Today in a suprise move John Edwards endorsed former rival Barack Obama. I'm not shocked by this endorsement as it becoming clearer that this party just doesn't want Hillary Clinton in it. The need for party unity is causing everyone to throw Clinton under the bus. It doesn't even matter at this point the math is clearly in Obama's favor as it has been since Feb. Clinton can't win, but it is s
John Edwards took a huge political chance today, waiting until the last possible moment to endorse Barack Obama. It was a move expected since Edwards dropped out of the Democratic Presidential race in January. When Obama jumped out to a huge lead over Hillary Clinton, John Edwards pointed to his similarities with Obama's agenda for America, for example, "change". Edwards shared other similarities w

John Edwards today endorsed Sen. Obama in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
As Edwards was endorsing Obama, Senator Clinton was meeting with donors — right after her big win last Tuesday in “Bigot Land,” West Virginia.
Superb timing for Obama — essentially a “Double whammy,” that completely mutes the discussion of Clinton’s West Virginia win over the air-waves.

Senator John Edwards isn't exactly sitting on the fence. That would put him slightly above the fray. No, I put him in the corner of the stockade with a fiesty filly on one side and a charasmatic steer on the other. Whichever way Edwards goes, he's bound to get kicked! In a People Magazine exclusive (as they say!) John and Elizabeth Edwards have been waxing in a fairly lyrical way about what they like (and dislike) about Clinton and Obama. All very good, but it's more that just curate's egg philosophy. It's really just saying they aren't telling us who they support. At least Jimmy Carter said everyone in his family was backing Obama, but he couldn't go that far (nudge, nudge; wink, wink) as he was a Super Delegate. So what is the bottom line? They can't say. After all North Carolina is John E
You may recall, a few months back, when we told you about the Waxahachie student who was suspended for wearing a John Edwards for President tee shirt to school. The student has now sued the school:
Pete Palmer, a sophomore at Waxahachie High School, wants the right to wear the shirt at school. The suit, filed by the Liberty Legal Institute, also seeks unspecified monetary damages from Waxahachie Independent School District, according to the TV station.
The district violated Palmer’s constitutional right to free speech by kicking him out of school for wearing the shirt, according to the institute.
But according to the Waxahachie Independent School District dress code, students can’t wear shirts with political slogans.

When I read that John Edwards is pulling out of the Presidential campaign, I had a few thoughts. These possibilities seem remote, but not entirely unimaginable.Hillary or Obama gets elected. They do a good job, but faced with a ton of problems (peak in oil production, ailing economy, global warming, nuclear war, etc.), don’t quite make things perfect. So the American public gets desperate. Edwards comes back. Rises to power. Ushers in Armageddon. This theory is mainly based on the similarity between Edwards’ appearance and that of Sam Neill as Damien Thorn in “Omen III: The Final Conflict.”
Breitbart News article link John Edwards to Quit Presidential Race Jan 30 10:12 AM US/EasternBy NEDRA PICKLERAssociated Press Writer DENVER (AP) - Democrat John Edwards is exiting the presidential race Wednesday, ending a scrappy underdog bid in which he steered his rivals toward progressive ideals while grappling with family hardship that roused voters' sympathies but never diverted his campaign, The Associated Press has learned. The two-time White House candidate notified a close circle of senior advisers that he planned to make the announcement at a 1 p.m. EST event in New Orleans that had been billed as a speech on poverty, according to two of his advisers. The decision came after Edwards lost the four states to hold nominating contests so far to rivals who stole the spotlight from
It is time for another special presidential edition of “Rejected Campaign Slogans.” From time to time, we’ll show you some of the rejected slogans that the candidates thought about using for their signs, buttons and other campaign materials. Today we are proud to feature the rejected slogans of former Vice Presidential nominee and Democratic Presidential Candidate, John Edwards.
I'm sure most of my regular readers have known I have had a bias for John Edwards in the Democratic presidential primaries for quite a while. While privately I decided who I will vote for, I have yet to formally endorse a candidate, primarily because I like to keep a modicum of objectivity on my blog. So much for that- the time has come to make my case and explain exactly why I think Edwards is the best choice for America. I'd like to take a minute and try to convince those progressives out there who are still wobbly and looking for the right candidate to attempt to clean up the mess George Bush will be leaving behind. Of all the Democratic candidates, John Edwards is the best choice to reform our broken system and bring ordinary folks back into the political process. To illustrate my p
John Edwards has based his entire campaign on creating a mythical soup line America. While poor immigrants are literally trying to break into the County, John Edwards would have everyone believe that we all live in the biggest dump on the Planet. Evidently, John Edwards already thinks we are in a recession when there have been several quarters of phenomenal economic growth.

