OMG!
Filed under: MMO1UP recently added some fuel cells to the fire of the relatively aged rumor that the result of Bioware and LucasArts' recent collaboration is an MMORPG which takes place in the long-winded universe of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. While one could make a case for and against this claim, a script for the game, which apparently landed in the laps of 1UP's digital ink slingers, could prove conclusive evidence for the online epic -- if it's completely legit, that is.The script details the online game as a "role-playing game set in the historical past of the Star Wars universe," where "Jedi and Sith battle across the galaxy." While those two phrases could apply to many chapters of the Star Wars mythos, the tipster who submitted the script was convinced it carried Biowar
Diablo 3
With the dawn of great games announced and released this year, Blizzard seems to be prepping up for another MMO as developer and designer positions for a a game tagged as “TOP SECRET” and “NEXT GEN MMO” is listed in Blizzard’s job application page. The “TOP SECRET” tag started appearing on the eve of halloween. Blizzard, earlier this year, also mentioned that they had 3 projects to announce and so far they’re done with 2 of them; World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King and Starcraft 2. So another WoW expansion or another Starcraft RTS franchise is out of the list. The only ones that could fit in the puzzle are either Starcraft Ghost or Diablo 3, but since Starcraft Ghost can can hardly become an MMO given the limitations presented by the storyline and the “Ghost”-part in the title, it can be ruled out, a MMO-style Diablo 3 project is your best bet. But of course, it can be another IP game.
Well, whatever it is, w
Ah, CVG and Knights of the Old Republic franchise rumours. In April, they told us BioWare were making a KotoR MMO. Now, their latest speculative offering (via Official Xbox Magazine) is KotoR 3 by Christmas, or, more generously, 2008.
A Christmas release would fall two months after highly anticipated space RPG Mass Effect arrives on the Xbox 360. The very same platform CVG has its rumoured KotoR
Electronic Gaming Monthly, who used to be journalists, is now reporting that BioWare has formed a new team to develop a new Knights of the Old Republic game. One problem, apparently it’s not KotOR 3.
EGM has reported that BioWare has formed a team of Super friends to develop a Massively Multiplayer KotOR. This is a bad idea, plain and simple. The MMO market is already overly saturated with games piled upon games. Guild Wars, WoW, Everquest & Everquest 2, Dark Age of Camelot, City of Heroes/Villians, The Matrix Online (more or less), Second Life, not to mention that there already IS a Star Wars MMO, Star Wars Galaxies.
Now, unless LucasArts is willing to slap SOE in the face by letting someone else develop a new Star Wars MMO, I don’t see this happening, even though I am sure BioWare WOULD make a great MMO. For now, in any case, I hope it’s not true. I just want there to be a KotOR 3 to tie up the story, and then… go nuts with it. I’d love to play a K
(WRITER’S NOTE: Big thanks to Devon for bringing this to my attention. To quote Hank Scorpio “When you go home tonight, there’s gonna be a new story added to your house”)
The cool cats over at StarWarsKnights.com have posted an interview they recently conducted with the two owners of the LucasArts Fan Network, named “Aristotle and Visac.” Hey, it was an online chatbox interview — those aren’t their real names. During the interview, they let loose a rather large hint regarding KotOR 3.
When asked about KotOR 3, “Aristotle” had this to say:
Ah… the KOTOR 3 question…. let me just say … don’t forget the NDA we are under… but I will say stay tuned
Now, this is what I like to call the “wink and nudge” response. Where they are essentially telling you that they ARE working on it, but can not actually come out and say “yes, it’s being worked on.” 2K Sports pulled the same
Ok, I am an absolutely HUGE fan of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games. Absolutely freaking huge. I have, at one time or another, owned all four versions on the market (Two for the Xbox, Two for the PC), and even broke them out to play on my Xbox 360. For those of you who have tried to play them on the 360… it’s not pleasant. So, when I was perusing the Xbox forums, and saw the threat entitled “Knights of the Old Republic 3 info” you can only imagine how stoked I was.
On the Official Xbox Forums, a man claims that he has an old colleague working at Pandemic (not too unbelievable — we all have to work, right?), and that this colleague has learned that the order to develop the KotOR 3 website has been given! That would mean, obviously, that there must be a KotOR 3 game coming. After all, why else would you want a KotOR 3 website?
Read after the break for details…
