In Cuba, students who enrolled in the United States educational system returned home to the island nation with a bat and a ball. The popularity of the game in Cuba was so high as to be considered part of the identity during the war for independence during the late 1800s. The

The Associated Press today reports on how thinly spread U.S. Special Forces are in many parts of the world, including Latin America, at a crucial time. "We're going to fewer countries, staying for shorter periods of time, with smaller numbers of people than historically we have done," Adm. Eric T. Olson said May 5 in his first interview since becoming commander of U.S. Special Operations Command last July. To illustrate that point, Olson said that when the 7th Special Forces Group, which is based...(read more)

Had a request for more Latin Alternative sounds, and I hope this will help quench that thirst. I had not heard of 3 Na Massa (not to be confused with 3 Na Bossa) before this disc zipped across my desk like a hummingbird seeking the first nectar of spring. And I still know very little, so perhaps I should let the band do the talking:3 Na Massa was founded by Rica Amabis, Pupillo and Sucinto Silva aka Dengue in São Paulo. Pupillo and Dengue play drums and bass while Rica is the magic cook, the producer of the trio. This is also where the band name stems from, 3 na massa - 3 in the dough, slang for something that makes your mouth water in expectation of a special treat. The idea of 3 na massa came from women. Women talking about their amorous experiences with men -- moments, events that marke

Last night before I went to sleep I set my mobile phone alarm to go off at 5:50 am. Three of my kids will be leaving at 6:30 a.m. I just want to see them off.Zzzzzz.....I felt movement inside my bedroom. I heard my son say bye mom. My bemuffled mind commanded my sleepy tongue to say "bye". Good-bye at this time? Are they leaving now?I still did not get up. My alarm clock has not rang. Maybe my son is in one of his nocturnal episodes. I heard hurried footsteps outside my door. They are leaving? Must be a figment of my imagination. It is still so early. My alarm is silent.I drifted in and out of dreamland. My mind was trying to absorbed the news on TV. Huh? Ex-president Cory Aquino has colon cancer? Is that right? Why is there a news broadcast before 6:00 am? It's pretty early. My alarm has

In this short summary, I will summarize the highlights, the key events, and of course you can't bring Latinos from around the world in one place without the drama, so we will touch on that as well. Day 1Our first day was simply work and lots of play at night. Once we touched down and checked into the Hotel Clinton in Miami, some of our clients in Miami phoned us to work on some project related work so Myk Jones and I spent about 3 hours working. Working with Latin American executives is much different then working within the U.S. Latin America has its own distinct culture and way of looking at the work. In addition, Latin American executives and American executives may not see eye-to-eye on a number of issues due to these differences in culture as well as differing economic realities.Latin executives have had to deal with dictatorial style governments and lack of strong infrastructure (Lozano, 2007). Therefore, these executives have had to live and strive in an environment where political backscratching is absolutely necessary in order to succeed and an environment where not all services available to businesses are readily available. For example, would an American businessman be able to deal with rolling black outs, lack of water
Raymond of Toulouse, as the oldest and richest of the leaders, was expected to become Jerusalem’s ruler, but refused the honour, which fell to Godfrey of Bouillon. Godfrey would not call himself king, preferring instead the title Defender of the Holy Sepulchre. Two of the great leaders were not present at the thanksgiving service of 1099. Godfrey’s brother Baldwin of Boulogne had diverted at Antioch and made himself Count of Edessa, while Bohemund – after a quarrel with Raymond – had remained at Antioch and established his independent principality. In Constantinople the news of Jerusalem’s recovery was greeted with delight, although Alexius did not expect to receive the ancient patriarchy into his hands. Still, it had been in Muslim hands for almost four centuries and was distant
Another cool blog about our websiteby Kathryn VercilloA new site is going to be launching at the beginning of the new year and it's focused on a highly specific group: Professional Latinos Looking for Love. According to a news report about the site which was published last month, the Penn alumni co-founders believe that this is a niche market which has been underserved by the online dating world. They say that although there are sites specific to meeting Latino dating needs, none of them have really gotten enough attention to become the kind of brand name that brings a big selection of people to a site's dating pool. They hope to change that with QuieroLatino.com.For more of this article, click HERE

Several recent stories highlight the growing dangers faced in Latin America, where many of the once-idealistic leaders of the old Left are now making alliances of convenience to counter U.S. influence in the region. The danger is the mixture of once-national issues with transnational threats that are beyond the control of the old Left-Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, Evo Morales in Bolivia, and others to a lesser degree. These leaders may see themselves as populists addressing...(read more)
Fausta launched "Carnival of Latin America and the Caribbean" ahead of an upcoming referendum that would make her de facto Latin American webmistress for life. She's done a lot for the poorer bloggers, and I'm personally grateful for the introductions to Naomi Campbell, Danny Glover, and Sean Penn, but I can't help but be wary of such extreme concentrations of power.
Regardless, it's nice to see that she's recovered from her embarrassment at the Latin American blogging conference when Spain's Royal Blogger, Glentico Renaldo, told Fausta: "Por que no paras de teclar?"
Anyways, check it out Fausta's blog