The Democrats are in an excellent position to take control of the government as voters have become disillusioned with Republican failures. As good as the Democrats position appears to be, some just seem to be unable to resist repeating mistakes of the past and giving the Republicans a shot to win. Once again John Edwards plays into every “tax and spend” stereotype of Democrats which many other Democrats have been attempting to get away from.
Edwards has introduced a plan for fighting hunger which entails creating yet more government programs. When added to all of Edwards’ other plans, how many middle class voters will do the math and figure that they better vote against his party to avoid seeing such an increase in their taxes that they risk joining the hungry themselves? The Lew Rockwell Blog has a simplistic example of what the conservative response will be, but don’t underestimate the effectiveness of the argument.
While the conservative response is somewhat
Presidential Candidate John Edwards has called poverty in America “the great moral issue of our century,”–the Civil Rights movement of our time. Of course, poverty ties right in with hunger and today, Senator Edwards addressed the media and bloggers from around the nation on the issue in a conference call. Here are some highlights:
SENATOR EDWARDS: There wa a report just last week that indicated that 35.5 million Americans, including 13 million children went hungry last year. This is an issue we can actually do something about. I think we have a moral responsibility as a country to stand up and take action so we have no man woman or child in this country go hungry.
Before outlining Senator Edwards’ six-point plan, I do want to make a few comments on it. Part six, in particular, is something I believe you should pay attention to.
It’s something pretty detail-oriented for a presidential campaign to pay attention to: the fact that low-income areas don’t
During the Democratic debate in Nevada on November 15, 2007, presidential hopeful John Edwards who was born in South Carolina but lives in North Carolina had the following to say regarding his experience of growing up in the Carolinas."But I want to go beyond what some others have said here because it is so crucial if you grew up like I did in the segregated style and you saw how important it was to have federal judges who had some backbone and were willing to stand up against popular opinion -- but we had a judge who desegregated the public schools in North Carolina, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He literally had to have armed guards take him from home to work and home each day. That's the kind of courage and strength we need in a United States Supreme Court justice."Like Edwards, I was born in the Carolinas and have lived in one state or the other most of my life. In fact my home is now located in York County, South Carolina which is about 10 minutes away from the city of C
Ever since I was young and heard in movies about how the government spends too much money on things like toilet seats in order to hide other expenditures, I've accepted that there are things that are paid for that the public doesn't know about. On paper, a toilet seat costs hundreds or thousands of dollars. But in reality, it's not the toilet seat that costs so much. It's other stuff.Hearing about Edwards and his expensive haircut got me wondering. Is this one of the rare times when the public is acquainted with a legitimately expensive purchase? Or is this a cover-up?I've also come to accept that people running for office probably act just like the government, and spend money in areas that the public isn't supposed to know about. But in Edwards' case, I can believe that he did in fact pay that much for a haircut. Why? Because I'm also aware of how high-end services in the "make me look good" industry can come with exorbitant price tags. Celebrities were in the news a fe
There are many priorities to consider as we change the occupant of the White House. After experiencing the consequences of a president who was unprepared for the job in 2001, we don’t need a president who’s experience is limited to a single Senate term which was primarily used to run for the nomination. After a president who got us involved in the Iraq war and pushed through the Patriot Act we don’t need a president who was a big backer of both, regardless of his apologies. After a president who tried to ignore the Constitution and grab more power for the Executive Branch we don’t need a president who promises to do more of the same. With all the charges of “Bush-lite” which have floated around the past few years, the most Bush-like candidate of all is John Edwards.
