      N. Koreans Taped At Syrian Reactor
A video taken inside a secret Syrian facility last summer convinced the Israeli government and the Bush administration that North Korea was helping to construct a reactor similar to one that produces plutonium for North Korea's nuclear arsenal, according to senior U.S. officials who said it would be shared with lawmakers today. The officials said the video of the remote site, code-named Al Kibar by the Syrians, shows North Koreans inside. It played a pivotal role in Israel's decision to bomb the facility late at night last Sept. 6, a move that was publicly denounced by Damascus but not by Washington.Sources familiar with the video say it also shows that the Syrian reactor core's design is the same as that of the North Korean reactor at Yongbyon, including a virtually identical configuration

Cheerful Koreans Running Wild in the Streets!!!
I was walking from church on this rainy Easter morning when I was stopped by a big group of really happy and friendly Koreans. I wasn't quite sure what was happening, but then someone handed me this.Yes, someone stopped me on the street and, with a big smile, handed me an Easter egg and wished me a happy Easter. They asked me a few questions and I told them I was just coming from Easter service at the local Anglican church. It turns out the group was a group of young people and some church elders from the local Presbyterian Church. They'd split up into small groups and are wandering around this morning passing out Easter eggs as I type. Back home a big group comes my way and I brace myself to bust out into a sprint. I thought it was another example of how Korea, particularly the city

South Koreans Connect Through Search Engine
SEOUL, South Korea, July 4 — Park Hye Ran, a 15-year-old high school student, wanted to know the shortest route from a bus terminal in the southern port city of Busan to a fish market to the east. That is precisely the kind of question that Cho In Joon, 50, a seller of lottery tickets in Busan, loves to answer. Sitting at a computer installed at his street kiosk, Mr. Cho posted a reply for Ms. Park — and for other Naver.com users who might one day ask the same question — with instructions on where she should switch trains, which station exit she should take and how long it would take to walk from there to the market. He even attached a map of the market area. Thanks to Mr. Cho and tens of thousands of other volunteer respondents, Web users in one of the world’s most-wired countries seldom “Google” anything. They “Naver” it. Tapping a South Korean inclination to help one another on the Web has made Naver.com the undisputed leader of Internet search in the country. It h

What sort of English are they teaching the Koreans?

(They should maybe rename it 'See English, Read Korean' but I guess it doesn't have quite the same ring to it). There is a section titled 'Real Vocabulary', contributed by Kenny Kim, which consists of six sentences with multiple choice options to fill in the blanks for the missing words. Each week I look at it and spot at least one grammatical error or nonsensical sentence. Two weeks ago he set a record with five out of six sentences having at least one problem. My copy of the newspaper has now been recycled and sadly they do not seem to archive that section of the paper on the web, so I cannot share with you his mistakes.Last Saturday's issue was a welcome change when I could not find any mistakes in that section.
