Societies that cannot stare the truth in the eye and call it by its correct name will perish. They will pack up under the burden of dishonesty, hypocrisy and multiple standards. A Genetically Modified contamination register report by both the Greenpeace International and Green-watch details 39 new cases of GM crop contamination in 23 countries over the past one year. Most of this contamination involved such stable crops as maize and rice, and included cotton, bananas and papaya. Zimbabwe's high court has turned down the MDC's request to have the results of the presidential election last month immediately released. Al Jazeera reports "[i]t took no more than two minutes for the high court judge to deliver his judgment."

Most people only see the Aberdare country club because it is the departure base for the Ark, A night game viewing lodge. The minivan disgorges their international, camera toting cargo before lunch. After lunch the dark green ark buses roll out heading for the Aberdare forest. The crowds come back next morning looking weary and disheveled to herded back into minivans and on to the next stop. For those who have the time to stay however the Aberdare country club can be a supremely quiet and relaxing getaway. The main house, a romantic stone building with red tiled roof was built in 1937 by the Lyon family from England. They named the house "steep" because of its position on the side of the hill commanding sweeping views in all directions. The Lyon’s were part of the notorious happy valley s

While Zimbabwe awaits either the results of its elections (or a judge’s order to release them), Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party and their supporters are attacking the opposition throughout the country. Violence began last week, but has now escalated into an all-out campaign of suppression.
The opposition, for its part, is calling on other African countries to intervene. But even though leaders like South Africa’s Jacob Zuma are beginning to speak out, it seems international institutions like the AU will have little power to affect the outcome in Zimbabwe. Even though the warning signs of violence, fraud, and disenfrachisement have been there for weeks now, the international consequences for Mugabe probably won’t go far beyond symbolic sanctions.

The National Environment Management Authority has introduced new regulations on gas emissions, signalling a possible rise in the cost of producing industrial goods.Under the rules, industrialists will be required to operate within set emission limits or face heavy penalties for failing to comply.Although Nema, the environment watchdog, says the aim is to curb rising levels of industrial pollution in the country, the rules will require industrialists to acquire new production techniques at a heavy cost.

The best Private Game Lodges are very often not in the popular holiday brochuresChoosing a Kenya Safari as part of your Holiday in Kenya can be difficult, and then on top of that there can

The lapse and failure of the Koffi Annan mediation talks leading to their suspension brings to the fore the selfish nature and hypocrisy of Kenyan leaders. They have chosen the path of death and destruction under self deceit that they will not be harmed personally! It is indeed grim to arrive at such a conclusion and sincere Kenyans dont want to accept this as the eventuality.

Stuart, a friend and colleague just came back from his Kenya mission where he supported the aid surge after the election trouble. When he told me he brought some pictures back, I thought it would be about crowds fighting with riot police, burning houses and charred cars. But most of his pictures were about children. And they touched me. I don't know why. Maybe because of the innocence they radiate, amidst violence and hatred. Maybe because while their country threatened to go up in flames, these children continued to smile. Pictures courtesy Stuart Zimble (WHO/WFP)

I asked for feedback from you and got quite some. Some privately and some publically – thank you all who took the time to answer. One of the feedbacks I heard more than once was, that you are interested in my view on the region and the security there. So, what I will try to do is giving you some insights in trips I do to more "exotic" places (so I will most probably not cover my trips to Brussels and London next week).
So, I just came back today from Nairobi, Kenya. Let me share my impressions and my program. We mainly did three things
Visited a call center called KenCall
Did some internal business stuff (which I will not be talking of J)
Visited some NGOs helping the people in the slums.
So, there are two main areas to share with you, let's start with KenCall: KenCall is a classical outsourcer for call center services. The interesting thing were the regulative hurdles they had to overcome. As an example: In order to use Voice over IP, they need a certification. However, the govern