Edwards has mentioned his idea denying health care to Congress if they do not pass his health care proposal in the past, but fortunately he is finally receiving criticism for this uncon
As a former resident of New Orleans, it has been sad to watch the Katrina saga go down the memory hole of most Americans. Some people are still living in deadly formaldehyde-laced FEMA trailers, others still displaced around the country while the government does nothing meaningful to help the situation. The ad below is absolutely brilliant. This is the best I've seen this campaign season that goes directly at Hillary Clinton. The 'big brother' ad was equally brilliant, but I don't feel it had the same mass appeal; too many Americans have been shielded from Hillary's Stalinist impulses by the MSM. Edward's response crystallizes what people already suspect about Hillary. It highlights her double...

As the saying goes, desperate times call for desperate measures. John Edwards seems to be feeling the pressure. Citing the difficulty in balancing both fighting for and connecting with the poor and maintaining a lavish, luxurious lifestyle, Edwards recently released an ad that attempts to bridge a stronger connection with both women and minorities. Edwards really just doesn't know how to connect with anyone.
It now seems like every day that we hear more lunacy from the increasingly desperate Edwards campaign. Yesterday it was attempts to suppress news from a student journalist. His lack of respect for the First Amendment is seen yet again in his proposal to suppress advertising of new drugs.
I’ve never been very fond of such pharmaceutical company advertising as they are intended to drive sales of more expensive medications when cheaper alternatives will often work as well. However because we do not like something does not mean we should use the power of government to suppress it. This especially pertains to speech we might disapprove of.
There are alternatives to attempting to suppress free speech. When patients come in requesting a prescription based upon an advertisement I’ll often explain how the ads are used to try to sell higher priced medications which are not necessarily the best for them. All other things being equal I tend to avoid prescribing medications which are ad
The news story in the video above was produced by a student at The University of North Carolina. While hardly the most critical story of Edwards I’ve seen, it does raise the suspicions which many have that Edwards is campaigning on poverty more out of political expedience than conviction.
The New York Times and The News & Observer reports on efforts of the Edwards campaign to suppress distribution of the video, including demanding that it be removed from You Tube:
A UNC-Chapel Hill journalism professor said John Edwards’ presidential campaign tried to kill a student’s video story about his campaign headquarters.
Associate Professor C.A. Tuggle said two top staffers for the former North Carolina senator demanded that the school drop the segment from the student-run television program “Carolina Week.” They also asked to have the video removed from the YouTube Web site.
Tuggle said they threatened to cut off access to Edwards for UNC student reporters a
I’m not sure which is worse, the junk science which Edwards sold to juries to make his fortune as a trial lawyer or the junk economics he is selling to the voters of Iowa. Edwards is escalating his attacks on the corporations. Such a populist message might pay off in rural Iowa, but it will be a tough sell nation wide.
Despite what John Edwards might want to tell you, corporations essentially are not evil. They are not good either. They are generally amoral creations primarily concerned with making profits. Profits are not evil. John Edwards should agree with that–after all he sure has made plenty of money. While sometimes corporations might do objectionable things to make the profits, and in some cases specific government action might be needed, it is also corporations which create many of the jobs in this country. To paraphrase the commercial, corporations make the things that we buy–period. If they make a profit by selling us things that we want that is perfectly f
In September I posted the video of Bill Maher’s new rule which was on 9/11 conspiracy theorists:
New Rule: Crazy people who still think the government brought down the Twin Towers in a controlled explosion have to stop pretending that I’m the one that’s being naïve. How big a lunatic do you have to be to watch two giant airliners packed with jet fuel slam into buildings on live TV igniting a massive inferno that burned for two hours and then think, “Well, if you believe that was the cause?” Stop asking me to raise this ridiculous topic on this show and start asking your doctor if Paxil is right for you.
Firday’s show had some 9/11 conspiracy theorists heckling Maher from the audience, as seen in the video above.
Maher shows less sense in choosing political candidates than he does in disbelieving the 9/11 conspiracy theorists. His interview with John (I’ll say anything to get elected) Edwards was consistent with other impressions Maher has given that Edwards
Walter Shapiro has a favorable look at John Edwards in Salon. While I do not agree with many of Shapiro’s favorable comments on Edwards, at least he understands how many of us feel (ignoring how he writes this off as “elite opinion”).
As someone who has been covering Edwards since his first foray into New Hampshire during the summer of 2002, I have long been stunned by the animus toward him that lurks just beneath the surface of elite opinion. In conversations with Washington political consultants, major Democratic donors, former Senate colleagues and big-time reporters, I have repeatedly heard the vague, but damning, refrain that Edwards is a shallow phony and his commitment to fighting poverty is mostly a political pose.
