All is well here in the Fluttering Butterfly House - just adjusting to life with a newborn. There is so much I've forgotten. I forgot how tiny newborns can be. I forgot how often they need to be changed. I forgot about all those aches and pains that are still there after labour is over and done with. But at least Elliot is coping all right. For the most part. He is acting up a lot more, but I think it's more down to his age rather than a lack of attention or jealousy on his part. I have no idea how I came across this blog, but I’ve been reading “Andrew and Joshua” over the past few weeks and anxiously awaiting the updates for some reason.
Andrew and Joshua is the comma heavy, short phrased, optimistic blog of a 20something gay couple living in Minneapolis, who spend the majority of their free time with Andrew’s parents. Between hearty midwestern meals with the folks they together engage in theater, opera, art, history, and heavily discussing all of the above.
I have no idea why these guys intrigue me. There are no photos, so I only picture them and their family through Andrew’s writing, which entertains me the most: Andrew’s style is overly descriptive of the most minute details, with the verbage of an 1860s steamship operator. Between paragraphs and paragraphs dissecting art and opera he describes the mundane with the fervor of a child opening his Christmas presents.

I’m at the Four Seasons now about to head into an interview with “A Mighty Heart” director Michael Winterbottom. The film is Mariane Pearl’s memoir to the death of her husband, Daniel, in the line of duty as a journalist. I spoke with “Evening” director Lajos Koltai on Wednesday.Though shot as an independent, the film boasts an impressive cast that includes Claire Danes, Toni Collette, Vanessa Redgrave and Patrick Wilson with small but punchy roles by Meryl Streep and Glenn Close. On June 21, actor Steve Zahn will be in town to interview for “Rescue Dawn”. On June 28, director George Ratliff will be in town to interview for “Joshua”.

I kind of like this poster. The movie is all about one very creepy, very precocious kid. The very large painting of the kid, so well dressed, with the actual kid staring at it does a good job of telling us that he is not your average child, and that he probably has a big ego and big plans. The coldness of the whole image matches the coldness in that stare, and gives further hint that this might be a strange and possibly dangerous person. And the whole thing has a creepy vibe.
That said, I think that the colors and design of the image might make this poster a little bit dull to look at. It doesn’t stand out enough. And if one doesn’t already have a clue about the movie’s story, the poster might leave one a little puzzled about it.
Still an interesting poster tough.
Although the Bible says in numerous other places that stealing is wrong, I would not make that application from this passage. I would not say that Achan was punished for stealing. He was punished for not following the orders of God, knowing he was not following the orders, and trying to hide his disobedience from his fellow Israelites. What Achan realizes, though, is that one cannot hide ones sins from God. God knows all, even the things that we do in secret. Stealing may be a subset of the order not to possess the banned items, but it is not the main issue in this passage; disobedience is.

I love Joshua trees. Whenever I think of these trees I also think of heat, sun, desert and any warm weather climates around us. This ink and watercolor painting is an exercise in attempting to focus on the tree's silhouette and also its shadow which is such a major part of this painting. I sold this original at the Lincoln Hills Art Show in May 2006.
