Fannie Mae Refinancing Plan Aims to Head Off Foreclosures - Wall Street Journal
By JAMES R. HAGERTYMay 10, 2008; Page A2Fannie Mae is preparing to introduce by midyear a program of refinancing mortgages for people who owe more than the current value of their homes, a situation known as being "underwater."The plan is the latest twist in efforts to contain the surge in foreclosures on homes in much of the U.S. It differs from a bill approved by the House on Thursday that would authorize the Federal Housing Administration to insure loans for distressed borrowers only after the lender has written down the principal -- something many lenders are reluctant to do. Fannie's refinance plan would result in new loans of equivalent size, leaving the borrower underwater but giving him or her a lower monthly payment or at least a fixed rate.

Mortgage Firms Cool to Principal-Cut Plan - Wall Street Journal
By RUTH SIMON and NICK TIMIRAOSMay 9, 2008; Page A3A major provision of the housing-market legislation passed by the House Thursday is getting a lukewarm reception from the mortgage industry. The measure, which is aimed at reducing foreclosures, would encourage mortgage companies to reduce the principal on troubled loans. In exchange, the Federal Housing Administration would pay off the current loan and issue the borrower a new FHA-backed mortgage. Struggling homeowners would get lower monthly payments to increase chances they could avoid foreclosure.

Mindfulness Journal: Notes on the Mind
My mind—an undisciplined animal running amok---brings me little comfort. I need to lose my mind. I need to be set loose from my mind. I need to realize that I am not my mind. Not my mind? Lose my mind? Or perhaps loosen my mind?I feel sad that my mind has its way with me so much of the time. It roams freely—perhaps too freely---dragging me violently along, the way a child will pull a puppy down the sidewalk against its will.Sitting for five or ten minutes at a time is enough to give me pause, to realize the wild untamed nature of my mind.I need a retreat.

Why Obama's Fans Seemed Scarce As Things Got HotMay 5, 2008; Page A14Take it from an amateur who's been around the block a few times. The prominent Democrats deserting Barack Obama described in Daniel Henninger's "Where Were Obama's Friends?1" (Wonder Land, May 1) have one thing in common. They're all scared to death of the Clintons. When Sen. Obama looked like a winning hand, they thought they could finally escape another Clinton presidency with Bill running wild in the White House. Once the luster was off and Mr. Obama was less than a slam dunk, fear took over and the result was easy to predict.

The Clique movie has been mentioned in an article in The Providence Journal! In the fourth paragraph of the article, the Clique is summarized and it gives quotes from Steven Feinberg about the possibility of more Clique movies. Feinberg's older quotes hint at more Clique movies being made but, his newer quote "I don’t know" isn't so promising =/ Hopefully, though, The Clique will do well so that we can see all of the books in the series in movies! Anyways, you can read the full article here. It's pretty cool even though they got Lisi's name wrong and called her Isis Harrison.

      Daily Prayer Journal
Being Christian e-book publishers as well as the fact that we just celebrated the 'National Day of Prayer', we tend to get a lot of e-mail asking questions regarding prayer and the receiving of God's 'good things'. Unfortunately many people think that there must be some 'special methods' or 'tools' or even special words needed to get God's blessings! I'm saying it again here, that it just isn't so. No special words, phrases, methods or tools are needed to receive God’s blessings. One needs to understand that when they are feeling a 'bit strange' or a 'bit philosophical' even ‘serendipitous’ that it is okay and most times those feeling are to assist us in recognizing them as the 'Call To Prayer'. All one has to do is to simply answer 'The Call'. God wants us to receive all the best

