Former presidential adviser Karl Rove declined to appear before a U.S. congressional subcommittee Thursday, citing executive privilege and ignoring a subpoena. Rove was to testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law about allegations of politicization of the Justice Department as they related to the firings of U.S.
Karl Rove, the closest advisor to President Bush will be compelled to testify under oath before a congressional committee. John Conyers, chairman of the Hoouse Judiciary Committee, took the unusual step of issuing a subpoena which requires Mr. Rove to testify about the role played by members of the Bush Administration in the notorious case [...]
How to optimize Hillary's under 2 digit victory in PA ? That title was not a misprint. Even Karl Rove, Bush’s right hand man, has reportedly told Republicans to stop calling Obama by his middle name Hussein. According to The Atlantic.com, Karl Rove met with Republican state directors in a closed door meeting in January, and told them they should not go down to that level. Rove told Republicans that calling him Barack Hussein Obama would give voters the impression that Republicans are bigots and could potentially damage the party. “The context was, you're not going to stigmatize this guy. You shouldn't underestimate him,” one of the directors said. Rove suggested that Republicans refer to Hillary Clinton as Senator Clinton and Barack Obama as Senator Obama, the honorific which they have earned. Rove’s effo

Rove confronted over 'outrageous' war claims
Former White House political guru Karl Rove faced a combative Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) on Fox News Sunday, who demanded that Rove retract recent statements he made suggesting Democrats were behind the push for a vote authorize the war in Iraq in 2002. Host Chris Wallace lost control of his guests, brought on to discuss the future of Iraq, while the two heatedly discussed the run-up to the war.

Karl Rove and U.S. Senator John Cornyn were in East Texas Tuesday for an immigration summit of business leaders. The two were on panel with U.S. Congressman Ralph M. Hall (R-Rockwall).
There were a couple of entertaining soundbites worth noting. First, Karl Rove took the opportunity to praise John Cornyn for helping break a “logjam” on immigration reform and coming to this decision while on hunting trip. Here’s an audio clip:

The next amusing moment came from Congressman Ralph Hall, the oldest person in Congress, who discussed “OTMs.” For those unaware of what OTMs are, it’s evidently Karl Rove’s special lingo for all of the alleged people crossing the U.S. Mexico border who aren’t Latino, aka “Other Than Mexicans.” Congressman Hall explains:

Evidence indicates Karl Rove arranged for at least 8 US Attorneys to be fired who were not submissive to the Bush Administration. With months to go before the first caucus or primary vote is to be cast, political talk, as usual, centers on the horse race as opposed to issues. Karl Rove, who has been proven to be capable of error in 2006, has questioned whether Hillary Clinton is electable:
There is no front-runner who has entered the primary season with negatives as high as she has in the history of modern polling. She’s going into the general election with, depending on what poll you look at, in the high forties on the negative side, and just below that on the positive side, and there’s nobody who has ever won the presidency who started out in that kind of position.
Peter Daou, internet director for the Clinton campaign, has responded to this attack at several blogs today, including at Huffington Post. Peter makes a good point that both Bill Clinton in 1992 and George W. Bush in 2004 actually had similar high unfavorable ratings and went on to win.
Obviously Peter has an interest in this argument so

Now is it any wonder amidst the volatile stock market, excessive scandals involving the current administration, the conviction and pardoning of Scooter Libby that Republican spin doctor and strategist Karl Rove has followed Donald Rumsfeld into the ranks of Bush defectors. Karl “the architect” and “boy genius” Rove announced his resignation today to an apathetic United States who are more concerned with their plummeting 401K’s, the trouble brewing in the Middle East and the importing of tainted goods from China. There was no fanfare, there was no big celebration, there was just one man who was quietly trying to slink off into obscurity and out of the public eye that had already grown tired of the continual controversies and scandals surrounding Rove that he managed to squirm out of due to his close friendship with the administrations leaders. While the infamous gangster John Gotti was known as “The Teflon Don”, Rove could equally be tagged as &
Exciting morning, huh? I must admit, I smiled when I heard the news. But now I'm not so sure. I’ve noticed today that some people are talking about the work of Karl Rove in the past tense, as if he's definitely finished. This is a concerning trend. Smart people with a genuine desire to see the end of the Bush administration, and who are desperate for some kind of hope, really want to believe that today's announcement means that the days of Karl Rove are over. They really want to believe that Rove is resigning out of panic or that he is walking away to go harmlessly write his book and chill with wifey. I understand the desire. I wish I could believe it. I could really dig having something to celebrate. But I don’t have cause to celebrate. The truth is, we don’t know what this means. There are a lot of “whys” that need to be addressed. And they might not add up to a move made out of panic or a simple fade into irrelevance. Let's take a quick look at thi