While I disagree with many of Shapiro’s defenses of Edwards, there is one factual error which I cannot ignore in the discussion of the limitations which Edwards would face by accepting matching funds:
Asked about this problem in the interview,
“We cannot build enough prisons to solve this problem. And the idea that we can keep incarcerating and keep incarcerating — pretty soon we’re not going to have a young African-American male population in America. They’re all going to be in prison or dead. One of the two.”
That was John Edwards’ answer to a question about inner-city kids and violence. He is saying that all black Americans are criminals, at least that is the way I interpret it. Can you imagine if Romney or Rudy said this?
I am not going to spend any more of my time on this because Edwards isn’t a viable candidate anyway, but I just wanted to show everyone what a racist John Edwards really is.
-John Edwards took part in a dialogue hosted by MTV and MySpace to get in touch with younger voters, through answering question posed on his MySpace page and through MTV's website. He is the first presidential hopeful to do so. He unveiled a ten point agenda to appeal to students, including mentions of the crisis in Darfur and college aid.-For his performance in the Democratic presidential debate last night, Edwards has received positive reviews in the media. The Boston Globe said, that "John Edwards, by pointedly and directly drawing differences with front-runner Hillary Clinton, boosted his prospects to be the liberal alternative to the former first lady." He attacked Hillary Clinton on some of her war positions, putting her on the defensive, and drawing attention to himself as the alternative to Hillary, while Obama seemed to fall flat.-Elizabeth Edwards stepped up her criticism of Hillary Clinton's healthcare efforts when her husband was in office. In an interview with New York
Elizabeth Edwards has made headlines once again by saying that Hillary's new healthcare plan is practically identical to her husband's plan, which he outlined over half a year ago: "Does Mrs. Clinton's plan seem very familiar to you? Mrs. Clinton has — seven and a half months after John unveiled his health care plan — unveiled a health care plan that is in every material respect just like John's," Edwards told Associated Press, calling Hillary's plan "John Edwards' health care plan as delivered by Hillary Clinton."She also made a good point about Hillary's campaign: "We would have expected her to be the first one out of the box, not the last one out of the box with a health care plan. And then for her to come up with one that looks like John's, it's almost as if she hasn't been willing to have the courage independently to be a leader on these things." You would think that Hillary would have presented a plan sooner (particularly because Edwards presented his own plan so ea
This morning, John Edwards attacked Hillary Clinton on her past healthcare mistakes, on the day she unveiled her new healthcare plan: "The cost of that failure 14 years ago is not just somebody's political fortune or their scars. It's the millions of Americans who have now gone for almost 15 years without health care...I don't believe you can sit down with lobbyists, take their money and cut a deal. If you defended the system that defeated health care, I don't think you can be the president who brings health care."Edwards also said that he plans to strip healthcare coverage from all members of Congress and all political appointees by July 2009 (six months into his term as president) unless universal health care is passed by then: "When their health care is personally at stake, they will respond," Edwards said. The gesture would only serve as a symbolic one, however, because presumably no such bill would ever get passed by Congress.-Edwards launched a contest for five supporters to
UPDATE: MoveOn.org changed its Advertisement from 'betray us' to 'betrayal of trust;' this time referring to George Bush instead of General Petraeus. It appears that by attacking Petraeus, they have severely overplayed their hand. Now they will attempt to divert attention to George Bush, who is a much easier target for the people with Bush Derangement Syndrome ("BDS"). This will not work, however. Once you throw the skunk into the American People's homes, you can't get the stink out.Start of original editorial. In typical John Edwards fashion, Edwards is having his wife fight his battles for him. This has allowed him to take both sides on every issue because he can stay silent while his wife does the dirty work for him. He pulled this same nonsense before on the issue of gay marriage; his wife supports it, while he does not. This time, however, Elizabeth Edwards denounced Moveon.org and their shameful attack on General Petraeus. John Edwards is a pathetic excuse for a lea
With Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama enduring criticism from many about their dearth of firm statements against the war, John Edwards is stepping up to the plate by buying two minutes of airtime directly following George Bush's speech tonight on MSNBC to rebut Bush's speech and to encourage ending the war. This could mean a big boost of support for Edwards, if all goes well.I hypothesize that this might be just what Edwards needs to do to set himself apart from Hillary and Obama on this issue. Edwards has become increasingly vocal about his opposition to the war. This new "nationwide address," as his campaign's Senior Advisor calls it in the e-mail sent out to Edwards supporters, will garner publicity for him for all the right reasons, provided he doesn't get another $400 haircut in preparation for the speech!
