Well, as you know, the snowboarding and skiing season is a short one. When I give seminars, this is the moment that I introduce the most memorable visual aids I have ever used. Picture yourself holding an empty drinking glass in one hand and a pitcher containing water in the other. The glass represents your house. For simplicity’s sake, let’s say it is worth $100,000. It’s an asset. Let’s say you have $100,000 of cash in the bank (the pitcher) - that’s liquid wealth. The glass is empty because you have not put a penny into your house, but on paper, on a balance sheet, you would still list it as a $100,000 asset. Meanwhile the pitcher of water represents another asset - $100,000 in cash.
What’s the total amount of your assets? $200,000. What happens if you pour the water into the glass? You have reduced your assets by $100,000. You’ve combined $100,000 in cash to a glass already listed as an asset worth $100,000, and all you have to show for it is $100,000. You have cut your assets in half!

Today was my last opportunity to attempt anything like a 'long run'. All the advice says that in the last 3 weeks before a marathon you can't add to your fitness, just maintain it. The daily tips on the ING NY Marathon website confirm this.Given my record has been about 4 miles pain free, for the last month, I wasn't hopeful.I decided to run at a faster pace, and also to put a strip of tape around my thigh about 3-4 inches above my kneecap. I've ordered something called a Pattstrap from the States, which i've pictured. All of the testimonials say that it really helps and reduces or elimates ITB pain. I don't think it's something you can use longterm, but if it can get me through the marathon... Anyway, I tried to simulate one of these with a piece of tape. Not a very hi-tech solution and I had to tighten it up after 2 miles, as I don't believe I had sufficient pressure applied. I'm not really sure that a piece of tape worked that well, but I did manage a better distanc
Last chance to get Rosie's present. And guess what? Just when I was about to get it, Rosie herself sms-ed me about meeting up and was there in a flash. Which made me slightly panic & decided to opt for plan b. Luckily, in the car when we were heading over to Wisma Merdeka, she mentioned about the new Linkin Park: Live In Texas album. More or less, I shifted over to plan c. Get that instead. There are two versions, one comes with a VCD, the other, a DVD version of them... live, what else? I only saw the VCD version at the 3rd music shop that I went, so I just picked it up. Besides, she doesn't have a DVD player. I also didn't have much time then, cause I had to ask her to wait while I went off to get the it. I couldn't well bring her along! Although she did know the reason I went off. :) Before I went off, she said she felt a bit awkward and started giving out hints such as getting her pirated cds (?), an original VCD movie & stuff. Not suitable lah. Mana ngam. ;p

Ok well it's not really the last chance. It's not so hard to get This Life on DVD. But it was the series finale tonight on BBC2. It really is hard to believe that it was 10 years ago when the series was first screened. I've enjoyed watching again just as much as the first time.I'd forgotten the details of the ending. I could remember some aspects of the wedding reception, but I'd completely forgotten about Milly flattening the scheming Rachel. She so reminds me of a couple of people I used to work with (one in particular) that there is, I'm slightly ashamed to say, a certain vicarious pleasure in see Rachel decked.I'm a little dubious about watching the 2nd January 'get together'. Christmas specials are often dire - over sentimental, nostalgic and saccharine sweet. Shows - like Ally McBeal - with a witty quirkyness descend into maudlin sentimentality just because its Xmas.
