Embassy bomber
So we have discovered that a member of Prime Minister Malikis ruling coalition is a convicted terrorist but is immune from further prosecution due to diplomatic immunity. I would never suggest outright assasination but if theres any justice at all in the world this criminal will either have a traffic "accident" and die or maybe just not show up for work someday soon. In these days of political correctness such a thing isn't acceptable *wink, wink. nudge, nudge* so i guess we will just have to tolerate a known terrorist in our midst. I have to wonder what the parents of fallen soldiers would think fo their son or daughter having given their life for this terrorists continued freedom? ~RJH CNN News story link U.S. military: Iraqi lawmaker is U.S. Embassy bomber POSTED: 5:31 a.m. EST, February 6, 2007 Iraqi Parliament member convicted of bombing U.S., French embassies in '83Story Highlights:• Jamal Jafaar Mohammed's position gives him prosecutorial immunity• He supports Shiite insur

US Embassy Bomber is Now an Iraqi Lawmaker
Jamal Jafaar Mohammed was sentenced to death in Kuwait after the bombings of the US and French Embassies, but now is an Iraqi Lawmaker according the United States military intelligence.  Having this position provides Jamal with immunity from prosecution. After the attacks in 1983, which killed 5 and wounded 86, at the US and French Embassies, Jamal fled the country before the trial.  Jamal was also accused of hijacking a Kuwaiti airliner and also for the attempted assassination of a Kuwaiti prince.  However, in 2005, Jamal Jafaar Mohammed was elected into the Iraq’s Council of Representatives by representing the Babil province, which is south of Baghdad. Al-Maliki has told American intelligence to share their information with the Iraqi lawmakers, who could in turn strip Jamal of his immunity.  He also told reporters “We don’t want parliament to be a shelter for outlaws and wanted people,” and that “this is the government’s view, but the parliamen

Nebraska Lawmaker: Ban Underage Wine Consumption at Mass
Here is a case of a solution trying to find a problem. Nebraska State Sen. Lowen Kruse has introduced a bill to close loopholes in state laws that allow minors to consume alcohol. Wine served as part of holy communion religious ceremonies is one of the targets.Sen. Kruse's bill would make it illegal to allow minors to drink alcohol in their own homes or at churches during services. Catholics and several other Christian churches use wine as part of observances to replicate Christ's words at the Last Supper. The church groups are protesting the measure as a potential violation of religious rights. Sen. Kruse has said that, while the wording of the law would ban all alcohol consumption by minors in churches, he did not believe anyone would be brought up on charges if teens consumed wine as part of the rituals during a mass. Church leaders say they would have trouble knowingly violating Nebraska law during services if the bill passes. The bill would also make it illegal for parents to sha

Oklahoma Lawmaker Targets Cell Phone-Related Accidents
Four states ban drivers from making cell phone calls whilst underway (California, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York). Sixteen states ban beginning drivers from phoning from cars. In May 1999, the Oklahoma legislature rejected a bill mandating a blanket ban. The Journal Record reports state Rep. Paul Wesselhoft is shifting focus, proposing a mandatory fine of $1,000 and 20 days in jail for using a cell phone if it's determined to be a factor in an accident. Previously, Wesselhoft tried (and failed) to get OK to restrict drivers to hands-free devices. "I would much rather be on the preventative side of the issue. Unfortunately, we [now] have to punish them." Wesselhoft cited a NHTSA study revealing that drivers looked at the road less than 40 percent of the time while dialing a cell phone. He also pointed to statistics from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office citing cell phones as a contributing factor in 802 accidents in 2006. Why can't we all just hang up and driv