While MSNBC refuses to run pro-war advertisements, they have provided John Edwards a two-minute advertising slot to bash President Bush and rebut the War in Iraq. Yes, John Edwards has purchased two minutes of air time on MSNBC, scheduled to air after Bush's 15-minute televised speech from the White House at 9 p.m. EDT. This is nothing but a pathetic political ploy from a man who voted for the War.Embarrassingly, John Edwards has already taped the rebuttal, making this “rebuttal” an oxymoron. Notably, rebuttals are supposed to be responses to what someone else says, not something that is planned ahead of time. Moreover, there is no doubt that Edwards will have consultants write his entire script and everything will be choreographed. His hair will look impeccable.Nevertheless, I think it would be hilarious if George Bush got on television and started talking about something other than the Iraq War, like the weather or how happy he is that his daughter is getting married. Then
John Edwards Makes Me Mad. I’m sorry, I’m a Democrat but I have to say that. The reason I say that is he claims to be for working America yet clearly is out to labor arbitrage American Professional workers through the expansion of the H-1b Visa program.

Many political memoirs are written as rambling autobiographies, and tend to feel like long, tedious campaign speeches. However, John Edwards has managed to write (or co-write) a memoir of four memorable, victorious court trials that reads like short stories by John Grisham. Each trial is a heart wrenching story of decent people vs. negligence in the form of hospitals, a truck company, and a pool drain cover manufacturer. Each trial chapter begins with some personal anecdotes about Edwards' life. I counted seventeen references to the fact that his father was a mill worker. But whether it's due to a talented co-writer or a smart political move, these brief anecdotes are eloquently written and provide snapshots of who Edwards is, skirting the danger of coming off as too self-centered by spending too much time on himself. The saddest of the cases Edwards presents is a case of a doctor who neglected to do a C-section on the defendant although he was presented with glaring evidence that th
Last Saturday, I went to a White Park in Concord to listen to John Edwards as he made a campaign stop. Elizabeth was there and said her piece before the John spoke. Their kids were all there too.Going back... I started my day with Beth turning on the DVD of Bobby. It was early, and I didn't really want to be awake yet, so I was sort of fading in and out of consciousness. I wasn't paying especially close attention to the movie, but I was able to basically follow the beginning of it, and I was able to get a bit of a sense of RFK, from the interspersed footage of him on the campaign trail. I got enough of a sense of RFK that I was thinking that he really reminded me of Kucinich. (Or is it the other way around?)I'll be the first to tell you that I don't know a whole lot about RFK. I know he wa
So, earlier this morning Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards told a socialist labor group that he would ask us Americans to make a big sacrifice: give up our SUVs. Yes indeed, he wants me to actually sell my beloved SUV to support the al-gore-global-warming-world-is-ending-doomsday-cause. Yeah, ummmm…no thanks. His comments make me wonder if he and his campaign team gets transported around various locations in a Prius, or maybe horse and buggy?
Speaking of sacrifice, I wonder if he’d be willing to move out of his 28,200 square foot home to conserve on his energy bill.

John Edwards’ absolute arrogance and stupidity is no longer funny or cute. Today he asked a middleclass audience to sacrifice their sport utility vehicles. Clearly Edwards forgot the fact that many of these people use SUVs for their professions or to travel with large families. Even with this asinine statement, Edwards still believes he is “a man of the people.”If we outline all of John Edwards’ mishaps throughout his campaign, he should have dropped out months ago. Nevertheless, the liberal media continues to elevate this degenerate. Deep down the MSM want him to succeed and will take steps necessary to reach that end. When was the last time anyone heard the media mention that John McCain, who will probably drop out of the race in the next few months, has the same poll numbers as Edwards (around 11%)?Examining John Edwards’ record, nobody in their right mind would vote for him. The reptilian John Edwards: 1) Lives in one of the largest homes in the Country, yet says he is a
At the Yearly Kos convention, I had the opportunity to ask a question about media consolidation to seven of the eight Presidential candidates present at the forum. My question was:
With only a handful of companies controlling the majority of news and information Americans consume, media consolidation and the lack of viewpoint diversity is threatening our democracy. How do you plan to support equal access to broadcast media?