By: Alex LandinKenya is situated in East Africa and shares its borders with Somalia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda and Sudan. Kenya has one of the greatest or biggest wildlife habitats in the world and it is called the Masai Mara, which sees the annual migration of Wildebeast. Some of the other big animals found in Kenya include buffalo, lion, leopard, rhinoceros and elephants. Although Kenya has some natural resources and wildlife, there is still a lot more that Kenyan people need in terms of stabilizing the economy. There is poverty, lack of healthcare facilities, lack of education and poaching and amidst all this the Kenyan and the Masai tribal people are trying hard to carve an existence. If you are interested in overseas volunteer work and want to add to a cause then volunteering in Kenya is a great opportunity! Mahela Jayawardene's Sri Lanka smashed the record score in Twenty20 internationals to trounce Kenya by 172 runs at the Wanderers.Jayawardene's men piled up a gargantuan 260 for six after being asked to bat first by the African minnows in the World Twenty20 contest and powered their way past Australia's previous high of 221 for six against England in Sydney earlier this year. Master blaster Sanath Jayasuriya savaged 88 from only 44 balls and Jayawardene scored at an even quicker rate, his ability to execute elegant strokes powerfully reaping 65, off only 27 deliveries. Yet they were outdone by a spectacular cameo from Jehan Mubarak, who struck five sixes and three fours to reach 46 from a dozen balls. One more boundary would have obliterated Mohammad Ashraful's record for the fastest half-century, a 20-ball effort against West Indies yesterday, but he missed the final delivery of the innings, sent down by Peter Ongondo, completely. A pastor is fighting for his life after protesting villagers mutilated his genitals. (They cut off his balls!) This article is also known as; "Don't fuck with the locals!"The mob was bitter that a man, who the preacher had promised to cure through prayer, died during the ‘healing.’On Monday evening, villagers burnt the pastor’s church, locally known as Oterona in Gesiaga village, Nyamira District, but the evangalist escaped. Police said the villagers caught up with the man in his hideout. The preacher was admitted to Nyamira District Hospital where superintendent, Dr Morris Odhiambo, described the pastor’s condition as stable, but declined to comment further. Residents said the sect does not believe in conventional medicine and local OCPD, Mr Joseph Kimeli, said no arrests had been made. (If anyone's wondering, this is the reason I will never go do missionary work!)Your "stay at home" scribe;Allan W JanssenAllan W Janssen is the author of The Plain Truth About God at http://w

A BRILLIANT 62 from opening batsman Morris Ouma, coupled with a patient 24 from captain Thomas Odoyo, handed Kenya a thrilling two-wicket win over Sri Lanka A in the tri-series match at the Nairobi Gymkhana overnight. Medium-pacer Peter Ongondo had earlier restricted Sri Lanka to 194, taking five wickets to bundle out the tourist in 48 overs. Ongondo picked up the first three wickets in his opening spell, and later returned to take two more after Sri Lanka was sent in to bat after losing the toss. But it was the outstanding performance of Ouma which laid the base for Kenya's victory. He put on 87 for the third wicket with Tanmay Mishra after the host lost two successive wickets in the seventh over. Fellow opener David Obuya made only seven and Nehemiah Odhiambo was out for a duck, with Chanaka Welegedara claiming both wickets to leave the home side 2-14. Ouma's 50 came off 52 balls including eight boundaries and a six. Odoyo took a cautious approach in hitting the winning runs,
Several Tour companies said visitors are frequently complaining of lack of glaciers on Africa's second largest mountain, a stark contrast to the captivating visual impression found in books, travel magazines and documentaries. The glaciers are large, slow moving rivers of ice, formed from compacted layers of snow, which slowly deforms and flows in response to gravity. According to one of the scientists working with UNEP, Mr Christian Lambrechts, Mt Kenya has lost 80 percent of the glaciers and snow cover over the last 10 years.

As we first headed into the bush we saw the dwellings of the Maasai people. Despite being the most well-known, the Maasai are actually only a minor tribe in Kenya – there are many others much larger. But their distinctive dress and customs, and their close proximity to many of the big game parks, have made them the most familiar to tourists, and they are a strong presence during our trip.
This east-African country produces some of the best coffee in the world. Caribou carries only the extraordinary AA grade, which is the largest, densest, and most intense bean available. They’ve concluded, after tasting thousands of samples, that Kenya AA is always superior to the best Kenya AB. Due to the numerous small lots that we buy, each month brings a different treat. All of their Kenya AA has a sparkling brightness and a huge velvety body that serves as a backdrop for wonderful blackberry notes.