I'm not expecting this to change much in either the Arcadia magazine list or future Amusement Journal reports. For all intents and purposes, the game has been performing at a level that I would assume at least meets the expectations with some sources (such as The Stinger Report) going as far as saying that it is breaking most expectations and exceeding even some previous tracking highs. Today was the first weekday since we returned from vacation. While Mary went back to work, I did the things I needed to do, little of which involved making money. Picking up the car at the shop, a physical therapy session, shopping, banking, making copies, seeing a friend, walking the dog, making dinner---the day was full.Despite the fullness of the day, nagging voices in my head questioned my motives and my commitments. Why didn't I do more? Why wasn't I more productive? What more could be done?A few hours with a dear friend who lives at a Buddhist retreat center helped to quell those voices. My friend reminded me that I only stopped working full-time three months ago after twelve years of working forty hours a week. When I consider twelve years of work in one hand and three months of my

      Mindfulness Journal #6: Mindfulness Conference
Today I attended an all-day conference on mindfulness and meditation with Terry Fralich, a former student of H.H. The Dalia Lama and Jon Kabat-Zinn. The conference focused equally on cultivating mindfulness, the neurobiology of mindfulness, and how to impart mindfulness practices and philosophies to patients and clients when appropriate. Here are some nuggets:---Two parents and their teenage son are walking across a barren desert landscape. The father turns to the son and says, "Stop asking when we're going to get there already. We're nomads, for crying out loud."---If you have time to worry, why don't you have time to meditate?---In Tibetan, the word meditation means "to become familiar with"---We live in an age of "data smog" and "techno-stress"---Mindfulness is full-hearted presence, whi

The label on my tea bag this morning says "Your intuition is your best friend".Sitting in my writing group, I let the words fly and the keyboard sings beneath my fingers. I do let intuition move my fingers, and I allow the paragraphs to form:The wind blows from behind me and the warm sun feels like a balm against my face and chest. The other writers sit inside in the cozy warmth, and we write simultaneously in a chain of support and solidarity. Cars and trucks go by on the street, and I hear the sounds of birds mixed with the traffic. There’s a hum in the air---the hum of life moving along its inevitable trajectory. Now a small plane cuts across the sky, probably on its way to the local airport. Jersey Journal illustrates why it's the state's 'best' newspaper ... at looking foolish
For any of us who grew up in Hudson County, present company included, the Jersey Journal was somewhat of a rite of passage each day. We couldn't go without reading it. Now, years and years later, what was once a reputable newspaper that covered Hudson County thoroughly is now a joke of a rag not even worthy of lining a bird cage.Whether it's Augie Torres' constant hypocritical editorials, his unwillingness to hear multiple sides of a story, his refusal to print any letters to the editor that slam him and the like, or whether it's putting the photo of a deceased baby on its cover a few years back, the Hudson County newspaper of record is now nothing short of a disgraceful bunch of crap put together, masked as "news," usually with the idea of unfairly targeting people for a laugh.Such was no

Wall Street Journal on the surge of pregnancy discrimination claims
This morning's Wall Street Journal has a piece on the growth of EEOC pregnancy discrimination charges. According to the Journal: Pregnancy-bias complaints recorded by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission surged 14% last year to 5,587, up 40% from a decade ago and the biggest annual increase in 13 years.... The groundswell reflects both changing demographics and a new activism among mothers. It also shows that even now, 30 years after passage of the federal Pregnancy Discrimination Act, there is still confusion about what protections it provides. "I thought we were protected," said an advertising executive during a recent gathering of 100 working mothers. "Then I find out we can be fired while we're pregnant, employers can refuse to hire us -- what exactly are our rights?" While

Photo Journal/Exercise 6 (Photo-DI): High Dynamic Range (HDR) Photography
Now moving fast from the past to the future in the second digital imaging exercise.... it's HDR Photography!High Dynamic Range or HDR photography has been a popular technique since the emergence of digital cameras. It is a technique where 3 or more different exposures of the same picture are taken and merged or composited together to show each photo’s best detailed areas and give the maximum range of details and “information” from the darkest to the lightest parts (dynamic range) in “one” photo. It is closer or even higher than the dynamic range of the human eyes, where for a digital camera can only capture a third of our dynamic range in a single shot. The result image of a HDR photo in general looks very sharp with long depth of field, clearly detailed in the darkest to lightest