The question was directed at Senator Dodd, and was then bumped over to Hillary Clinton. Dodd got a huge round of applause by pledging to stand up to corporations such as News Corp. not only as President, but also right now, during his time as a Senator. Clinton’s answer was less inspiring. She talked vaguely about competition and supporting net neutrality, but there were no firm proposals or pledges, only a promise to take a look at legislation in the future. You can see the full exchange here.
That question was not my original submission. In order to try an
I know I’m not the only one who has always gotten a sleazy vibe from former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina. On first glance, he is not without charisma with his youthful good looks and endearing Southern drawl, but one thing seems to be missing from this perfect-on-paper 2008 presidential candidate: sincerity.A disturbing example of this comes from a book written by Robert Shrum, political consultant for the failed 2004 Kerry/Edwards campaign. Shrum recounts the vice presidential selection process, painting a chilling picture of Edwards in his attempts to win over Kerry and become his running mate. Shrum writes that in a meeting between John Kerry and John Edwards, Edwards shared a personal story about clinging to his son’s dead body at his funeral wake, resolving to uphold his son’s morals and change the world, prefacing the story by telling Kerry that he never shared the anecdote with anybody else. The only problem? Edwards had already used this story on John Kerry two
After reviewing the academic prowess of John Kerry and Al Gore, I thought it was impossible to have dumber presidential candidates. Well, John Edwards is working diligently to prove me wrong. John Edwards, while talking about his socialized healthcare plan was asked if his plan was similar to Cuba’s healthcare system. Edwards’ response was simply incredulous.John Edwards responded by saying that he was not familiar with Cuba’s healthcare system. He then asked, "Is it a government-run system?" Amazingly, he justified his statement by saying that he did not see the end of Michael Moore’s movie, “Sicko.” This man just gets more ridiculous every time he opens his mouth. Is Cuba’s healthcare controlled by the government!? Newsflash to John Edwards, who hopes to be the most powerful man in the world, Cuba is a communist country! Fidel Castro is the dictator. There are people fleeing Castro in little rafts to avoid Cuba’s socialism. Cuba has had socialized medicine al

Edwards Invested Over Half His AssetsIn Fortress Investment Group Edwards has made the plight of Katrina victims a recurring theme of his bid for the Democratic nomination. He chose New Orleans to kick off his campaign in December, when he vowed to help poor residents recover from Katrina. In April, he returned to the city to promote his plan to end the "shameful lending practices" of subprime-mortgage firms.Embarrassed presidential hopeful John Edwards promised yesterday to take millions of dollars of his own fortune out of a hedge fund tied to subprime lenders who foreclosed on victims of Hurricane Katrina. The populist candidate - who has denounced such lenders - invested $16 million of his $30 million in assets in Fortress Investment Group. The Wall Street Journal reported that 34 New Orleans homeowners struggling to overcome Katrina's aftermath faced foreclosure suits from subprime-lending units of Fortress.Yesterday, the red-faced Democratic candidate vowed to remove from his por
David Brooks writes how John Edwards is basing his campaign upon his connection to the common man:
I came out to Iowa having read that Edwards had swung left this election campaign. He was going to outflank Clinton and Obama among liberals and then sweep his way to the nomination.
But out here it’s clear that the Edwards campaign is based on the same conviction that organized his last campaign: no one understands regular people the way he does. No one else can get out of a bus in places like Pocahontas, Iowa, and bond with the farmers, nurses and hairstylists the way he can. No one else comes from their ranks the way he does.
The theory of the Edwards campaign is that Obama will fade because of his inexperience, and Democrats in Iowa will be left with a choice about electability. Which of their candidates is going to be able to connect with working-class white voters in Ohio, Virginia, Nevada and Michigan? Ultimately, Iowans won’t make the same mistake they made in 2004. This time
david mizner railed yesterday against a post by Matt Stoller accusing John Edwards of veiled racism. Matt Stoller’s thesis is this:
John Edwards is talking about poverty, but he’s not talking to poor people. He may say that women’s rights are related to economic issues, but Clinton is actually framing her arguments around language women use. Edwards is talking as a college educated white guy to other college educated white guys. It’s the white man’s burden, and while well-meaning, it’s a little racist and annoying. I mean come on. There is no conspiracy to keep white men out of the Presidency.