Facing Subpoenas, Karl Rove Resigns
President Bush’s top adviser Karl Rove has announced he will step down as White House deputy chief of staff on August 31. Rove’s resignation comes while he is at the center of several Congressional investigations. Last month Senate Judiciary Chair Patrick Leahy subpoenaed Rove to testify about his role in the politicization of the Justice Department and the firing of nine U.S. attorneys. So far Rove has ignored the subpoena and has refused to testify, citing executive privilege. In addition, two weeks ago Rove skipped a Congressional hearing on the allegedly improper use by White House aides of Republican National Committee email accounts. Rove told the Wall Street Journal that he is resigning in order to spend more time with his family. For the past 19 years Rove worked as George W. Bush’s closest political advisor, first in Texas, then in Washington. During that time he earned the nickname of Bush&rsquo
President Bush's Remarks on Resignation of Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor Karl Rove FULL STREAMING VIDEO, South Lawn 11:31 A.M. EDT THE PRESIDENT: Karl Rove is moving on down the road. I've been talking to Karl for a while about his desire to spend more time with Darby and Andrew. This is a family that has made enormous sacrifices not only for our beloved state of Texas, but for a country we both love. We've been friends for a long time, and we're still going to be friends. I would call Karl Rove a dear friend. We've known each other as youngsters interested in serving our state. We worked together so we could be in a position to serve this country. And so I thank my friend. I'll be on the road behind you here in a little bit. I thank Darby and I thank Karl for making a tremendous sacrifice, and I wish you all the very best. MR. ROVE: Today, I submitted my resignation as Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor effective the end of the month. Mr. President, I'm grateful
So the big news story this morning when I flipped on MSNBC was that Karl Rove is stepping down and will be leaving his position within the Bush administration. The usual “wants to spend more time with his family” was repeated over and over by the anchor person as his reason for leaving.
I will be honest; I don’t buy it. I think the Bush administration has done some pretty shady shit during their two terms in the White House. Most of it will probably never see the light of day and we the American public will never know about it. Rove was implicated in the scandal of a CIA operative’s name being leaked and recently he used executive privilege to avoid testifying in front of Congress. This seems like a well timed move to get out before the next scandal hits and allow Rove access to a Presidential pardon for over a year.

Karl Rove to quit at end of august
While members of the Bush Administration have been jumping ship for years now, I have to say I never took Karl Rover for the cut and run type. He says he needs to spend more time for his family. I find it curious that he has decided this so close to the end of Bush’s reign. Makes me wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Democrats relentless pursuit of corruption is getting a bit too close for comfort for Rove.
Rove declined subpoena, an order to testify earlier this month. The White House expressely forbid him not to appear, because he was an advisor to the President. It could spell trouble for the Bush Administration if they continue to go after Rove, especially since he is no longer advisor to the President.
What will this mean for the Bush spin machine? Without “The Architect” around to call the shots, George Bush may find himself in plenty of more precarious situations, and without someone to clean up the mess. Par

It seems that there is tremendous interest in the possibility that Karl Rove is an atheist. The recent post in which I quoted Christopher Hitchens, author of God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, as saying that Rove "is not a believer" generated more hits than any other post in the history of Atheist Revolution. In this post, I'll consider other evidence that confirms Hitchens' statement and discuss the implications of Rove's atheism.Hitchens' on Karl Rove and BushWe start with Christopher Hitchens. What exactly did he say, and what was the context of his statement. During an interview with New York Magazine, Hitchens was asked whether he thought an openly atheistic candidate would ever be elected in the United States. He answered in the affirmative and was then asked whether anyone in the Bush administration has ever disclosed atheism to him. He replied,Well, I don’t talk that much to them—maybe people think I do. Could it be that one of the most powerful men in America's most overtly religious political administration is actually an atheist? According to Christopher Hitchens, Turdblossom is a non-believer.In a recent interview with New York Magazine, Hitchens was asked whether anyone in the Bush administration has reported atheism. He replied,Well, I don’t talk that much to them—maybe people think I do. I know something which is known to few but is not a secret. Karl Rove is not a believer, and he doesn’t shout it from the rooftops, but when asked, he answers quite honestly. I think the way he puts it is, “I’m not fortunate enough to be a person of faith.”Interesting. According to Hitchens, Bush is aware of Rove's lack of belief, however, he thinks this is unlikely to be an issue since Bush's own faith may be something less than sincere. At this point it's irrelevent what anyone in the Bush administration says in their own defense. The Democrats aren't going to believe anything said and will automatically assume foul play and an intentional cover up. Karl Rove could say the sky is blue and the grass green and the Democrats would scream that he's lying and demand any emails he had sent on the subject of skies or grass. The rabid Bush hatred of the extremist left has begun to permeate even the rank and file Democrat politicos since they regained power in both Houses. So the White House is getting the expected payback from the Democrats. And chances are it will get much worse before it gets better. Theres a lot of built up angst on the left side of the aisle. I love the way certain pundits would like to turn around the whole Karl Rove thing on it's head and declare him the ultimate failure if the GOP has a bad election in 2006. The bottom line truth is that Karl Rove is a George W Bush guy and has been for some time. It was Karl Rove who helped George Bush get elected as the Governor of Texas. It was Karl Rove who helped George W Bush overcome John McCain in the 2000 primaries. It was Karl Rove who engineered not one but two successful Presidential elections for the guy he works for. Make no mistake, Karl Rove's loyalties are to the President more than it is to the party. Make no mistake that Karl Rove has served his President well and can take much of the credit for Bush being a two term President.

Uncle Karl’s been very busy over the last few days. If you are brave enough, you can listen to his speech delivered in support of Tom Reynolds (caught in the Foley scandal, btw) the other day. The speech is littered with the usual references to Nine Eleven, WW II, and all sorts of heroic behavior they suggest they’ve perpetrated.
In it, he’s on full spin mode and even suggests we buy a book of the written by Osama Bin Laden (Message to the World). Now if you ask me, any one at that level of the government that advocates that we read the messages of OBL is delivering the devil to our doorstep. Who is serving whom?
You have to ask how much of the speech is myth and pure fabrication. For people who are openly abject to speaking about hypothetical situations, Rove and his pals sure are prone to soothsaying and prophesizing about the future should the Dems win in November.
