Video Games: Keeping kids off drugs...
"You want to go to that party man? There's going to be some good stuff! Let's go have a good time and get laid!"Sadly, this is the common way of thinking for many teens and I don't see this thought process changing anytime soon.More and more teens every day decide to try things they would never normally try. From alcohol, to sex, to drugs. From never trying it, to using it on a regular basis is how it usually goes.Of course, there are many ways of keeping teens, young adults, and even children from experimenting with these dangerous substances and acts. Family sports, activities, and events are great anti-drugs as they are often advertised on the commercials. What's a surprise to be no surprise; Yes! A surprise to be no surprise, is that video games aren't any part of these anti-drug ads.

What Every Parent Should Know About Keeping Kids Safe in the Winter
Winter is probably one of the most exciting times of year for kids: snow days, ice-skating, sledding, and snowmobiles! Winter also brings the need to take extra steps to keep your family safe in the cold. Here are some tips to stay safe—and have fun!—in the cold. Scope out the sledding hill. If your kids want to go sledding, make sure they take a good look at the hill first—are there any trees they are going to run into? Is the hill too steep? Also, make sure there are no rocks and that the hill isn't near a busy road. Healthy on the home front. It seems like winter brings along with it lots more cases of the cold and the flu. Although it's not entirely preventable, make sure your family is washing their hands, especially after coughing, sneezing, and blowing a runny nose. You can also help boost your child's immune system with plenty of sleep and lots of healthy foods. SPF on a snow day? You betcha—snow reflects nearly 85% of ultraviolet rays, which means your

      Keeping kids safe online
It is very hard to keep tabs on the kids for every minute of the day; it is so easy for them to gain access to some sites that are not really suitable for children of any age. This where KidSafe comes in very handy, its like a flash drive but with security in mind. In order to gain access to the computer the key will have to be placed into the usb port. Each key is unique and is impossible to duplicate any key. This is a great way to make sure that your kids are safe from all of the traps and dangers that lurk around the Internet. Features: High security access control system Low-level Windows integration Stealth technologies to prevent removal One-key, one computer Robust fail-safe procedures Safe Mode boot prevention Fully configurable 1024-bit RSA key signatures The Kid Safe security key will cost around the $59.99 mark. Keeping Kids Busy on Roadtrips
If you're like me I get tired of the toys my kids get in fast food kid meals. The toys are never very creative, the kids play with them for two seconds and then I get to step on them when I'm walking down the hall at night (the toys not the kids).I bought a car litter bag--not as big as the one pictured here though that one would do nicely as well--and kept all Happy Meal toys there for the kids to play with while in the car or on road trips. The toys are more appealing to the kids when they're stuck in the car with nothing to do and the toys don't litter my house. The bag I found had Velcro straps that allowed it to be hung from the bag of the driver's seat within a child's reach. The other solution is to just throw the toys out before you leave the restaurant. Also an easy way to keep the clutter down--I've done that too.Check in with Rocks in My Dryer every Wednesday for other good tips.Technorati tags: WFMW, toys, road trips, parenting, vacations

MySpace - Keeping Kids Safe on MySpace
Keeping Kids Safe on MySpace There are a lot of teens who are using MySpace. Individuals over the age of 14 are eligible to use MySpace so as a result there are many teenagers who are members of the online MySpace community. These young members may appreciate the opportunity to express their creativity, express their feelings, meet new friends or stay in touch with their old friends but they should also be aware that there is the potential for danger on any Internet community. Making kids aware of this is helpful but there is also a certain degree of parental involvement which is necessary to keep kids safe when they are online. Enforcing Household Internet Rules Kids who use MySpace, or the Internet in general, should be restricted to a few household rules regarding Internet usage. Putting these rules in place can be very helpful in reducing the potential for danger. Some of the general Internet rules parents might consider are: * Do not post full name and address online or even schoo

Keeping Kids Warm in the Cold
Where I live, we’ve had nearly three weeks of temperatures with highs in the single digits, with only about 24 hours of a break. And I have crazy kids. By crazy, I mean that when my older daughter was two, I regularly found her on our deck, in winter, wearing a tank top and a sock. Or nothing (and understand that I found her within seconds of her going outside). We never could get her to keep her coat on in the car, and now, at nearly eight, we still can’t. She keeps them on the floor underneath her seat and will only put them on if we go into a store as a concession to my “silly” concerns. She’s the craziest of them. But the ten-year-old will often go out with a windbreaker over a t-shirt when there’s snow on the ground, or in Crocs. And the two-year-old tried the same thing for the first time when it was three degrees out–she rapidly changed her mind, though. (Really, they come by this naturally. The one thing I repeatedly got in troub

      Pediatricians Suggest Keeping Kids Active
By MICHAEL HILL (Associated Press Writer) Associated Press GUILDERLAND, N.Y. - It's cold. The noon sky is gray and the sledding hill is all ice. Dave Hilderbrandt stands at the crest, watching his 8-year-old daughter and her friend gleefully zoom down on their plastic sled. Neither cold nor snow can keep the Hilderbrandts from getting regular exercise. "We've been out here in blizzards," said
