Kuala Lumpur: Purple Cane Tea Restaurant
After relaxing for a couple of days in Langkawi, we returned to the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur. We arrived in the early evening, but had arranged dinner on the way back with a couple of Louis' friends, Nick and Kelvin. They picked us up from the hotel about 9pm. We'd let them decide where to take us for dinner, and we soon arrived at a place called the Purple Cane Tea Restaurant. Nick explained that every dish on the menu has somehow been prepared with tea as a prominent ingredient. It sounded quite an interesting concept.

      Kuala Lumpur: Madam Kwan’s
We're on holiday! Greetings from Kuala Lumpur. More specifically, Midvalley Megamall, in a restaurant called Madam Kwan's. Madam Kwan's started out in a single shop along Jalan Imbi (one of the busiest main streets in KL), originally named 'Sakura Restaurant'. They became famous for their Nasi Lemak, Curry & Assam Fish Head. Then they rebranded and opened new outlets (with an upmarket modern decor) under the name of 'Madam Kwan's' which offered the favourites from the old Sakura menu plus new ones like the super yummy 'Nasi Bojari', aka '3 Colour Rice'. We met up with Jin, one of Louis' uni friends who was back in KL for the holidays, as well as another friend (and part time personal tour guide), Clayton. After a day of trawling through shops we'd certainly worked up a decent appet

another weekend spent at Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur
It's always nice to watch out for Christmas lights every year no matter where you are. Last weekend, Clayton and myself spent our afternoon in The Pavilion since we were home alone. The Christmas decorations in this new mall was impressive and it was just the right thing to do for their first Christmas. The white Christmas theme captured lots of families and leisure photographers, definitely a popular backdrop for tourists in the Bukit Bintang area.We stopped by to listen to the Christmas emsemble played on the all white stage with the huge white Christmas backdrop. Besides witnessing the Christmas spirit in Pavilion, I was there to check out the new Food Republic which is a not-to-be-missed food court if you are in the mall. Hailed from Singapore, this concept was set to attract families, tourists and individuals. It was hard to resist those attractive food stalls since each one was handpicked for their good food and traditional heritage and popularity. I must say that this is the mo

      Petronas Towers, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
Petronas Towers, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Originally uploaded by hobosinlove So the Hobos have made it to Kuala Lumpur after quite a bit of troubles. We had to pay a hefty fine in Thailand because we had overstayed our transit visas. We had thought all along that we were traveling on tourist visas, which allow stays of up to 60 days. We were actually on transit visas which only allow 30 days! We had been told by the US Embassy that if a police officer had asked us for our passports for any reason and saw that we had overstayed our visa he would have taken us to jail. Needless to say we were quite freaked out and sought the fastest way out of the country. We then heard that if we could make it to the airport we would only have to pay a fine per day because the immigration officers are easier to deal with than the regular police. So then we booked a flight to Kuala Lumpur and had to forfeit the deposit on our apartment due to an early checkout. Needless to say, overstaying

Beyonce Cancels Show In Kuala Lumpur
Beyonce Knowles cancels show in Kuala Lumpur Beyonce Knowles has canceled her first ever concert in Malaysia but will instead perform in Jakarta, Indonesia on November 1st, which is not as strict about how performers dress at a concert. Her talent agency, International Creative Management, has said that Beyonce’s November 1st show in Kuala Lumpur was canceled because of a scheduling conflict. Malaysian government demands that female performers cover up from the top of their chests to their knees, including their shoulders, and with Beyonce’s sexy look, that would be difficult for girlfriend to adhere to those strict rules. Gwen Stefani recently performed in Malaysia, and made “a major sacrifice” by wearing clothing that didn’t show much skin - quite different from her usual sexy self. She also faced cancellation of her show if she did not adhere to the rules. beyonce+Knowles, cancels, Kuala+Lumpur

      Rosli Mee Rebus, Kuala Lumpur
It’s the Merdeka (Independance) Weekend as Malaysia celebrates its 50th Year of Independance. This post is queued to publishing on the 31st August, 2007 to coincide with National Day and it is a food review of Encik Rosli’s Mee Rebus which is one of the better Mee Rebus I have eaten. Rosli Mee Rebus is located behind Wisma Haniffa, off Jalan Masjid India in downtown Kuala Lumpur. Set somewhere in the middle of a row of street hawkers is Rosli Mee Rebus, with its distinguishing green coloured signboard. Encik Rosli has been cooking and selling Mee Rebus for more than 30 years. A Malaccan by birth, his growing up years was in Singapore when his father was then posted there in the military. As he started work, he became an apprentice to a Javanese hawker who sold Mee Rebus in Singapore. However, he did not manage to learn the recipe despite working with the Javanese for 8 years until the Javanese’s retirement at the age of 78. He moved to Kuala Lumpur in the late 60s a

Well, I’m not a fan of Jimmy His styles and designs are too feminine for me but I wouldn’t mind one of his classic collection for those special dinner functions. Then again, my credit card may not be too pleased with this idea.

Kuala Lumpur Job Carnival, UTM Semarak, 1-2 Sept 2007
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Jalan Semarak campus is organizing the Kuala Lumpur Job Carnival (Karnival Pekerjaan) which will be held on 1 and 2 September 2007. This is part of the effort by the Ministry of Human Resources (Jabatan Tenaga Kerja) and the Electronic Labor Exchange (ELX) to provide better access to job opportunities for Malaysian job seekers. If you are going there using public transport, the easiest way is to use the Putra LRT and stop at Damai station. From there, take taxi or bus. And please, please don’t forget to bring the most updated copies of your resume and the relevant copies of certificates if you intend to apply for jobs. The Jalan Semarak Campus is the secondary to their main campus in Skudai, Johor Bahru. But I believe few would know that The Semarak Campus is where the UTM was originally born. It all started way back before the Malaysia independence, when a technical school was established in Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Kuala Lumpur and then upgraded

Kuala Lumpur -or KL as it is commonly called- lies in a valley surrounded by jagged hills. Kuala Lumpur was originally a mining settlement in the late 1800s where tin was discovered at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers. Although KL's tin trade has declined since, the prosperity of the city has continued to grow. Today, KL is home to 1.5 million people within the city proper, and more than 6 million in the surrounding metropolitan area. It is the political and cultural centre of the nation.
