It tasted so wonderful. And it wasn't even my favorite kind. But apparently a nearly two-month hiatus from all kinds will make any kind taste like nectar from the gods. Although it was only a beer. It was delicious. Perhaps made even better by being free. And the exchanges of laughter and the entertaining stories that accompanied it. Inevitably, the crowd started to dwindle until it was only two.

Getting the most out of your digital video camera can mean being able to create some really cool stuff. You just have to step outside the manual a bit and find the cool things you can do with your digital video camera and your editing software. We have all seen them in a movie or a TV show, those very cool shots where they speed up time and capture a long segment of time and condense it into a very short amount of video. My very favorite example of this technique was an arty movie of many years ago that was called Koyaanisqatsi. In that movie they had some very interesting segments where they did time lapse effects to show driving on a bridge, flowers growing, clouds flying by and so on. Aloha, We've had a heck of a week here. Following the floods of last week, we had a single decent diving day and then things started to go downhill. By earlier this week, pertty much every boat in Kona was off the water due to a cold front that brought in strong southwest winds to do battle with the northwest surf. The winds started getting fairly strong over land a couple of days ago and we've had a bunch of power outages. We've spent most of the last 2 days without power at home. Yesterday brought in another freak rain. I'd heard last week we had something in the neighborhood of 7.5 inches of rain in a few hours. Last night it was close. It didn't seem like it rained that hard for that long, but our neighbor's 4 inch rain gauge was overflowing after he emptied it yesterday morning. Pat talked to someone locally at her work that had a 6 inch gauge overflow yesterday. At any rate we had rivers in the yard again just 20 minutes into the rain, at least they didn't take mo

Well tomorrow is halloween. Halloween has become a lot more since having kids. We have already sliced and diced two pumpkins here at our house, and will do another one tomorrow. The kids have their costumes picked out and pretty much everything is set. When I started thinking about dinner tonight I started to think Italian and that evolved into Lasagna and Italian Herb Bread. About half way through both projects I suddenly remembered I only had one oven. Sigh . . . Kitchen Warfare and not the good kind. Calculating everything out there is no way of getting everything done and plated on time without the bread and lasagna occupying the oven at the same time. I had to transfer the already risen dough from a large flat pan to a section of aluminum foil to get it to fit in my small oven. This worked out really well all things considered but in the process of making space the oven temperature dropped which ultimately caused the bread to only rise about 75% of what it should have. It was still very good and the subsequent loaf baked properly was perfect.

One thing about living here in Saskatchewan is that we can always talk about the weather. The forecast here for the next few days is for a deep freeze, day time highs of -20 Celsius. Yes that is the HIGH. That does not include the wind chill. What does any of that have to do with this video, this video is where I want to go this week. Time-Lapse Photography is the method of capturing one frame of film at set intervals. When played back, the subject appears to animate. Typically this is done with an anchored tripod (such as with the orchid above), to capture movement imperceptible to the human brain.