To which david responds:
Stoller thinks it’s racist to appeal to morality to help the poor. But who said the poor people Edwards wants to help are black or brown? Not Edwards; he frequently points out that most poor people are white and that poverty isn’t a problem unique to cities. It’s Stoller who assumes that poor people are black or b
John Edwards closely trails behind Rudy Giuliani on my list of my hypocritical politicians contending for their party’s nomination. Perhaps the best thing which could be said is that about Edwards is that he did a much smoother job of changing most of his previous views in preparation for a 2008 run than Giuliani did. Edwards succeeded where Giuliani has not largely due to adopting the views of a large segment of the liberal blogosphere. Unfortunately this also suggests that the liberal bloggers who accept Edwards’ new set of beliefs without question are less astute than those on the religious right who, despite all their faults, are smart enough to distrust Rudy Giuliani’s conversion to their point of view.
While Edwards has so far escaped much scrutiny on the changes in his political views, the hypocrisy underlying his attacks on other candidates continues to backfire against him. His initial attempts to attack other Democrats on their positons on Iraq were shot dow
John Edwards seems to be the candidate of the democratic netroots in US for the run for the election of the american presidency.
From Washington Post:
Last month, in a straw poll on the popular liberal blog Daily Kos, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), the front-runner for her party's presidential nomination, won only 9 percent of the vote, lagging far behind former senator John Edwards (N.C.) with 36 percent and Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) with 27 percent. She couldn't make it past 4 percent for most of the year.
Thats interesting. In Sweden people almost only hear about Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama. Even thinking about republicans and democrats, is just these two the newsdesks reports about till 90 percent.
Myself: I listened to John Edwards live when I was in US this spring. He is the candidate for the Trade Unions, and the one who has taken a clear stance about the trade unions rights.
"If Obama were as concerned for the poor as me and had as nice hair, you'd vote for him, right? Yes? Then here's your hug. Careful with the suit and keep that hand off my do."
EDWARDS: I'm going to stay on your question. I promise I'll answer that question. But the first thing I want to say -- and I want to speak for everybody, I believe, on this stage -- anybody who's considering not voting for Senator Obama because he's black or for Senator Clinton because she's a woman, I don't want their vote. I don't want them voting for me.
Following up on his statement in the South Carolina Youtube debate, the Edwards campaign released a list of people whose vote he won't accept. In addition to racists and sexists:
1. People who buy camcorders for their son's graduation knowing that they'll return them a week later.
2. White collar criminals.
3. People who cut off others on the freeway.
4. Regionalists.
5, People who don't take off their irrelevant bumper stickers (nuclear free
Edwards Pushes Wage Issue on the StumpJohn Edwards supports raising the minimum wage... Again?! What is happening here?! We just raised it. Thousands of people are going to go unemployed because the minimum wage was raised, and he wants to raise it again?! Doesn't he get it? What next? Will we see him promise to fire one out of every ten Americans just for fun?! This is horrible.

“And it is why his campaign, regardless of its electoral fortunes, is shaping the Democratic race. Unable to dismiss his proposals as crazy radicalism, the other candidates have to be both bolder and more detailed than they would like.” The Economist provides interesting insight on the effects John Edwards is having on the Democratic primary.

I have always found it humorous how politicians make (lame) comparisons between themselves and other, usually more, famous/successful politicians. John Kerry tried to parlay a chance coincidence of same initials into being the next JFK. Well he was no JFK. Not that I personally think John Kennedy was anything special other than an average politician in the wrong place at the wrong time and history cut him a break in sympathy. And its not just the Democrats exhibiting this sort of ridiculous behavior. Dan Quayle tried making the same comparison and was very publicly called on it by Democrat Senator Lloyd Bentsen during the 88 debates. I actually liked Dan Quayle (I might have been the only one) but thought that he got pretty much what he deserved for trying to make the JFK comparison. In the case of John Edwards attempting to position himself as a latter day RFK it is even more ludicrous. Edwards is a mega rich ambulance chasing lawyer. The closest he gets to the plight of poor Amer
