Freebie Review 12 - Kashi Snack
Folks, I’m proud to present the first freebie review made by somebody other than myself or Adam here on HIF! If anybody is interested in sending in their own reviews, send it to me on the forums and I’ll be glad to post it. - Goob Hello everyone! Shaynon here. This is hif’s first written freebie review. It’s a little different from the video ones, but still the same idea. Okay, today I am reviewing the “Kashi snack”. This was posted back around August 28th. I choose the “Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Cookie” as my snack and received mine on September 20th. It came in cardboard packaging with the cookie inside. I was surprised at the size of the cookie. It wasn’t a little sample bite-sized cookie, as I expected it to be, but instead was actually pretty big. The texture of the cookie was moist, no dry freebie here. And you can actually see the little grains in the cookie sticking out. It has all your healthy stuff in it along with chocolate chi

      Free Kashi Snack
My wife calls me a human garbage disposal. The five second rule is more like a ten second rule for me if I watch it drop, and even if it’s been a little bit longer, I’m not afraid to sniff and nibble. Because, well, let’s face it: when you’re hungry, you’re hungry. And I’ve been going through our pantry and eating all of the old food that we need to get rid of. Granola bars that expired last June, popcorn that says “Good before 8/30/06,” and the Sty Stallone Protein Pudding that I think said 2005 on the side of the nuclear proof style can. It tasted a little tinny, but it hit the spot. Needless to say, I don’t think I can wait too long for this free Kashi snack. It was already long enough of a wait to click the “Free Snack” button, then the “Skip” button, just so I could request it that I found myself peeling open a Larabar, throwing away the half with the light spiderweb like mold, and snarfing down th

      Goji Berries and Kashi
In the past few months I've blogged about goji berries a few times since I bought a bag at Costco and looked them up on the internet to find out just how healthy they are. They are an amazing little fruit, but I have to admit dear readers, that you can only eat so many dried goji berries when you are just not a dried fruit kind of girl. I don't eat raisins, I don't care for dried cherries or

Cereal smack down: Kashi cereals vs. Fiber One Raisin Bran
Here were our contenders for the Kashi vs. Fiber One smackdown (from top left, going clockwise): Kashi Go Lean Crunch Fiber One Raisin Bran Clusters Kashi 7 Whole Grain Puffs Kashi Go Lean TasteMy four-year-daughter Lucie (aka "Boo Girl") and I sat down and sampled three Kashi cereals and General Mills' new Fiber One Raisin Bran Clusters. We did not try the cereals with milk - Lucie likes her cereal dry and crunchy. Fine with me. Based on taste alone, Lucie liked the Kashi Go Lean Crunch. I preferred the Fiber One Raisin Bran Clusters. Both were yummy, but Fiber One has a maple syrup flavor that won me over. I liked the added raisins, too. Kashi Go Lean was pretty good, but Kashi Puffs are pretty boring. You'll need honey, milk, yogurt and/or fruit to dress it up. NutritionAll the cereals have their strengths and weaknesses, and should be evaulated on what's important to you - calories, fiber, natural ingredients, etc. (Click on the cereal name for nutritional detai

      Meritt's Kashi Cookies
No matter how you cut it, a cookie is a cookie is a cookie. You're going to get things like flour, sugar and fat in it. So if you can make one that has at least some healthy redeeming qualities it can only be an improvement, right? I made this recipe up this week when I wanted to use up the last of the large box of Kashi cereal I had bought at Costco a couple months ago. I used Kashi "Go Lean

      Kashi frozen entree
I'm sitting here, typing to you wearing a pair of pants that hasn't fit me in...well, a while. I'm not sure why, because my weight is all over the place and when I measure myself I'm pretty sure I'm not measuring in the same spot every time but hey, these pants fit and that makes me happy. But that's not what I wanted to write about today. The other thing I'm doing right now is eating lunch. I know, you're not supposed to eat while you're doing other stuff. You should be mindful of your food and all that and if there's anyone who knows that it's me because I am the queen of saying, "Did I just eat that whole thing?!" But I couldn't help but tell you about this stuff I'm eating! It's Kashi's Lemongrass Coconut Chicken frozen entree and it's fabulous. I mean, it tastes wholesome and filling and the texture is perfect and ...just, yum.At 300 calories and 8g of fat (4g saturated fat) it's not exactly what you might call diet food. But the serving is perfectly sized--c'mon, y

      Kashi Halwa (White Pumpkin Halwa)
My MIL has so many traditional recipes in her magic hat and always surprises me with one thing or the other. I always wonder if I will have that kind of enthusiasm, patience and energy to cook complicated and very time consuming delicacies. She always makes me speechless with her delicious parade of dishes. I feel like an amateur when I compare my cooking with that of my Amma and Atte. I guess most of us will have same kind of feeling. The extra oomph comes with the love with which they cook and serve. Kashi Halwa Today is a time to share one of the very few sweets I love. (Oh yes!!! I am not a sweet person but my hubby compensates that part for me.) This delicacy is popularly known as Kashi Halwa. Ok!!! Now I need a favour from you guys. I have no idea as why it's called as Kashi Halwa. Is it because it's served as Prasad in Kashi or these are some other reason? All I know is its made using white pumpkin and its tastes heavenly. So here is the recipe. Kashi HalwaIngredients:1 kg
