Peggy Noonan has written a nice article about the differences between Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI, differences that can be summed up in the following passage:John Paul made you burst into tears. Benedict makes you think. It is more pleasurable to weep, but at the moment, perhaps it is more important to think.Of course, I never met John Paul and probably won't meet Benedict XVI, so I can't verify if upon meeting John Paul one spontaneously breaks into weeping . . . but I do know that thinking about John Paul, even when he was still with us, always brought tears to my eyes.Yet, since my proximity to John Paul has been through is work, I can say that his was an intellect to be reckoned with, and both his and Benedict's work have brought an altogether different kind of tears to my

I don't know how I forgot — but April 2, last week, marked the third anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II. It's hard to believe it's been three years already. I suppose thinking about the upcoming visit of the current pope caused me to forget John Paul II's anniversary. My apologies.
At a time when two girls had convinced an entire grade to shun me, you actually spoke to me. It was passable, because we were both so low on the social ladder, but even the guy who smelled ignored me, so I was elated when we laughed together. Thank you.I am a participant in x365 and Blog 365.Check out Schmutzie on Etsy!

In his opinion in last weeks Supreme Court ruling regarding race based school assignments, Justice John Paul Stevens claims that "no Member of the Court that I joined in 1975 would have agreed with today's decision." This is pure nonsense as Stevens himself, in 1978, probably would have voted for the decision reached by the majority. In 1978 Justice Stevens wrote an opinion in which he dissents from Justice Powell’s opinion in the Bakke Case . Powell endorsed the concept that diversity was a compelling rational for the use of race based admissions by state colleges. Justice Stevens flat out rejected this notion. He believed it went far beyond what was allowed and mandated under Title VI as well as the Civil Rights Act of 1964.In fact, Justice Stevens evoked the following in his Bakke opinion (Quoting Hubert Humphrey): “if race is not a factor, we do not have to worry about discrimination because of race.” This sounds an awful lot like John Roberts statement that if we want to sto
Pope John Paul II's long-time secretary, Stanislas Dziwisz, reveals in a new book that his boss successfully made a number of ski trips incognito in his earlier days in the Vatican. Here's the scoop from Rocco Palmo at his blog...
Charlottesville, Virginia firm VMDO Architects designs a modern arena for sports and entertainment with goliath Ellerbe Becket. The design is an interesting mix of traditional architypes found on the historic campus which are then given a modern twist. Ellerbe Becket's website provides this description of the design, "Your first impression of the John Paul Jones Arena is of the grand pergola crowning the main entrance. This distinctive design feature echoes the architectural vocabulary established by Thomas Jefferson, who founded the University of Virginia nearly two centuries ago. The arena combines the best of traditional design with the modern amenities today’s sports and concert patrons crave – an inviting entry plaza, wide concourses, 20 luxury suites and 100+ courtside seats."University of Virginia Official Athletic Site Link
