"American Idol" finalist LaKisha Jones returned to her native Michigan for a warm welcome from some of her biggest fans. Gov. Jennifer Granholm and hundreds of others greeted Jones on Monday at the state Capitol, where she performed two of her best "Idol" tunes "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls and "God Bless the Child." Fans held signs, snapped photos and cheered Jones along as she continued a homecoming trip through Michigan before leaving to rehearse for an upcoming tour. "My life is at a complete 360," the 27-year-old singer told reporters. "God has really blessed me tremendously." Jones will participate in the "American Idol" tour this summer. She was to leave Tuesday for rehearsals in Los Angeles. The single mother said she plans to make a home in Houston, where she lived more than six years before moving to Baltimore for a bank-teller job

May 9th, 2007 Bottom Two: Lakisha Jones, Blake Lewis Leaving this week: Lakisha Jones Ryan talked a little bit about the future Idol Live Tour, which will take place after the show finishes. It will include 50 shows and all of the top 10 idol finalists. Pink was on the show tonight, and performed her newest hit “Who Knew.” She sounded really good and looked very pretty, but I actually didn’t like the back-up singing in the song. I just wanted to hear her sing, but the back-up singers overpowered her in some parts. The top four then did their group performance. Melinda, for the first time ever, was off-key in the beginning. It must be that the songs are really difficult to sing, because just like last night, it was a boring performance, and there were a lot of off-key notes. I knew it was either going to be Blake or Lakisha that was going home last night and unfortunately it was Kiki. I’ll miss her! The remaining three Idols go visit their hometowns, and I just read that Jordin will be visiting Phoenix tomorrow. We are so proud of our Arizona girl! I didn’t watch the show and I just learned about her being booted off the show when I was watching the news. When I did watch American Idol a few times this season I was really impressed with Lakisha and even more impressed with how Simon seemed to really like what she was about. So why is it that she was the front runner for so long but got booted off before they got to the final two? Its pretty simple they have already had one fat person win when Rueben won a few years ago. Jennifer Hudson doesn’t count because she became fat for a role in a movie but has since lost the weight. Lakisha was voted off because in the big circle of the American Idol universe they cant have to many fat folks representing the “idol” part of America. Maybe it was all the buzz that came from us fat folks when she wore the dress from IGIGI. I doubt it though. I must admit that I am not a fan of American Idol and though I mentioned the rise of Lakisha Jones on the show I missed her performance on Tuesday where she was seen wearing one of gowns from IGIGI. I have to be honest, I do not have much time on my hands to watch a lot of TV. But every now and again I do like to curl up on the couch, with a nice cup of tea, some biscuits and watch some good TV.
